Use the power of your vote to determine how many terms, if at all any, an MP may. I am always amazed at how Kenyan voters believe that they are powerless. Even with the power of the vote in your hands, you still want someone else to think for you and to legislate a two term limit!

There is no such thing as RECALLING the president. He can only be impeached. And that's done on the floor of Parliament. Most of the current MPs are still loyal to their parties (and I can't fault them on that). Ruto still has some significant hold on his MPs, and in a parliamentary process, he is likely to carry the day. How will he be impeached when the minority side still has minority numbers?
Just like he seems to be carrying the day with even the very unpopular Finance Bill 2024!

    • @georgeodhiambo598

There is no such thing as RECALLING the president. The process of recalling applies to MPs. The President can only be impeached and the process takes place on the floor of Parliament. Ruto controls the majority of MPs by a significant margin. Where Ruto has problems is in the streets, outside Parliament. Ruto is quite comfortable with Parliament and he can threaten/bribe kichwa ngumu ones if need be.

When the election act was passed the politicians made sure recall is a tough nut to crack. Unless the Courts Rule on the de-franchisation of the electorate as unconstitutional, the best brains of our Lawyers have a task to legally challenge and circumvent this atrocious crime against the people of Kenya.

@@johnosumba1980 The presidency and legislature are very different. Both ascend to office through an elective process but the presidency comes with immense Executive powers. So immense that even after promulgation of the 2010 Constitution, the other 2 arms of Govt ie the Legislature and the Judiciary are easily captured by the Executive through the presidency. It is an office that can easily sabotage and defeat the democratic will of the people. That alone should demonstrate to you that apart from requiring the presidency to submit (or at least appear to submit) to the will of the people every 5years, a term limit was imposed to ensure that no rogue occupant of that office uses his position to defeat the will of the people.
What stops you or any other voter from exercising your democratic rights to throw out an MP who is not your favourite? Why are you acting weak, yet you have been empowered by the constitution? Come on, my friend, just exercise your power of the vote. Stop looking for solutions from without even when you have them from within!

@@johnosumba1980 The Presidency and the legislature are very different. The presidency comes with immense Executive powers.Left unchecked, it is capable of doing a great deal of harm to a country. Have you forgotten the days when it was common for African presidents to become life presidents through legislation? Don't even think of comparing the kind of checks and controls that need to be imposed on MPs on the one hand and on the presidency on the other. MPs have no Executive powers.

    • @georgeodhiambo598

Wacha ushenzi. If you are elected on a party ticket, then you are expected to champion the views of your party except where the party has not taken a stand on a motion. Secondly since an MP is elected to REPRESENT his electorate, it is important for an MP to align his choices with the wishes of the people.
Finally, if an MP is keen on voting independently, then such a leader also ought to run on an independent ticket. That is one of the key reasons why independent tickets are allowed for. Just don't run on a party ticket only to turn around and start behaving as if you clinched your seat on an independent ticket.

Participates in law-making by considering, debating and approving bills concerning counties. Determines allocation of national revenue among counties.
