    I see a lot of people asking why are you doing this to your body, but as an artist and a ex dancer, I know how it feels to WANT to learn something so bad that you train everyday and the process to that is painful, your body is not used to that and that's why it hurts, but if you don't, you'll always ask yourself the "what if". I admire your braveness and you will to perfom this. It's amazing.

    From seeing the comments, I got to say, nothing wrong with either giving up something if you can't physically and/or mentally handle something. Some things just aren't for some people. BUT there's nothing wrong with working through things like this either. Some people are like "why should she put herself through this if it hurts?" Well ask that to all the other professionals who've learned this or heck, people from Cirque Du Soleil. None of them was just born with the pain tolerance, they had to learn it. It's definitely no walk in the park, but it CAN be done.

    • @LukeandSteph
      @LukeandSteph Před 3 lety +14

      I saw an artist do this in a Cirque show, it was incredible! But I looked up the artist after and she had been training for YEARS before she performed her hair hanging act. I can't believe Lindsey only did it in a couple months, that's insanely dangerous! I think that's why everyone is so concerned for her.

    • @rocksfire4390
      @rocksfire4390 Před 3 lety +5

      this is not true, some people have higher pain tolerance then others. also this isn't something you normally just start doing. as someone who is new will ofc feel far more pain then someone who is use to it.
      any extra weight makes it that much more painful.
      if you looked up the act, it still HURTS even the professionals who have been doing it most of their life.

    • @KateandBree
      @KateandBree Před 3 lety +10

      I’m a disabled athlete and there’s one thing I learned from attending a symposium from someone who trains Olympians: there’s a difference between growing pain (as in you’re gaining strength) and literal pain. If you’re shaking, sore, fatigued, burning or your muscles are swollen, these are normal when you are training. If you experience - at any time during training - a sudden intense, sharp pain that makes you gasp and is only relieved when you stop, that’s your body telling you to stop. No more. Doing it more is a detriment to your body. You can ruin your joints that is only shown in the future.
      She could have done herself a real disservice by not listening to her body.

    It breaks my heart people in the comments don't see the beauty in this, and question the why. This is one of the few extended looks into what this woman does to prepare for her art. The sacrifices, the challenges she overcomes, that what she does in every one of her videos is a lot harder and more taxing than we think. One of the few people on earth that can play this beautifully, of the even fewer that can play while dancing, one of the few that can now say she can play and dance suspended by her hair. All of that and she made herself vulnerable to share it all with us. This is beautiful. This is inspiring.

Then I show your vlog and they quickly change their mind. Thank you for showing us every part of the process, the ups and downs, joy and pain. Lindsey, you are incredible and truly an inspiration. I struggle with anxiety and depression and I can’t even sit down to write the stories I am dying to without doubt and nervous reactions, whether I will ever publish or not. But seeing you struggle through your training and crying each time you just pull up to the “gym” or whatnot, it has given me comfort and strength in knowing that you are right: I can do hard things, because I have done them before. I am strong and I can overcome.
    To the “why would someone even want to do this if it hurts so much?”
    That is human nature, and the pain is just one of the kinds of costs we pay to achieve something new or grand. A ballerina destroys their feet to dance as gracefully as they do, bodybuilders undergo training and intense restrictions to enhance their body’s strength, even musicians and artists give up countless hours and dedicated brain power to hone their crafts. Everyone that strives for excellence or for their goal or, in this case, vision, has to sacrifice. Yes it hurts, but she is okay and if there was that much risk why would anyone do it? Yea there are less painful, more conventional ways to hang, but this is unique and practical for violin playing and full movement for dance. So if that’s the case, why not learn this? It looks pretty amazing, btw

I love the message that no matter what you are going through, keep persevering and you will make it, but there are times where you are stronger by giving up. Sometimes it is not worth the risks and dangers of something. Hanging by your hair is pulling on the scalp and that can cause serious problems especially if you do it repeatedly. It damages your scalp and you can go bald and have other health problems. Plus, that is not good for your neck to hang like that. Especially if you happen to fall. That isn't the same thing at all. There is tremendous catharsis through pain though. If you can bury a best friend and a parent you'd be surprised how much you can endure and how much testing yourself can help you get over something. Athletes go through this too. Think about boxers or MMA fighters. Think about soldiers. Think about a doctor trying to save a patient for hours on end straight. How people choose to inflict pain on themselves to test themselves and make themselves stronger is how humans are wired. Whenever you go to a gym you are ripping your muscles up - it is when they HEAL that you become stronger. This is no different.

