I'm learning this piece for this year's solo and ensemble competition, and I love it. :) It always makes me smile to hear it, especially "Brazileira." This performance is beautiful and inspiring!
do you know who he is? He is the concert master and principle saxophonist of Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra. Also a Professor in saxophone and a highly acclaimed soloist giving atleast 100 recitals a year, worldwide. He is one of the best saxophonist of our time. And his playing is absolutely amazing.
His music stand is that low because he most likely has the piece memorized. He is only (In my opinion) the best classical alto sax player in the world.
The three movements in Scaramouche, were originally taken from Milhaud's incidental music to "Bolivar" and "Le Medecin volant," two works produced at the short-lived Scaramouche Theater. Bolivar was written for several instruments (including sax) and Le Medecin volant was sax and piano. The two piano version was afterwards. Read page 269 of "Jean-Marie Londeix: Master of the Modern Saxophone."
im sure this was a masterclass, a concert for sax-students, he was amusing them, as he did with us in berlin. he even apologized to us after the concert for being so frivolous : ) i liked him very much, he knows what music is about!
Wow, im impressed, very well delivered good expression, good mood, good tempo .. great job... im not too crazy about the last note in the piece, but i guess it was meant to be spontaneous, sounds good
The only thing I'd say to the performer to make this better is to watch your finger flying...it tends to get a little bit nuts. But your sound, tone, intonation, and musicality were all superb! Very nicely done.
@bleox I believe it. One of the best saxophonists I know has only been playing for 2 years, yet he does these levels of pieces...easily lol. Keep going guy/ gal. You can be great some day.
Ah this piece, this piece. No easy feat. It took me months to perfect, but it was well worth it in the end. Beautiful and challenging. But I feel the most rewarding part is to perform and say, "Hey, ma'! Look what I can do!" lol
He looks young, but he is over 40 I believe. He is one of the top professionals in Japan - quite possibly in the whole wide world. Do not be discouraged.
my saxophone teacher says this piece was originally for sax and orchestra. but my accompanist seems to think it was originally for two pianos. i don't know who to believe!
Wow Implaying this piece with my tutor for saxophone. And you won't believ it, but I'm only 12. I've been playin for 2 years, and my tutor said I'm ready for this piece. I hope one day I'll be as good as Nobuya, but I think I'm almost ready
@elphaphoenix Rephrase that "the saxophone is one of the easiest instruments to play BADLY". It's one of few instruments you can pick up and start honking christmas carols within an hour or so, it says nothing about its difficulty after that stage...
Wow Implaying this piece with my tutor for saxophone. And you won't believ it, but I'm only 12. I've been playin for 2 years, and my tutor said I'm ready for this piece. I hope one day I'll be as good as Nobuya, but I think I'm almost ready. And his music stand is too low lol. And amazing Piano Player
@bleox His music stand is not too low, that is how you should have your stand when you're performing a solo so the stand does not interfere with the sound.
hmmm braziliera is very hard...but i see where you're coming from...I havent played braziliera in 5 years and when i tried it again yesterday i could play it really well still once you get it, you get it for life then it gets easy

just because you can move your fingers this fast doesn't mean you are ready to play a piece like this. also, i hope you've figured out by now why his stand is that low.
He has an opinion, he is critisizing Nobuya Sugawa, and he's doing it politely and with knowledge. It's not because a man is really good at something that no one can critisize him. And even if you're not really the one that should critisize, because you can't do better than Nobuya, you should still be allowed to say what you didn't like. And personally, i think it's a real good thing coz like Saxophonist23 says, it's to get better. Even if he should have thought that Nobuya will never hear this
I think Brazileira is the easiest to play... but it is all opinion and what you are better with playing... I am a jazz musician and I love to play ballads... So #2 and #3 are the easiest for me to play... but half way through #2 is hard for me... I am practicing. Going to play this song in solo and ensemble this year...
Don't you all think the Brazileira is a little bit too fast? I agree - it's a tremendous effect in that tempo, he's a devil on that sax, but still - this is a dance - Samba... Shouldn't it be a little slower?
I'm no sax player, but let's give that pianist a hats off too. NOT an easy piece.
Let's not forget the composer, Darius Milhaud.
Amazing how he makes every piece his own!!
0:00〜第1楽章Vif
3:00〜第2楽章Modéré
6:40〜第3楽章Brazileira

freaking amazing.
i love the way he just looks at the audience with a suprised look when he does a really difficult part.
憧れです!
i love to see Kenny G and Nobuya Sugawa make a duet all and competition.they both have saxo spirit .
His music stand is that low because he most likely has the piece memorized. He is only (In my opinion) the best classical alto sax player in the world.
❤️ Espectacular pareja. Maestros los dos 🌻
ブラジレイラいいですね!

