After his final performance of Burn, Alan ventured outside -even with a broken toe-to see the few of us who were still hoping to meet him at the theatre. He chatted and took selfies with us. So sweet and kind.

For years after " Circle of Friends" I hated this guy. Then I saw him in something else and went OH, he's just a fabulous actor.

I have a great picture of my grandmother meeting The Queen, and Princess Anne. They were more lovely than either of us imagined them to be.
I don't think that they're "inflating her kindness." She's human. She probably had good days, and bad days, like all of us. I believe that she still treated people with more respect - being royalty, and perhaps being somewhat "entitled" to be more demanding/ curt with her staff/ subjects - than the average city employee does that's hired to .serve the general public!

What I fail to understand about this judgmental type of behavior is
Perhaps the British Empire was not an ideal instiution But does Alan think that the countries affected by the British Empire would simply have evolved untouched by the rest of he world or more likely would they not have become part of a French,German ,Spanish or Chinese empire
On balance I would have thought the British Empire was the least worse option and a more gown up view of the past should be taken
