  • Bhagat Singh was a charismatic revolutionary who played a key role in the independence of South Asia from British colonial rule. In this short lecture, delivered at the Lahore High Court, Dr. Taimur Rahman reads from some of Bhagat Singh's writings to explain what he stood for and why he sacrificed his life.

    I'm from Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, Delhi University. Today College is organising Shaheedi Diwas 2023 and the chief guest is Rakesh Sinha. He is a RSS ideologue, supports right wing politics and was nominated to Rajya Sabha(Upper house of our Parliament). He would be lecturing on Shaheed Bhagat Singh and he himself is anti-socialist. Even he demanded the word Socialist to be removed from our Preamble. On the other hand, Bhagat Singh was an outright socialist, died reading Lenin and wrote a lot on communalism. I mean Astonishing

    Bhagat singh fought against British rule and laid his life in the struggle for freedom, while the RSS never took part in the freedom movement. It cooperated with the foreign rule and through its agenda of dividing people on communal lines helped the British rulers in weakening the freedom struggle. When people ask, what RSS was doing during the British rule, they try to defend that it was doing social service and organising and awakening Hindus. Yes, they were really organizing Hindus. But for what? The RSS was organizing and instigating Hindus against Muslims, and creating a divide, and thus helping the British rulers, who were working on the theme “Divide and Rule”.

    Any man who stands for progress has to criticize, disbelieve and challenge every item of the old faith. Item by item he has to reason out every nook and corner of the prevailing faith. If after considerable reasoning one is led to believe in any theory or philosophy, his faith is welcomed. His reasoning can be mistaken, wrong, misled and sometimes fallacious. But he is liable to correction because reason is the guiding star of his life. But mere faith and blind faith is dangerous: it dulls the brain, and makes a man reactionary. - Shaheed Bhagat Singh
    Gandhi Ji's inability to defend Bhagat Singh would always be a blot in his independence movement struggle. The post independence historians of India who were predominantly Marxist had done great disservice to this nation by writing history in a manner that independence was achieved only through the Ahimsa movement of Gandhi and not through the revolutionary movements of Bhagat Singh, Subhash Chandra Bose, Chandrashekhar Azad, Surya Sen, Jatin das etc. British left india only after the INA ratings mutiny after world war 2, Gandhi Ji's ahimsa struggle had an influence but not as much that it would have compelled the British to leave India.

He could've contributed in so many other ways but wasted his precious life for some imaginary revolution that never happened. I'm not a fan of Gandhi but he was smart and used peace as a weapon to fight the colonisers because he knew no amount of weapons he can amass to fight the might of the British empire. @Bharat mata ka Pati Punjabis are 75 years too late for nationhood. Separation doesn't solve anything look at Pakistan, India and Bangladesh today. After a million civilian deaths and ethnoreligious cleansing on both sides of Punjab, there's no way the two wings of Punjab can unite. Sikhs were offered to stay in Pakistan but they rejected and migrated to India. Now whatever is happening to them is India's internal problem and we have nothing to do with it.
      Declaring all pathan terrorists is stupid as the Punjabi military establishment trained them to fight the soviet union on behalf of the USA. Whoever is involved in terrorist activities should be strictly dealt with no matter what their ethnic background is. People in Karachi and kpk are suffering the most from terrorism as compared to cities in Punjab. Punjab is keeping the country together and it should stay that way by taking other provinces on board and solving their genuine grievances. We've invested everything in Pakistan not Khalistan. If Sikhs want independence good luck to them.

Despite Muslims being majority in Punjab, Sikhs don't consider Muslims Punjabi as they believe only Sikhs have a monopoly over Punjab and Punjabi so your premise of Punjabi nationalism doesn't exist in reality. If despite being a majority in Punjab you want to live as a 3rd class citizen in Khalsa Raj that's your choice then you should move to Khalistan. The majority of Muslim Punjabi are happy to be in a Muslim-majority province of west Punjab; the biggest province of Pakistan.

      @@bharatmatakapati7071 so let me get this straight. You have put a video out where you went from nationalism to religion with no logical connection and used tha to address a respected freedom fighter so did batameezi and when someone pointed it out you doubled down with more illogical things and badtameezi. 😂 got it.

    Ahimsa-murti Mahatma Bhagat Singh was a genius. Only a genius can become an atheist at that age and period of history. Apart from that, there are evidence that he was not hanged. He was shifted to London day overnight, and a chopped body of an unknown man was burnt to show people as proof of punishment to Bhagat Singh. Bhagat Singh was kept in London jail and was tortured for years till he died.

      There was a man named Dalip Singh Allahabadi, who used to work as a gardener in Anand Bhavan, Jawaharlal Nehru's house, who later become first PM of India. Dalip was an Intelligence Bureau Agent of British-India and their loyalist. The book Some Hidden Facts: Martyrdom of Shaheed Bhagat Singh written by Kulwant Singh Kooner, the grandson of this man, quoting from the notes written by Dalip Singh Allahabadi, claims that
      .
      1)Bhagat Singh was murdered under "Operation Trojan Horse". And he was not killed by hanging, but by gunshot.
      .
      2) The family members of Saunders had bargained Bhagat Singh's life with Lord Irwin. Under the agreement, the Governor General had given permission to Saunders' family that they could shoot Bhagat Singh ji with their own hands.
      .
      Actually, the Saunders family was a very rich and influential family of Britain. And they were ready to pay a very heavy price to the British authorities to take their revenge. There is a strong possibility that his and the British officials' intention was to keep him alive, so that Bhagat Singh could be tortured for years.
      So they mutilated the dead body of another prisoner to make it appear that it was the dead body of Bhagat Singh ji, and the next day it was reported to the paid media that Bhagat Singh ji had been hanged.
      ====
      .
      {Note: After the alleged hanging, the jail personnel made a big hole in the back wall of the jail and from there they took the body in a police van.
      The group of people chased them for about 20 km, and when the group reached there, the jail staff were trying to burn the body parts taken out of the sack by pouring kerosene on them. In fact, the jail personnel escaped from there.
      The pieces of the dead body that people saw there did not have 'face' and 'torso' etc. There were only some half-burnt pieces of arms and legs.}