I love the rendition of scaramouche, easily my favorite, makes me look at it completely differently. One of the best players in the world!!
Wow, im impressed, very well delivered good expression, good mood, good tempo .. great job...

Grande padronanza dello strumento accompagnata da stile ed attitudine musicale. Bravo! *****
He is Legend !bravo👍👏💪🏼👍👏💪🏼

Wow! Good job!
I like this preformance with your spontaneous end of this work!
BRAVISSIMI!!!
Bravissimi tutti e due!!!
Nobuya Sugawa is amazing

良い曲ですね。
good song. one of the more fun classical songs out there.
I have to oppose - I think the altissimo ending is a great way to end! It gives it a completely different feel!
Unless you're asking about brand or model, it's an alto saxophone.
Remember: Scaramouche is a Romantic comedian.
He is amazing!!! My idol!!!
Playing this solo and ensemble and this piece kicks your butt if you don't have technique!
my saxophone teacher says this piece was originally for sax and orchestra. but my accompanist seems to think it was originally for two pianos. i don't know who to believe!

Your performence.

I'm playing this piece in about a week, and as fun as it is, this guy makes it look waaaaaaaaay too easy.
@Samuel Tufts. That last piece is the Promenade from Pictures at an Exhibition by Modest Mussorgsky.
Amazing!
Wow Implaying this piece with my tutor for saxophone. And you won't believ it, but I'm only 12. I've been playin for 2 years, and my tutor said I'm ready for this piece. I hope one day I'll be as good as Nobuya, but I think I'm almost ready

so awesome :)
Then you need to hear Londeix play it. Not to say this performance was bad by any means, but, that's a pretty good performance as well.

Pictures at an exhibition (M. Mussorgsky): 1. Promenade
just out of curiosity, am i the only one who enjoys the third movement at the tempo he's playing it at?
Very good :D
@jij9205 5 years is nothing in the spectrum of a lifetime, which is how long you have to learn.
Oh my god your right! oh wait no. yes it is.
he makes it look EASY....dang
Wow Implaying this piece with my tutor for saxophone. And you won't believ it, but I'm only 12. I've been playin for 2 years, and my tutor said I'm ready for this piece. I hope one day I'll be as good as Nobuya, but I think I'm almost ready. And his music stand is too low lol.
1:54 Amazing Double Tonguing
lmfao at his face at the end of the first movement
このくらい吹けるようになりたい
just because you can move your fingers this fast doesn't mean you are ready to play a piece like this. also, i hope you've figured out by now why his stand is that low.
lol... this is so good
he's like 48....
he's the next saxophone legend after londeix!
It doesn't matter who he is. I am just giving my musical opinion. Which may or may not matter to him at all. I am just trying to help.
u know what, this man is sick.
I' m girl from norway. 12 years
I am playing on scaramouche right now.
I' ve been playing it for about one year. and it is still very difficult.

@zachindie or with the audience's view of the performer's hands
Holy hell @ The end!!!!!!
Don't you all think the Brazileira is a little bit too fast? I agree - it's a tremendous effect in that tempo, he's a devil on that sax, but still - this is a dance - Samba... Shouldn't it be a little slower?
how do you get such a great tone quality on your saxophone?
Wahooo ! It 's beautiful !! I played also Brazileira. How old are you ?
この人は速いフレーズを弾くよりゆったりとしたメロディーを弾いてるのが合ってると思いますねw
Truth hurts.
@XdarkdomainX bach died before the saxophone was invented.....
the end of the third movement is not so. But I love it anyway.
That guy is a crack!
He plays on full gold plated Yamaha's, I believe 875EX's.
na flipas sin final jajaja
OMGAWSH!
6:44
It was almost too fast for my taste, but there is no denying Mr. Sugawa's extreme talent.
Hey I did this at my solo ensemble contest last year and i was only 13 years old
where can i get this music score?
played at tempo. nice
