Really enjoyed this video, I run an IC705 and not as courageous as you on using phone, really showing how well the radio performs, enjoyed this and saitsifying to see what can be done with a bit of confidence.

I've made 49.1 with 134 foot wire works very well for just need to move the 49.1 box away from my house it bit noisy see if it makes a difference I will make 9.1 when the weather gets warmer to see what it like.

I had the same problem, too much noise, and the SWR was off the scale, so I placed the 49/1 transformer down the garden, end of the noise, SWR was negligible, I do have it earth through an earth stake, no counterpoise. works great. coax 213.

      Thanks for your vidéo .
so what is your preferite balun ?
does it a différence between her for the signal ? 🙋 73's

does anyone know why 49:1 Unun End fed half wave transformers have a Frequency Coverage: 1.8 to 30 MHz while a 9:1 Unun usually can cover also the 50 mhz (6 meters bands) ?
Is the frequency limitation of a 49:1 purely mechanical or .. ?
can you still operate on 6 meters with a 49:1 ?
for ham operators like myself having to have a separate antenna for 6 meters is not an option. many thanks in advance 73 de 2E0RPS

49:1 balun best for EFWH, while 9:1 is appropriate for a true random wire antenna, right?

These are sometimes known as a Magnetic Longwire Balun. Its really an impedance transformer (9:1) to feed a high impedance, end fed (unbalanced) random wire which is likely to be a few hundred ohms, and transform it into something closer to a 50Ω (unbalanced) coaxial input, hence UnUn.

I have a 1/2 with the 49:1 that I’ll be erecting soon, and just bought a 9:1 to try the random wire.

Interesting video. I have been looking at the IC-705 but have not definitively found whether it will receive vhf marine. I would love to know if you can receive 156 - 162 MHz on yours (assuming it is an unmodified UK version). mni tnx es 73 G6LFT
