Taken from the Delaware Valley Historic Radio Club's Jan 2020 meeting. Longtime club member Lewie Newhard discusses the process of repairing a typical All-American Five table radio.
I really enjoyed the informative two part series AA5 radio circuit theory. The knowledge presented is worthy of recognition. Hats off to the presenter !
I had the Progressive Radio Edu-kit, and it used a "curtain-burner cord to drop mains voltage down to something that was usable for the 1-3 fillaments.
Thank you for sharing the astounding knowledge that you have collected over the years. You can tell that you have been inside thousands of these sets. I love it! I was born to tune things. ❤️❤️❤️
I integrate in my shop High Tech and vintage tech test equipment. From a Simpson 260 to a Fluke DVM. A simple scope is a nice addition for reading AC and DC voltages at a glance. Even the most basic tube checker of the emission type is better than none at all.
I think you said start at the Power Supply when diagnosing a Radio, which makes sense. I heard a man, now Deceased, say "Start at the Speaker & work backwards because it is easier when Diagnosing. What is your take on that please? I "assume" he knew what he was talking about because he claimed to have worked in his Father's Radio Repair Shop at a very young age beginning in the 1940s, later to be followed by Repairing TVs.
Very good presentation , Lewie talked me into getting a simpson test meter model 260, How about Mr. Lewie putting up a video on all the tips and usage of this meter, the manual doesnt cover? ..... Thank You, Ken 73 W0KDL
I enjoy these videos on Radio and basic electronics. However, perhaps the speakers might want to take some non credit public speaking courses at a local community college. Simple Demos are a good idea too. Keep up the good work guys. I’ll be tuning frequently.
@@Chungustav RCA Receiving Tube Manual RC-17. The is holding the First Edition. It can be a little pricey. There are subsequent editions that are easily found. Thanks

This was a great two part series and some great tips and knowledge from a professional technician.

Thank you, Jarret! Great video! Lewie reminds me of one of the guys that worked at my local electronics supply place! I hope Lewie's doing well!
Very good job!

So what is the book on triodes and others, that you can not do without? Thanks great video!
i would love to see some actual application of some radios on a bench using all the equipment shown here. solder, measurements, re wiring etc.

Tell me something I don’t know. The IF cans are still a mystery after all these years.
Is that a Simpson 260 meter he is talking about ?
He held up a book. He implied that we should all have a copy of it. It was blurry and out of focus. Any idea of what the title of the book might be ?
RCA Tube manual. Look at Jarrtet's reply below..
Any chance that I could get a copy of the lecture notes, really useful material.
What do you do with a Simpson with a 15 volt battery. I cant find one
Is the capacitor/resistor chart referred to at 43:45 in the video available for download or purchase?

Thanks for watching!

How would you tune a can out of circuit? Would not that be easier an safer?
Is this at a ham radio club meeting somewhere?
How can we get a hold of the guy selling tubes?
Tubes can be purchased in person at our twice yearly radio swap meets in Kutztown, PA. Sorry, no internet sales. Thanks!
👍
.Part 1 was better. P2 has some good folksy advice but you're not going diredtly into radio repair with this video.