    I've been going through a really hard time recently, my dad has cancer and my parents are divorcing. I am currently 15 years old and my mom is starting to move out. My parents have fought as long as I can remember and while I should probably be relieved that it will be over soon, I'm just really really sad that they never tried and worked it out like I have been hoping for for so long because I really want them to be happy together. My dad got a computer gaming addiction after I was born so I never really got to spend time with him or really get to know him, there aren't any personal things I know about him like I should, like what his childhood was like, funny stories, hobbies he had and things he did before I was born that I just don't know about and he was verbally abusive to me too throughout my life. He would do/say really mean things then I would cry about it, and he said he would do better and that he was sorry but the change only lasted a couple days then he would go back to being terrible again and each time we went through that cycle I had hoped the change would stick that time but it never did and after a while I got depressed about it, giving up hope. Then a couple years ago, I find out he had cancer and I may never get to have a dad that loves me. Finally, after 15 years it took him having cancer and telling me he and mom were going to divorce that he actually started trying in our relationship, little to no gaming and is actually kind to me, but it seems like a cruel joke that he's finally learned that now and he might die at any time. I've been so scared for whether he will live or die and even if he does survive it will never be the same because my family is split in half. I just feel so alone right now and Covid is making it so much worse because it's preventing me from seeing my friends and I'm stuck in my house seeing my dad sick, my parents not together, and it's driving me insane. I realize that this won't be forever, that Covid will eventually end and my mom will eventually move out and I might feel better about that, even though it my dad died that would be permanent. But I'm clinging on to the desperate hope that I will be okay in the end and that even though it will be really hard, maybe for a long time, but it will be okay in the end, and I'm trying to remind myself of that constantly but it's really hard. Then I see this video, where Lindsey has not only gone through difficult training by reminding herself of how strong she really is, which helped inspire me a little bit more, but has also gone through someone they deeply loved passing away due to cancer; twice. It really helped me have hope that I really will be okay and it has helped me so, so much, more than people reading this may understand. And I really want to say thank you, Lindsey, for going through that pain and succeeding in the end and sharing it with the world because you have inspired me so much ❤️

    Hi Lindsey! First 💜 I think you are incredible! You didn’t Have to do this, but you had an inspiration, a drive, and you preserved! I think this videos is so much more inspirational and important than what the negative Nancy’s realize. You know God has a plan for you and you showed us All in this video! I think what speaks to me most is the strength you have shown we all have within us. If we dig deep, even on the hardest days we can do it. As an artist who isn’t always able to work in my field, some days are so hard to get out of bed and know I have to go to a day of work when I’d rather be doing something else. I don’t Have to. I could call in sick, quit, go live with my mum and never do anything I didn’t want to again. But no matter how hard, if I want to move forward, be better, and eventually get to where I want to be, I Do Have to do the hard thing and not give up. You didn’t give up; not when you lost faith in yourself, not when you told God you were through; You are an inspiration! Never stop pushing yourself, never lose faith, you are a force! 💜💜💜💜💜💜

    I have a similar story like yours Lindsey. I started playing piccolo, bc I had already played flute so I thought it would be easy and I was interested. I soon found out after the first practice that it was much much harder than it looked. What was even worse was that I have scoliosis and couldn't have as much air as I wanted to play the piccolo very well. It felt so impossible that I almost gave up, but just like you I prayed about it and I knew what God and my heart wanted so I decided not to give up. And that next rehearsal, I started getting better and better until I could play it just as well as the flute. I still play piccolo and flute to this day and I don't regret my decision to keep moving forward at all. This video was so emotional and inspiring that I was in tears by the end. Love ya Lindsey keep being awesome, and Merry Christmas!!!☺🌨☃️🎁

    A lot of people wondering why would she do this. But she’s an artist. Artists set different goals for themselves. Why would a ballerina dance. Why would a guitarist continue playing despite the painful callous you can develop on your fingers. Why would a boxer box. Why would an athlete play and put their bodies through the ringer.

    Keep it up. This is inspiring.👏👏👏👏

    "Be strong", "do what you can't", "grow beyond yourself", "pain makes you stronger", "keep expanding your limits" That's all well and good. I just think that at some point you have to sit down and ask yourself: Do these exertions, this pain, this stress (not only physically, but rather mentally) really make sense. Will this really help me? And if you answer this question internally with "actually not", then there is no shame in taking a step back and looking around for a new plan or at least considering an alternative.
    In today's fast-paced digital world, very young people are desperately trying to get attention and often cross boundaries (of various kinds) that they would rather not cross. I don't want to take away anyone's dreams with this. Rather, I would like to express that it is not about attention, being famous or "clicks", but rather about inner peace and that you can still look at yourself in the mirror.
    Regardless of that, I find Lindsey/you an extremely gifted choreographer, singer and violinist. Her/Your music has accompanied me for many years and through a few difficult periods in my life. Her/Your music has always given me short breaks to take a deep breath and reconsider my approach. Thanks for that!
    Yes, this year 2020 is extremely difficult for all of us. Many have suffered losses of all kinds, but several vaccines are in production and so a great ray of hope apears in the sky. We can do it guys! I wish you all a Merry Christmas with your closest family.

      I doubt she's doing this for attention though. Like there's a bunch of easier stuff that would give her way more attention that she could do. She's doing this for the art, for herself, to prove to herself she can do it or for some other reason idk, but i don't think its for attention
      There's a difference between doing art for yourself and wanting people to see it and doing something just for attention

      I agree. I felt like she was missing the point that her body was telling her to stop. You are not weak when it is literally hurting your body for no good reason. If she has felt the 9 months I have gone through with spinal, neck and then shoulder dis-alignment that I have this year, she would definitely think twice. I usually can't even find a good spot to sleep on. This is after 10 weeks of chiro and PT. 2-3 minutes of entertainment is not worth the misery and months of trying to get your body to bounce back.
