What happens if the insurance company goes bankrupt? How does that effect this system?

Many mutual insurance companies have been around and paid a dividend uninterrupted since before the Civil War. For example, MassMutual, PennMutual, New York Life, Pacific Life, and so on. Since mutual insurance companies cannot do fractional reserve banking; in fact, they are cash businesses that have to prove their reserves on a quarterly basis. Suffice it to say that if insurance companies need a bailout, then every other asset is crashing HARD.
