      I bought three different models because I don't think we're going to get anything at this price point unless it's Chinese garbage.
      I haven't seen a good knife this cheap in Canada since the Glock 78.

The sheath is exactly what you said...top line stuff (the Morakniv "Pathfinder" with a 6 5/8" blade fits the sheath very well). The fact that it comes from the Ukraine is an added bonus for me personally .... I DETEST buying ANYTHING from china ...period.

      Has it shown any rust? It doesn't have a darkening patina yet, I just wonder why it hasn't cured in color yet. When I get one I will accelerate patina to it with some cider vinegar. Likely stain the handles with some leather boot shine. Give it some artificial aging.

    I have this knife and can highly recommend it. Very affordable, but requires a bit of finishing. I removed the handle, lightly fine sanded the wood and added some dark stain (personal preference). Coated with Linseed oil. I added cold blue to the complete blade and tang with the exception of a fine taped area on blade edge. Also added cord to ferrocerrium rod. Total cost plus about twenty us dollars for stain and cold blue. Added some Mink Oil on leather sheath, which as you stated alone is worth total price. Compares now with $200-300 knives I own, but with some of my personalization. Peace

    It’s funny how nowadays marketing has people looking for certain steels. What makes it funny is they don’t understand toughness is much more important then edge retention. Marketing has people convinced then need the latest and greatest super steel. What many don’t know is most steels are over 20 years old.
    1066, 1070 are amazing steels very tough yet easy to sharpen. The higher the carbon the more chance for being brittle. I prefer a tough knife that’s easy to sharpen.
    Maybe I should explain toughness in steel. I was taught it’s how much abuse a steel can take before it fractures. It’s much easier to fix a roll versus a chip.
    I’ve had this knife more then a year it’s a very good outdoor knife. They also have a flat ground model that’s more everyday useful. Any way my comment was made to help people realize steel is just a small part of knife. This knife is a great choice for many reasons.
    I’d just like to help people understand the knife companies use marketing to confuse people. Then for some reason I don’t understand people will argue about a brand. They won’t admit that the extra price doesn’t have a reason other then profit. Anyway my point is expensive doesn’t mean better, the latest steel doesn’t mean the best. Just look up m390, now it’s something else. Usually they are brittle and hard to sharpen.
    I hope this helps someone, but really buy what makes you happy. Don’t worry about the latest greatest or made by such and such.
    Very nice video

    I just purchased the BPS Knives BS1FTS. It is a very good small knife. Haven't used it outside, but it works great in the Kitchen. I will buy at least one more of theirs. As for the sheath. I gave mine a good coat of Boiled Linseed oil, inside and out. Knife fits better, plus the leather sheath is now water proofed. Elm has the worst grain for splitting. I used to bury wedges in 8 foot long Elm logs, back when I was helping my Dad cut wood for his fireplace.

    Hello, Mr. Young;
    I ordered one Oct. 30, 2022 for $39.99 from amazon, received it Nov. 07.
    You're right, it is a great knife.
    I'm don't like expensive anything so $40 (+tax) is absolutely great AND it is really sharp, too.
    I have a Morakniv Craftline Basic 511 I paid $9.99 (+tax, amazon).
    It's a nice little knife but it's not as sharp & just not as much knife as my BPS.
    I also have a Schrade SCHF56L Large Frontier 9.1in, $29.42 (+tax, amazon).
    It's pretty heavy so when I carry it I put it in bag w/ a shoulder strap.
    The Schrade is a good knife but it's just another 'inexpensive' knife, not the knife the BPS is.
    Have a GREAT day, Neighbor!

    I bought my Adventurer about a year and a half ago, for a mere $30, through Amazon. Best blade money I have ever spent. Recieved a smaller one last Christmas, as a present, and it has been part of my EDC since then. On my hip right now, in fact.
    It's my understanding that BPS are, of course, also supplying the Ukrainian military with the Adventurer model. I've not personally confirmed that, but I see no reason to doubt it.
    I have to admit that I was also surprised by the quality of the ferro rod that comes with it. So often, the ones that come with knives are not of such good quality.

