- Autumn is a wonderful time of year to enjoy a coastal walk. Stunning sunrise and so much to see. Wild flowers, fruits, birds and even beach combing. Join me as I talk about the various things I find on the shore. Some wonderful drone footage of the area and then some incredible underwater footage of the undersea world. Followed by a beach fire lobster cookup.

- I hope that everyone is well and healthy and enjoying themselves. I hope that you enjoyed the video and just for fun - Please could you comment on where you’re watching from? 😊👍🏻 We are in Cornwall in the UK. 🇬🇧
Ohio, USA
Milton Keynes & I would give my left testicle to live in Cornwall! Great stuff as always fella x
North Shields (north east )😊
Fox Glacier NZ
Devon uk. good stuff, love your vids. Some of my best days have been chilling with the kids on the beach with a fire. My treasure is usually mackerel or prawns lol. Not skilled or lucky enough for lobster yet, but living in hope haha
I grew up watching sir David Attenborough and Jacques-Yves Cousteau. 30 years later I'm watching Mr. John Locker. 😁
- I grew up watching Sir David. He was who I wanted to be when I was a kid. 😊
@@TheFishLocker
Obviously dreams come true.
Well done mate. 👏
Me too....hope John's career is as long & successful 👍
Really enjoy the video
Nice views of the St Michael’s Mount. We moved down to Cornwall when my wife got the job of manager there. Made friends with a lot of the residents as well as Lord and Lady St Aubyn.
A man that can make animal excrement interesting, whose drone footage is superb, whose knowledge of plants and seaweeds is an education, who takes us underwater and films that amazing world and brings it into our houses, is a man to be admired. His view of Cornwall is the real view of that wonderful county, away from the commercialism. This is an amazing video, nice to see James looking so well. Thanks for a wonderful 45 minutes.
- David, it is my absolute pleasure to share our time with you. And thank you again. I really appreciate it. 😊
I agree
Very polite and behaved kid. Not yelling / running around and letting his dad make the vid.
- James is a very well behaved boy. When he wants to be. Haha 😊
Yes i can remember also Jacques-Yves Cousteau on his ship Calypso , my wife and I sat i silence watching John and afterwards just stunned at the knowledge of this great guy, Thank you sir for the best 44 minutes we have had for a long time .
- It is absolutely my pleasure Clive. We are simply sharing what we know and love doing in our videos. If you feel that any of your friends would enjoy the videos, please share them on. Have a wonderful day and stay safe. 😊💙🦞🌿
Jacques Yves Cousteau was responsible for the invention of the aqua lung -or re-breather. It was developed during the second world war and it was used primarily by divers to attach limpet mines to the bottom of Japanese ships. They used mini- subs so they would be undetected. I read a fascinating true story of one such heroic adventure and adapted it in one of my books.
Not even a minute in and I can tell this will be a classic episode
- I hope you're right. This should have been up at 1800 but I had to re upload because of a mistake.haha.
I second this comment
👍👍👍😜🦄🏴🎣😁🤞✌️
Spending time with your son on the beach will, im sure, make so many memories for him!! Great video mate...the ariel shots were awesome! Keep the vids coming mate, love em. All the best to you and your family.😎👍I'm watching from Surrey, England.
- Thank you Stephen, the time with James like that is just pure joy for me. I love it. Take care mate 😊
Watching from Athens, Greece, but I'm originally from North West England. Your videos are a soothing balm to my homesick soul in times when it's hard to travel internationally. Thanks for everything!
- Where about in the Northwest? Keswick way or Carlisle? I am glad that you find the videos soothing. Take care over there 😊
Fascinating John really enjoyed the information packed video, never feel bored with your content or presentation. Please keep going and look after yourself and the family, I will be taking the weekend off, to show my family the bright lights of Scarborough and hopefully a surprise visit to Whitby and the coast thereabouts to look for shellfish, with the tutoring I have acquired from The Fish Locker.
Love everything you do and hope one day to cross paths and give Captain James a big hug, by the way it's my 60th Birthday on the24th of October and though it should be a celebration, due to my twin brother Anthony dying last December I will not be doing anything to celebrate the day except scattering his ashes around Scarborough where we both loved to be.
