Great vid. Looking forward to getting my Wilkinson trem
Awesome Scott! Thank you.
Trev Wilkinson designed the trem. He also makes damn good pickups for price. It's not a "Wilkinson Trem by Music Lily". Music Lily simply sells it.
Thanks~ Great video~
is this pickup same size with yamaha pac 012 bridge
can I use it on my jackson js11?
how much iss the bridge?
Hi, this tuners have play when you turn them? I want to replace ones from a Harley Benton, but if this do the same I dont see the point. Thank you in advance
Musiclily has better locking tuners than the ones I used here. I would not recommend these ones i used here.
Can you take a guess at what the block is made from? I'm looking for a new trem system for my 96 YN Chinese Strat and struggling to find a direct replacement. This looks good for the price but i dont want another block made from pig iron haha
Trem looks great. Video tip, balance the volume of your voice and the music. Had the volume up in the office so I could hear you and out of nowhere the music started blaring.
I appreciate the tip. This was early on and I like to think I've got the mix down better. I think I had the amp turned up too loud as well.
I have a 2020 squire cyclone and have to get a precision ruler to measure for a new bridge. It's a vintage strat style bridge but I can't find any info about what will fit. My mim and other squier strat have different sizes. Wilkinson is what I've been looking at but they have different sizes.
It's very likely that it is a 52.5mm bridge. Measure from the center to center of your E saddles. Once you've determined that, you'll need to know how thick the body is, so you can make sure the block of the tremolo won't stick out the back of the body.
@@Guitarnivore Well I measured it and being a Squier has made it a headache. It's 52.5mm but the other dimensions are off because it's an import. I would have to redrill to fit a fender bridge and I can't find anything online that has the exact measurements for the body screws. I think I'm going to order the Wilkinson with a steel block and see if I can use the block from it.
@@Xxmeca421xX The screw spacing should be the same as the string spacing -- 52.5 mm from center to center of the outside screws. I'm looking at it on Musicians Friend and the strings pass right through the center of each screw. String spacing and screw spacing is the same. As far as the rest of the bridge plate goes, they're all the same size on 6 screw plates. Seeing that the bridges on the Paranormals are likely the same as the Classic Vibes, the Wilkinson block will fit, but you will notice that the string holes won't align perfectly with the plate, but will still be fine. Here is a brass block option to bolt to the stock bridge. If you're looking to upgrade the saddles, Guyker sells some nice Stainless Steel 10.6mm saddles for about $15, but this brass block should fit your bridge. www.amazon.com/Musiclily-10-5mm-Tremolo-Squier-Electric/dp/B08LD3177W/ref=sr_1_26_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=wilkinson+strat+bridge+short+block&qid=1611685273&sr=8-26-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyTkw0Vk9YRlBYMklNJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNzM3MDk5MVBGN05ON004TDNBNCZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwMjUzMDU4TkVERklWUEpMUkxPJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfbXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==
Does anyone know if the plastic piece on the tremolo bar unscrews like a fender one?
It doesn't. You just push your bar in there and on the underside is a grub screw to adjust the tightness. Not my favorite design.
Oh wait. You're talking about the bar. Sorry. I don't remember, but I don't think it does.
Which Wilkinson Bridge compares to the Callaham Vintage/Narrow? Meaning it has Vintage Fender 2-7/32 MOUNTING SCREW spacing ----BUT Modern or Narrow 2-1/16 STRING spacing. Help! Can't afford Callaham! Their prices are INSANE.
I found it.... Wilkinson part no. MX1797CRFBA at Musiclily.... If anyone else needs one -And or- Amazon... Wilkinson Deluxe 52.5mm (2-1/16 inch) Full Block ST Guitar Tremolo Bridge Pop-In Arm Six Screws for American Vintage Narrow Spacing Strat
What dimensions were the nut that you replaced?
It's been over two years since I replaced that nut and I can't remember the exact dimensions, but it was a Graphtech PT-5000 Tusq nut. They're all going to be a bit oversized, but what is important is your string spacing from E to E. Everything else you can kind of file or sand down to the appropriate height.
Ok, my review on this tremolo so far. The stem of the tremolo arm that go's into the block is not long enough and it will hit the volume knob of my Strat (like you said). Putting something into the receiving trem block hole in order to raise the bar a little to cure this issue is not an option as for some reason the grub screw doesn't wan't to clamp the arm enough anymore. I should mention that I bought the optional longer sustain block (40 mm long) but it was impossible to remove the shorter original block from the tremolo base plate because the hex machine screws are extremely tightened by the factory and now ALL 3 screws heads are totally damaged (these screws are very soft material). Tomorrow I planning to visit a machine shop here and I hope they can extract these screws so I can swap the short block for the longer as the tremolo springs rub against the trem cavity at this moment when I dump the tremolo with the arm. To be continued.
See my response on video, fix was silly easy for the arm. You made a bad move with bigger block, I had to file some wood in the term cavity was easy but preferred not to. Loose block impacts tremolo tuning stability, blessing that it is so tight.
Follow up on the below experience with the Wilkinson M series tremolo. So I bought screw extractors and with the smallest extractor it I could turn all 3 screws out and separate the tremolo bridge plate from its original short (36 mm) block. I was exited to put the replacement 40 mm long block on the bridge plate so match both together ... only to see that 2 of the 3 threaded holes used to mate the block and bridge plate together were completely miss-aligned. So this replacement block is worthless. Conclusion: nice cheap tremolo for a Squier but it comes with the well known Chinese "quality control" issues .