    I just received this knife a couple of weeks ago and was blown away by the sheath and the knife. As you stated, it is sharp right out of the box. However, I did hit it on my Shapton ceramics...taking it to 12,000 grits. With maybe 10 minutes of work I was able to get this knife unbelievably sharp....frightening sharp and a mirror polish. The sheath is worth the total cost of this kit. Maybe in the future they will produce a knife made from blown up Russian armor....I would buy one in a heartbeat. Slava Ukraine.

    You should try the Savage next! I have 4 of their knives the Savage, adventurer, hk5 and the little 15 dollar one. The full flat grind on the Savage makes for one hell of a good cutter. Seriously worth the 35 dollars now. Back when I bought them like a year and a few months ago I paid like 28 each for the more expensive 3 and 14 or 15 for the little scandi.

    I have three bps knives now--and can't see a need for anything else. One is much like the Mora Companion, but with a nicer handle and sheath. And the BPs Savage is in a totally different catagory--a wider blade with a full flat grind that is a pleasure for food prep! And very elegant! The Scandi grind and a thick blade is not ideal for cutting vegetables.

    Morning mark, wow, that’s some pretty high praise for a knife that actually is pretty cheap. First thing I saw though for me was that handle. My hands are size large in gloves, but they’re thin, so that and thanks to a broken pinky knuckle I need a fairly large handle. So I’ll stick to my Finnish knife.
    Hey, I tried the membrane solutions filter finally. It seems to have worked. No one got sick, but it leaks from the outlet cap, and man does it block quickly. Stupid me didn’t bring a bottle that fits to back flush, so I just rinsed the dirt off the face of the carbon filter by hand. I’m trying to see if I can find some sort of coarse prefilter I could fit inline. I suppose I also could have just gotten my feet wet and went out a bit deeper too, since it was a sandy, silty bank I was on, but that’s not always practical, or pleasant. The leaking is an issue though. I’ll have to take a better look at it now that I’m home.

    • @MarkYoungBushcraft
      @MarkYoungBushcraft  Před rokem

      I know what you mean about the knife. Strange to hear about the filter leaking. That is not good. I I wonder if a "millbank bag" would be good to use as a pre-filter. An extra step but worth it to keep the filter form clogging. Let me know if you get the leak sorted out

      @@Surv1ve_Thrive So you propose using like a sleeve inside the reservoir? I think leaving it inside would give an off taste. I think pretty much anything would work, but the issue for me is how do I fill that 6L floppy, soft bag with pre-filtered water while I’m alone. I wish I could Sind some sort of rough filter that I could put inline. That would be easy.

    I would take the Mora heavy duty over this knife. The handle scales will loosen, and rust will get under the scales, and the leather sheath will crack if not treated. So for less headache and just as good a knife, if not better, go for the Mora; but my heart goes out to Ukraine and its nice to support a company there.

    Funny story I was thinking of getting a bushcraft knife last week and had decided on getting a mora bushcraft black because it was reasonably cheaper than other bushcraft knives at around 60 dollars and had good reviews online. So I said I'd wait and think about it but I was pretty sure I'd get that one.And then today you post this video about a knife that seems way better than the mora bushcraft for about 10-20 dollars cheaper and now I'm happy I waited before buying one instead of waisting the money. Thank you
    Edit:I seen you have a video on mora knives and I'm wondering in your opinion for a first bushcraft knife should I get the mora bushcraftblack or bps adventure?

    I just bought the knife. As I unboxed it I was so excited to have sheath house a ferro rod on the side because I’ve never had a sheath like that. Well putting the ferro rod into the loop was damn near impossible and even more impossible to take back out. I was very disappointed. Any suggestion how to loosen that loop?

    • @MarkYoungBushcraft
      @MarkYoungBushcraft  Před rokem

      Try wetting (very wet) the ferro-rod loop with water, then try inserting the rod. You may need to use something else to stretch it first. Once you get the rod in, leave it and let the sheath dry. It will hold the new shape after that. Remember, as you use the rod, it will get smaller. The bungee will help it from dropping out. Hope this helps