- Thank you Nick and good luck on the coast. Best wishes to you and the family and take care. 😊
Sorry for your loss ❤
I am over 60 years and the concept of drones was originally military. I see drones here in major cities and am afraid they interfere. I LOVE seeing what you do John. Thank you and the very best to your dear family.
- Yes Patti, I feel the same. I guess our vides just show how things can be used for completely innocent and well meaning purposes. 😊
I've been hanging around CZcams since it's inception and seen some damn good stuff, but never been moved enough before today to contact a major TV company recommending that they take a look at someone's channel. This guy is knowledgeable, articulate, and humorous. Above all, he has that knack of engaging with his viewers. I don't know what he does for a living, but I know what he should be doing...
@Steve T. My thoughts exactly. I don't think John realises just how good he is.
- Steve. Thank you. Both for the very kind words but also for taking your own time and trying to help us. I have said from the beginning that we are simply sharing what we know and love doing. This is our passion, and in these stressful and difficult times if we may provide even a short positive distraction for people then I feel we owe it to the world. Take care sir and best wishes to you and your family. 😊
If only there was smell-o-vision. The lobster looked delicious. I love how you give your son the option to try different seafoods. He will grow into new tastes at some point, especially because he wasn’t forced to eat fish now. What an amazing childhood he is experiencing, memories for a lifetime. Good job!
- Thank you JoAnn. We are simply trying to do our best for our little guy. 😊
The drone footage is amazing ! 👍🏻
- Thank you. 😊
The sunrise was exquisite it so makes you feel good to be alive 🌞 You have such beautiful coastlines and countryside in Cornwall and your appreciation and enthusiasm for its beauty is a wonderful thing to behold. Your videos just keep getting better and better John. I love James infectious laugh too he is such a sweetie 😙 please keep doing what you are doing you make so many people happy and grateful for your awesome videos. 🐙💙🎣🍃🌿
- Thank you Roxie, it truly is a wonderful place - and I hope my videos can go some way to keeping it so. James is just the star of the show isn't he. He makes us so proud. 😊 Take care and have a wonderful day.
agree he is a cute baby👦 😍😀😊☺😊
When you and James were saying the spongebob song, that was so cute but it’s so beautiful underwater and so was that lobster, thanks for sharing with us mate, great video!
- He is just my absolute joy. 😊💙
Not long been home from a days fishing on a Kent lake, not a single bite! Now having watched the video I’ve learnt about badger poo, the shape of a Ravens beak, seams plus a whole host of other natural wonders, feeling much better now John!
- Thats one of the things about my videos mate. You never know what you might learn. haha.
The drone is a fantastic thing. I am very interested in the same things as you, flora and fauna, all my life. Thanks always.
- I have often found that people who share the same passions tend to gravitate towards each other. 😊
This is just terrific stuff Mr Locker . . . easy to forget what mother nature can give to us in these difficult times - wonderful
- We are so fortunate, we just need to remember where to look. 😊
Mr &Mrs Fish Locker you have got to be the coolest parents ever.
We have a teenage girl who would disagree. 🤣
Love the drone footage! You've inspired my parents and I to go visit the beach more, we're in California and right off our coast is the biggest kelp forest in the world so there's always lots of fun things washed up
- I have watched those kelp forests in documentaries before. The sea otters and wildlife are so wonderful. You are very lucky. 😊
"I'm not sure the toy shop takes sea treasure, but we'll see..." LOL
- You don’t know until you ask. 😊👍🏻
In a proper world they should!.
As always , filled with knowledge and beauty. Quite addicted
- I am glad to hear you're enjoying the videos. 😊
Watching in Hamburg! When I was a kid we would holiday every year in Cornwall or Devon. This is where people from Yorkshire are wrong, the South West is God’s country.
About forty years ago we used to travel to Padstow for May Day, and the first thing we would do is go down to the rocks and collect mussels and anything else that was edible.
Fantastic place!
- Yorkshire is gods country. Cornwall is his playground. 😊 Take care sir and have a great evening.
