Elsa mentioned in beginning of video that people were commenting on how many items they’ve acquired. She goes on to explain all the equipment it takes to build a house and that they’re things are not hid away in closets like most peoples.
I usually read all of the comments as I find them as much fun/interesting as the video.

Ya'll are doing AMAZING with with everything youve accomplished since getting your land. Please ignore the keyboard nasties. Those people have nothing better to do than tell other ppl what they're doing wrong but i bet they've never done anything like you're doing. Ya'll built your house without any designer or architect. Very few ppl get out there and build their own home brick by brick. Hand hune wood beams and window lentil beams all created by yourself. Not very many can or will put in the time and work it takes to do what yall created. Keep up the awesome work ya'll!!!!!

I work at an RV dealership and whenever we get these super tiny teardrop trailers we always wonder “who buys these?” And then I remember people like Elsa and Barron exist and seek them out 😂 and he’s not exaggerating about the 100k overland vs car camping difference! We have a couple overland vehicles that cost near $600k!

There's a couple in Alaska - its Simple (or Simply?) Alaska - and Ariel grows a huge garden with a very small growing season.
She has also put up what she calls a high tower, which she uses to grow her tomatoes and other frost adverse plants.
They have an electrified fence (solar) all around it to keep out moose and other ungulates.
You can just pull up their garden videos. They can everything and it's amazing.
I'm not sure everything will work there, but I think a lot will.
Fy Nyth is another content creator who grows an amazing garden very high up in the mountains of Wyoming.
She's had issues with moles and other pests and has found ways to come out ahead.
LoL - her name happens to be Ariel, too.
I've been watching them for years and just noticed it.

Yeah, you really can't avoid having a bunch of stuff if you want to build and maintain a homestead. A big part of self-sufficiency is having the tools and resources to maintain what you have...and also having that random supply or accessory stored away that you will probably need in the future and therefore avoid a trip to town ;) Seasons of life change. It certainly has for my wife and I after we started having kids and bought a house. We do still regularly go through purges of getting rid of stuff that is not useful.

My wife and I recently moved to a senior living facility and had to downsize. It was unbelievable how many things we had to get rid of for the move. You really learn how much stuff you have when you move.

there is a screw top thing you can fit to a 5 gal bucket. people use them for storing dog food, flour, etc. to keep out mice and moisture. you might drill some holes in your snake bucket if you get a screw on lid.

Elsa - I live in the high desert of Arizona and have gardened for over 30 years. Out of all the various compost methods I have found that the bokashi method works the best. Really simple method. Big love and cheers to you and Baron. We loved his book.

You are so right. Gardening is such a learning curve. Im learning that this year to. I planted cucumbers in pots. They never grew at all. But I also planted green peppers in pots. And they are growing like crazy. Its a mystery for sure.

When I did my head unit I got these little solder sleeves that you slip over the wires and then use a heat gun to melt them all together. The solder melts and the sleeve shrinks and it’s all good. So much easier than traditional soldering.

I hope you don’t put much weight on any judgement from people. You’re in the process of building your home and homestead and you will be more self sustaining in the end. You need tools, supplies etc to accomplish projects and honestly to accomplish life! Love those little campers!! They were bringing in truck loads of them to the state where I live this spring!! Unfortunately my current vehicle isn’t designed to pull trailers. I am going to check and see if I can do a kayak trailer?? They say you have to have a Wilderness Crosstrek to have enough power to pull a trailer. I am very thankful for my X Mode!! It gets me unstuck from snow covered ice!! No tow truck needed!!♥️♥️♥️

If your going to run the generator with battery bank, why not just bring the generator only and keep the bank topped off for the house? Run the pump off the generator only, saves some time if having to load and carry an extra item. Unless you have a reason for running the pump off the bank. 👍
The generator doesn’t provide consistent enough power to get the water all the way up the hill.

Add some natural fertilizer and compost to your buckets every spring. By repeatedly planting in the same pot/dirt the food is depleted. Refresh and you’ll see a big difference. Keep it up
You could look into Back to Eden, basically No-Dig Gardening using composted bark as a mulch. Try adding spent coffee ground to your compost, lots if vids on the Tube.

I think people struggle with change and sometimes they can be a bit judgmental towards others about that. They want people to stay the same, but it's because they aren't really thinking too deeply about how our needs ebb and flow as we get older. You had a goal to build a house and live off grid and you all are doing that. You weren't going to live in the scamp forever and I think some people just have difficulty understanding that. I hope you will be able to enjoy your new home despite any judgement coming your way. Social media is rough and it's way too easy for people to just leave a negative comment with little regard as to how it affects those it targets.

The two of you have so many admirers. There is no need for you to take to heart criticisms that are going to come your way because that negativity comes with being open and honest. You have never, to my knowledge , encouraged others to live your life style exactly as you do it. What I believe you do is to show others that it is possible to have a dream. That hard work along with personal sacrifice can make what seems to be unobtainable , yours. Many have a dream of living free, but have not fully grasped that freedom from a regular 9 to 5 job , comes at a substantial personal cost. Maybe the critics will decide to focus on their own challenges with a renewed enthusiasm. I hope so.

If by chance you start getting scorpions in your house, I just seen a foundation paint that they cannot crawl up so it keeps them out. “Slick Barrier” I think it’s called.
We don’t have scorpions in our area thank GOODNESS!!
We lived in Elko, NV when we started having kids.
It was evening and I was picking up after I had gotten the kids to sleep and I accidentally tipped over the milk box container I was using to hold their toys.
Out of the corner of my eye - after things had settled - I saw something move.
An almost see-through scorpion was hiding in the bottom of the toy box.
I almost had a heart attack!
My husband helped my move all the furniture, take off any cushions, and vacuum like crazy people for several hours.
This became a weekly activity along with doing the girl's room more often.
Luckily, we were still young and lived in a 2 bedroom, single wide and hadn't moved into a larger home yet.
Same house a few months later: I'm laying on the couch reading with my head resting on my husband's leg while he watches TV - my glasses off and I'll tell you now, I'm legally blind without my glasses on.
I look up - no reason - and I see this black dot on my goldish colored curtains.
I don't think anything of it, but look up again and decide to put on my glasses to see what's gotten on my curtains.
Yeah...
I screamed.
It's a fairly huge black widow 🕷 about a foot away from Kyle's arm.
He jumped and I know I'm lucky he didn't hit it or knock it off, but thankfully he just dumped me off of his lap and stood up.
He didn't scream, but he wasn't happy and got a plastic container with a lid and put it in the freezer to humanely euthanize it.
This was AFTER we started our crazy vacuuming campaign for scorpions!

Also wanted to mention something I seen. Was watching an off grider who lived in an area like yours who built a greenhouse onto their home. They dug 6’ down on the south side of their home and it was warm enough & the ceiling was high enough in that greenhouse to grow fruit trees!

It is using free stuff around you for pesticides and fertilizers. JADAM natural farming is a great resource and there are tons of stuff on CZcams. I stopped eating vegetables and plants after I became ill from eating a lot of vegetables. Now there are 80% animal products in my fridge. At almost 70 years old, I feel so much better, am pill-free and have no health problems anymore. I have my own chickens in the garden
The carnivore diet seems to do wonders for some people!!

I grow currants, grapes, blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries. We make our own compost and have and above ground garden and we use pots for our tomatoes, mustard greens, herbs zucchini, eggplant and cucumbers, yellow squash
