  • Kerstin Pakka considered herself ardently pro-choice, until the day she had an abortion. In the days and years afterwards, her whole life seemed to unravel, and she found herself consumed with regret.
She felt drawn to the Catholic Church, but was afraid that if anyone there discovered what she'd done, she'd be kicked out of the building. But when she finally found the courage to tell a priest about her abortion, what she found instead was love, acceptance, and the tools she needed to heal.
Kerstin now works with Project Rachel, a confidential ministry that helps people just like herself who are seeking to heal after abortion.

I think a lot of people outside the Church (or within it, for that matter) don't ever really appreciate how compassionate most Catholics feel towards those who have had an abortion. Our horror for the act does not extend to those who have committed it. We are more likely to feel a tender pity for someone who has been deluded into believing abortion is their only option, and have a deep desire to help those who are currently facing that crisis.