Blaming Chines QC because you tore it up by trying to mix and match parts and now it doesn't work, doesn't seem like a fair assessment of the product. I bought a Fender high mass big block for a parts caster. That's made in Taiwan and it's a quality product as well. (btw, they're both about the same price) However, I would buy a bridge with a block that's the right size for your guitar.
@@Guitarnivore No mix and match: the replacement block is officially offered by Musiclily / Wilkinson M series for this tremolo. Don't comment if you just want to hate but know nothing.
@@Steinstra-vj7wl I'm not hating. I'm trying to figure out exactly what you're trying to do. After re-reading your first comment, I misunderstood that you bought the 36mm Wilkinson bridge AND the 40 mm block. I thought you were trying to put the 40mm block onto a stock Squier bridge. Is the tremolo bridge a 52.5mm string spacing? If not, that might be the issue. The 40mm block is made for 52.5mm string spacing. If that's not the case and everything should line up, contact Musiclily. Their customer service is pretty good and they may shoot you a replacement. Also, what are you wanting to achieve with the extra 4mm of pot metal on the block.
@@Guitarnivore The extra 4 (4.5 mm to be exact) longer trem block makes it long enough to fit in a standard (so thicker as apposed to a Squire body ) Strat body.
@@Steinstra-vj7wl Ah, okay. Once again, I misunderstood. Perhaps I need to read more carefully. I was thinking something totally opposite. Now that I know it's a Standard with the two point tremolo system, I understand better. Can you post a link of the exact bridge you purchased?
*Hi man, thanks for the video, do you know the weight ?*
I don't. Sorry. I think I may have one in my spare parts already attached to a tremolo. I can weigh that later tonight and get back to you.
Wilkinson has a 52.5 mm and a 54 mm version (on Amazon), do you remember which version you used?
Fantastic video! What are exactly the type of locking tuners?
They're the thumbwheel type locking tuners from Musiclily. I wouldn't recommend them. They were a great budget tuner, but you get what you pay for and in the long run, they aren't very good. I would spend more money on better ones.
@@Guitarnivore Thanks for the answer. Are they 10mm thickness? Which ones would you do recomend me?
@@ladronesdeguitarras3245 Yes, they're 10mm posts. For locking tuners I usually go with the Fender brand for about $50. You have to do a little modification as far as drilling and filling old peg holes. There are other options out there. I've heard great things about Gotoh tuners and D'Adario. I recently used Wilkinson EZ Lock tuners. They're not an actual locking tuner, but they work really well.
@@Guitarnivore Many thanks, mate. At the end I bought yesterday a locked tuners JN-07SP. I hope to work properly!
But there’s no wilkinson engraved on the saddles
The saddles on the 52.5mm tremolos don't have stamped saddles. I've only seen them on the 54mm.
Does it make any difference in the sound comparing the original bridge?
Honestly, I don't think so. For a full thickness strat, you can pick up a Mexican fender big block tremolo for about $27, which in my opinion. Is better quality.
@@Guitarnivore thx, I want to put it into a skinny Ibanez SA body, I am not sure fender does short block? some videos said the trem block does not add too much to the sound... I am also thinking about channging nut to a graph tech tusq xl.... Have you ecperienced with that one
@@D-8-Tone2 This will not fit in an Ibanez SA body. Isn't the SA body a two post tremolo? It's not going to make any difference in the sound. The biggest difference in sound will come from your pickups and amp speaker.
Graphtech tusk nuts are fantastic. You just have to find the correct size. I have one on my Ibanez AZES30 along with eh grahtech string trees and they work great
@@Guitarnivoreit has 6 screws TR106/std tremol like the AZES. I have a limited run SA130MFM SSS I have the new pickups just waiting to find out what else I should upgrade. It has no string trees, so the choice is limited: nut, pickup and bridge. Probably electronics but because of the body it might not worth the hassle. Pots probably but the switch is low profile special one...
@@D-8-Tone2 That's a nice guitar. I would leave the bridge. I think you'd be disappointed with the Wilkinson, plus the saddles on yours are much better than the Wilkinson.
Fit with Affinity strat?
It should. I ended up putting one in a Jagmaster standard and it fit and that's a thinner body.
Is it a floating trem?
You can adjust it to float, but it's not like a locking tremolo. It's the same as any standard Fender Strat tremolo.
Those locking tuners have terrible reviews on Amazon. Guess you got lucky.
The block is supposed to be stainless steel
Not this one. This video is over two years old and they were just starting to distribute these before they started making their own brass blocks and before the painted stainless steel. The link to this exact bridge is in the description.
Tremolo arm look at my solution, your assumption is complex and flawed my is so simple it seems silly
How is dropping a spring down the hole complex and flawed? That's easier than bending the arm.
@@Guitarnivore I’m glad you asked. It’s not designed to sit that high and won’t function or feel proper. I already tried that.
@@Guitarnivore bending the arm was very easy, took like 3 seconds. Trust me I’m an aerospace engineer and this isn’t rocket science
How high did you try to make it sit? I'm talking about a quarter inch here, maybe less. I can pull it out that far and it feels and functions fine. I don't need to be an aerospace engineer to see that, but keep talking down to people if it makes you feel better.
@@Guitarnivore I wasn't offending you, I was giving credibility to my comment to ensure trust. The offense came from your mind not mind.
I Am sorry guitarnivore you full crap about that if you would seen the video and interview that stew mac did with the guy who own the wilkinson brand
..they work,and...roller 🌳s👍,...6 screw sync bridge 🌉 Wilkinson 👍👍🎸🤎
Good tremolo, smooth good function and tone. Guys don’t be simple minded think logically for solutions , put arm in a vice or hold with strong pliers and bend the arm so you decrease angle. Easy fix no nonsense and worked 100%