The Fish Locker Yeah you are right, god with a small “g”, whose earthly name was Jeff Boycott.
Germany from Scotland by the sea. Like below cant get home to see my family and yes soothes my soul in these crazy times even when I could get home. Inspiring me to change it all when I can I get home for good
- You are not the first person to tell me this Sparky. I am so very glad that our videos may inspire people to a positive mindset and to take steps towards their own happiness. Take care sir. 😊
I, for one, love watching and learning about the region outside of the literal dive, fishing, foraging, etc. parts, which I also love, dont get me wrong. Hearing about the local flora and fauna, even though I live a world away, is super interesting and much appreciated. And the safety reminders are a bland aspect that I'm glad you still remind us of. Drone shots are neat and the fun editing/transitions are nice but love the channel because of the content, especially with you and the family!
- Thank you. That is really nice to hear. Take care and good health to you and your family. 😊
Don't peel any apples with that leatherman John! lol
- Haha. Or cut my bacon sandwiches. 😊
Beautiful drone shots! Coastal England is truly beautiful.
- Thank you very much. It is a wonderful place isn't it. 😁
You never think of the shores of Britain being so colourful I always thought it was just places with hot weather had beautiful waters ty for sharing this beauty with me xxx
People would be amazed at what the U.K. has to offer. I hope our videos showcase that. 😊💙
I am loving seeing a young'un growing up with such a powerful link to the natural world. Long may he enjoy it , and hopefully come to love it and appreciate more and more, just as his dad obviously has. I have no doubt he will remember his time out with you both . .
Bloody Wonderful .
- I have honestly been waiting since before our son was born to be able to share these things with him. It is so wonderful to watch him explore and learn and enjoy the natural world. 😊💙
You live a healthy life in an area thats full of natural beauty and when I watch one of your vlogs it just takes you there, great to see James out with you he really likes it,the lobster looked delicious as usual, anyway thanks John stay well.🦞👍🏻
- It is my pleasure to take you with me Andreas. Take care and have a great day. 😊
Best educational sea life foraging fishing living on the coast that there is on youtube.
Thank you very much James. I am glad that you think so. 😊
I can’t tell u enough how much it warms my heart to see the love in ur sons eyes for you. I adore ur family and ur channel.
I have been waiting since before he was born to do these things with him. 😊

The Drone footage was great..
Really shows why you need to get to the beach
First thing in the morning to see it at it's best..
(We're from tyneside..)
- Most things in nature are at their best at that time of day. 😊
Watching you eat that lobster made me want to go back to Maine
All I can say is that you looked to be one happy human doing what is close to your heart with your sweet little boy by your side...
I truly was. I have been waiting since before our son was born to teach him these things. 😊
Such an amazing place to live. What a beautiful morning. Thanks for sharing. From Orlando Florida.
- It is our pleasure Mike. Best wishes to you and your family and take care mate. 😊
Great walk, brilliant dive. Do you ever eat the juices from the head?
The best part of today's blog was James's energy and laughter... it brought me back to when I was his age and I would be out with my dad fishing, digging for clams and catching crab.
Thanks again for another great trip...
- Haha. James is just pure joy isn't he. Even just to see him playing in the background. He just makes my heart swell. Take care my friend. 😊
oh man that stone work is amazing!!! Almost as perfect as the sunrise :D
- It is just beautiful isn't it. They really don't make things like that any more do they. Its sad.
What a beautiful sunrise. The Lord had his paint brush out that's for sure!
❤
There is so much beauty to be seen out on the shore isn't there. 😊
I appreciated everything about this one! The plant species, the geology and all of it!
I am glad that you enjoyed the video. 😊👍🏻
Love your channel man. Beautiful where you live.
- Thank you very much mate. Glad you’re enjoying the content. 😊👍🏻
Very nice
- Thank you. 😊
It's beautiful seeing you getting to bond and spend time with your son. James has such a wonderful personality thanks to his incredible parents. Love these videos! I never get tired of learning from you.
