- 10 years ago Texas Parks and Wildlife sank a 7000-ton ship 17 nautical miles off the coast of South Padre Island to create an artificial reef on the barren sandy bottom of the Gulf of Mexico. It has become a haven for marine life, anglers and divers.
I say we head straight for round two. I can't shake my absolute fascination with scuba diving.
canadian here, just wanted to say this is cool as hell
At least she's got a new life that's doing great for the environment and for people's enjoyment.
As a Texan, THANK YOU!!
The group photo on the Clipper was my prep cadet class. I have that photo. I was onboard her for 4 summers. 87-90
She should be down there for at least 100yrs or more.
Great show, I’m gonna try to get to padre to see her.
they messed up its sinking. it was supposed to sit upright on the bottom, but it rolled over
Don't think the sea life will care much, just grateful
RIP TEXAS CLIPPER
It's a shame the Tex Clipper rolled.
Question; What are countries like Cuba and Mexico doing to contribute to a healthier Gulf of Mexico??
How can you spend 10 years planning and it goes all wrong right at the start?
redsammy...They forgot water won't flow uphill. The devil's in the details!
All involved should spend the rest of their lives in prison for the commercial fishing gear this will destroy
Now there's Space X too lol
And anglers? Doesn't that negate its primary purpose of a wildlife sanctuary? Just another fishin' hole? Wouldn't divers want to see all the wildlife?
Sure messed that up. You had 1 job......
And the Texas A&M Maritime Academy wants the ship back...
TAMMA will be getting a $300 million training ship by 2025. The bill to build new training ships for the US maritime academies was passed a few months ago
@@cats400keel was just laid
Why not get a big crane and roll it over
Why not put another one on top?
@@mr.hansholmes2367 why not just fill it with ping pong balls
It is not a "wreck"
Everyone involved should be sued for littering.
