They were at first stereotyped as useless men who are overweight with neckbeards and bad hygiene, then as cons started to become as much of a thing as sporting events and concerts, they were accused of making cons smell bad (both stereotypes and accusations are still common today despite the supposed calls against fat shaming), not long after, the "Cosplay is not consent" signs started popping up and the MeToo movement came into fruition which gave more power to misandry, now with feminists taking over the geek community more of these guilty until proven innocent claims are common. They target any men they don't like but they mainly go after low-status men who don't have great social skills. Even though it certainly can happen to men like Inquisitor who had a big platform, it doesn't change the fact that geeky men are only seen as worthy if they have significant status (for example, Dream, The Anime Man, Game Grumps, male anime VAs).
It's not just the cosplay community. It's everywhere. You wouldn't have to look hard on this very platform to find false accusations of gromming etc based on nothing or false information. It's become sadly very normalized now. In the end it also hurts stopping actual pedos online as well.

It falls under Romeo and Juilet laws and common sense says there's no issue dating someone who's the same age as you are.