- He is such a character, he makes us so very proud. 😊
Listening to you and James sing the opening verses to sponge Bob Square pants has made my day thank you for another brilliant video for me and thousands of other people to sit back a watch .
I am glad you enjoyed joining us. 😊🦞
Wow, that 44 minutes went so fast. Totally enthralling all the way through. The drone footage and beautiful piano music was so emotional I found myself welling up a bit one time. The stone walls at the beginning were gorgeous. Real craftsman job. Lovely to see James as always. I imagine all your viewers feel rather paternal/maternal towards him. When you peered over the cliff and asked "How do I get down there?" I had an answer. Tha needs a bigger drohhhn lad. Buckle on and fly tha'sen down. I've been watching the subscriber tally. Seems to be creeping up steadily at about 1000 per week. This time next year it'll be half a million I'm betting. Also loving to see such support for the channel from all over the world. Englishman living in Aberdeenshire now. Living the outdoor live vicariously through your wonderful videos.
- I am so glad that the soundtrack went with the footage. It is something I am still learning and experimenting with. I do take great visual pleasure from good engineering/architecture. The subscribers are what makes this channel what it is. So many people showing that although there is distance between us a passion connects us - and I think that is wonderful. 😊 Take care David and have a great day.
Sloe berries are used to make sloe gin. Hi from the mountains of Virginia, USA.
- Yes they are. We tried that when we were younger. 😊
I've got 2 litres of sloe gin on the cook right now !
@@kevinfletcher7471 After my comment earlier I had to have a nip or two of gin myself!
And I am from the glorious mountains of West Virginia! ☺️
I've been watching your channel on and off for a few months now. You have such a passion for what you do, and I've learned so much about some coastal life from watching your channel. Whenever I have a down day I just have to turn on your videos and it immediately puts a smile on my face, so thank you for what you do.
- That Becki, is exactly what we want to hear. I have always said from the beginning that if our videos help 1 person, then they have been worth making. 😊 It is my pleasure to share our videos and passions with you. Take care and have a wonderful day.
James is a good boy laughing at dads jokes! 🤣
That is because my jokes are hilarious!!! 🤣
Ooo first comment! Love the vids, reminds me of fishing with my dad growing up on the British Columbia coast. Thanks for the educational and enjoyable vids!
- Nearly. Im glad you enjoy the videos and they remind you of a happy time. Take care Jay and stay safe. 😊
We call the “Pigface” plant “Ice plant” in the states (California at least)! 😊🧊🌱 Love your videos! 🐟
- Hi Charlotte, that is really interesting. One of our subs from NZ contacted to say they call it the same thing. 😊
i always love the cookout sessions with all the fish locker gang
- We are in a position now where we very rarely have the whole gang together because of work or school sadly.
im falling more and more in love with his videos. hes getting soo good at editing with the soundtrack and videographing with the drone. its amazinggg
- It is all a learning experience. I am glad you can join me on the journey. 😊
I'm just here waiting to see the fish locker. 👀😂🤷♂️
- Haha. 😊
There was also the famous story of the wreck of the Iron Crown. painted by a well known American artist Homer Winslow a recluse who resided in Cullercoats, He turned up in a horse drawn cab. The little man with a waxed moustache witnessed and painted the scene in 1881. The stricken vessel ran aground just past the the Priory at Tynemouth. Hundreds of villagers came to the scene as fishermen from North Shields or (Sheils) as it was better known which meant (hut) launched the life boat. The huge swells broke off the mast of the Iron Crown and it crashed to the deck as the men on board hung on to its rigging. The life boat was rowed out and the waves threatened to swamp the boat and the ship, sending them both crashing against the rocks. Captain Carl Kopp stayed on board with some of his crewmen as twenty men were rescued. When the men were safely in the lifeboat they rowed ashore. The lifeboat set out again and Captain Kopp and his crewmen came ashore unharmed. It was a daring rescue. Homer Winslow captured the scene in water colour and it became one of his most famous works.
- And Grace Darling not far up the coast.
Come for the scenery, stay for the poop facts! Always informative and entertaining John.
Haha. So long as you're finding things interesting. 😉
Good Dad, happy Son. Well done.
