  • Lots of uhs, but I was freewheeling, off script and excited. Second video, so be kind or else. Look for my third installation coming soon. Hopefully it will include a keeper or two.

It would have been nice to have one view of the front and the actual lens and face of the actual flashlight. Oh well,,

What is the name or brand of the flashlight that you installed in the pole?

Sorry so slow in responding Mitch. I've been dealing with cancer et al. Anyway, I would normally say, any light that's water tight up to a meter since you'll never use these deeper than 18 inches. However, quality still matters, even 6 inches deep. lol. One of the two I bought leaked and I purchased a different, seemingly more rugged option. I've only used them once, since we're now forbidden by the NCFWC to harvest flounder.

Did you try other ways to secure the flashlight into the 1 1/4 inch tube?

      I didn't have to. It's almost a perfect fit.

Be careful with those 18650s, you get what you pay for. Essentially if you seal off an 18650 and it has a thermal catastrophic failure you've created something that goes boom... Make sure they're safe chemistry, they won't get wet, and you're not rapidly discharging them.

A lot of the cheaper brands are from China and the actual specifications might not match up. Possibly why you ordered 5000mahs and got 6000mahs.

Thank you for the heads up. With this design they are merely held in place by the PVC, not enclosed.

how did it work? Did you need to mod it at all?

It worked great! The angle of the light was perfect. The brightness of the LED made the ocean floor look like the surface of the moon. I saw several short flounders but left them alone. Unfortunately, the NC marine fisheries department enacted strict rules and closed or flounder season indefinitely.
