    The wealth of Jamaica and the natural beauty of the countryside. The free money from the IMF and Others allows the government to neglect the country's development. The things you have in abundance that the rest of the world needs will be wasted. The British left a well-developed railway system in Jamaica that was functional and served the interior effectively. We allowed the system to fall apart to the point of deterioration. Talents are not lacking in Jamaica, what the country needs are leaders who can think outside the box. Selfless leaders and nation-builders. If Sam Sharpe had behaved like the current leaders the people of Jamaica would be still in a bandage.

      Well said sir but just one thing, the IMF money was not and will never be free. It comes at a major cost, with stringent conditions attached and it has to be paid back at exorbitant interest rates. The IMF dictates to you how and where you should spend the loan that they give you and it means neglecting infrastructure, and instead, spending the loan with companies that they recommend, their companies to import their food and other consumer goods that Jamaica doesn’t really need. We have so much idle lands here we should be self-sufficient and should not have to import so much food. They lend us money but they take it back from us by forcing us to spend it with their businesses and then pay back the loan at extremely high interest rates. Jamaica is paying the price for entangling itself from in the 1970s with the IMF anaconda. The IMF is a debt trap! If Jamaica doesn’t wisen up and handle its finances more responsibly, we will never be able to free ourselves from the coils of the IMF anaconda.

      @robertgrant5372 Před rokem

      Stop blaming the government for everything, a lot these Jamaicans are at fault too, they have a thieving mentality that they called hustling.most of these infrastructures are destroyed by them. They steal whatever they can not knowing that they are undermining the country,for example,I have a friend living here in the USA,told me that he used to be a porter at the K.P.H. This man said whenever anyone comes to the hospital needing a wheelchair, he would sell the hospital’s wheelchair to them.he says he has links in the pharmacy where he would fill prescriptions and pocket the money. There’s another guy who worked at the Jamaica public works ,he says at one point there was a new truck parked on the compound, it was not needed at that time, by the time they were ready to use the truck, it was a shell,they stole the parts off the truck and sell it. This shit happens island wide. How can the country get ahead if they keep buying the same thing over and over again?these are the same people that blame the government for everything.the mentality of the people have to change. The bus system suffered from that too, don’t be so quick to blame the government,we all need to take responsibility,it’s our island!

    This is community where I was born. One of the persons you interviewed earlier is my relative. When the railway was closed in 1992 the community was devastated as the railway was the life blood of every resident of Catadupa. There is a lot more history about Catadupa. Wonderful place. It is regrettable that the authorities don't know the rich history of this very rural community.

They were the railway gatekeepers at the crossing ( this was later named Holness Crossing...after the death of my Great grandmother at the crossing) just before the Cambridge Station stop.
    I remember going on the train from Cambridge to Kingston to visit my aunt each summer holiday...fun times.

It was a trip of lifetime as I have always wanted to on the train. My dear father told me about all the stops the train would make and Catadupa was one of them mentioned. As one of Jamaicans abroad we should invest in restoring some if not of our heritage.
      We have a beautiful country let's be on the world stage for better things than robberies and killing for we are great people with lots of creativities. 🙏🙏💖& peace.

    Mr. Gayle, You should study the history of the railway in Jamaica. It was the first country to have rail travel after Britain, USA and Canada. It had its heyday but met many obstacles, including going bankrupt. My grandfather was the Superintendent of the Permanent Way Division so he was involved in all aspects, especially the engineering. He retired in the early 1940s but we listened to his wonderful stories. He was very involved with Catadupa but I am not sure when. He died in 1955 at the age of 74. Even in the early 1960s my siblings and I traveled First Class from Kingston to Montego Bay. It was magical to see the island from the train. In Porus people would be selling all sorts of stuff but the most memorable were the braided bunches of tangerines and other fruit.

    Mr. Gayle you did a good job showcasing Catadupa. I do enjoy the rich history of the place, and Train Station. It a shame that they don’t have a statue, or a community center irected for The Hon. Samuel Sharpe in his district. The Train Station should be refurbish, and put back into operation for people of the surrounding districts to get employment. That area has a a lot of resources, that could be harvested and put to good use. For example you have natural spring water that flows continuously. It could be bottled and sold for the people to gainfully get employment , and you have a lush vegetation with a lot of fruit trees, bananas, etc that could be sold for profit. Then you have that talented gentleman using recycle plastics to make things which is very good. He could teach others to do his craft, and help clean up the enviroment. I am thine for the whole Railway System to get back into operation. I have never driven on any of the Jamaican Trains before, and would like me and my family to get the experience. Keep Up The Good Work. Blessings.