- We are fortunate that our little man is always happy. No matter what he is doing. 😊💙

- Haha. Its all interesting information to the right people Jan. A few people have commented on the pig face - interesting isn't it. Have a wonderful day and stay safe 😊
John this is one of my most favourite places for an early morning high tide swim, after Swanpool or Gilly. To walk down the valley from Roseudgeon, fabulous. The waters crystal clear and clean. Beautiful thanks for posting. 👍
- It is a wonderful place isn't it. Take care Dorald. 😊
How on earth do you have the time to do everything you do?... You must live in some kind of time warp!!
Thanks for another sweet respite from Covid, Brexit and the general horror of everyday life. 😋
- Just good time management mate. But then again I was up until 01:00 editing this video and have spent around 6 hours on it today. haha. Take care and keep your chin up. This, like all things, will pass. 😊
@@TheFishLocker Well, all that time hasn't gone to waste, and is much appreciated.
Hi John. I grew up in the North East in the 70’s now living in the US. Ex Navy. Your posts remind me of leave weekends in Cornwall. Recently discovered your channel. Enjoying every post! A reminder of home and what I miss. Love the moments with your family. You are one of the most authentic and original contributors. Brilliant and varied content. Congratulations. More of the same please! All the best.
Thank you very much David, I am simply trying to share what I know and love. Nothing special just simple and honest content. Stay safe bud and take care. 😉👍🏻
You too John. If you make a trip to Boston or fancy some days fishing around the Cape please get in touch. I’m not a fisherman but I have mates with boats! Happy to put the family up. Look after yourself. Best to the family. David and Lia.
It's amazing that your son will have these videos to look back on. And little details like sea glass will mean so much. Treasure!
- Being able to spend time with James like this is worth more than anything to me.😊
You're the most wonderful, precious man, may the Lord God bless you.

That drone and sunrise moment is spot on😍
- Stunning wasn't it. 👍
Father and son time in priceless! The Raven have a diamond tail seen in flight.
A peaceful watching.
- Take care Grahame 😊
Yet another totally awesome and absorbing video John, some great sea life there. your knowledge from scat poop to berries to fauna and everything green to what flies in the sky and what swims in the sea is really inspirational to your viewers and your little boy, he is so lucky to have such a great Dad like you, you bring so much interest and a great insight into what so many perhaps overlook and miss on a coastal walk. thanks for sharing. I'm totally envious also at how many lobster and crab meals you also cook up on the beach and share with us all...cheers John x
- Thank you Vinny, I am glad that you enjoyed it. 😊 I do love spending my time with James like this, I have been waiting since before he was born to teach him these things. Take care and have a wonderful weekend. 😊
@The Fish Locker I found it kind of funny that when ever there was a large edible crab, it seemed to always have a prawn bodyguard. almost as if they were somehow employed by the crabs 😄
I have thought that too. 😊
bravo john.with the droning and the diving footage in your videos and your love of the countryside coupled with your fishing and very descriptive way you let us know about all the fauna and sea creatures youve made your channel stand out miles ahead of the competition.i also love how you include your family into them as well.i forsee great things happening for you.great channel mate.

I love to watch you go down a beach and catch something to eat, either raw or cooked, because it reminds of when I used to do in my home country of Chile, where we eat most of what comes of the ocean, and usually raw, or barely cooked, like you do it. Thanks for sharing your adventures, they fill me with joy and hope I'll see the sea soon again. Cheers.

Brilliant video John pure escapism ,Nice start to the day ,inspired me to go for a beach walk !Thanks...

Wow, your knowledge amazes me. Thank you and your family for giving an aging woman something so very interesting to see. I've been studying shore marine life for over 50 years, it's what keeps me young. I know one area where I can usually find upwards of 40 Green Snakelock Anemones on the south Ayrshire coast.
I have a couple of little hidden gems like that on the coast around here. I have a rock face that is roughly 3ft square of solid Dahlia anemones. Magical. 😊
Such a great video to chill from online classes ❤️❤️ Thanks mr fishlocker🙌🏼
