Michael Anthony was a way bigger component of the Van Halen vocal sound than most people realized or acknowledged back in the day. He filled in Roth's weaknesses.
Michael anthony has always been one of the most underrated bass players. I think it's very easy to get lost in a group, when your guitar player is EVH, your drummer is AVH, and your lead singer is DLR. He never got the credit he very well deserved. Vh always had great background vocal harmonizing and most of that was Michael. You can watch old live footage, and clearly see michael making DLR sound great. Carrying out, and finishing what DLR couldn't. Truely seems like a great guy. I really hate that he got done dirty by eddie and alex. Made him sign away his rights. Before he could tour with Van Halen in 2004 I believe. Sammy hagar has come to his defense many times before, calling out the VH brothers for talking shit. Saying Michael is basically the nicest guy in the world, and never said anything to anyone, and he got shit on. Yet, even after EVH died, michael said he feels bad he never got to speak to eddie again, but he said his goodbyes and said love ya man. Agreed. Michael Anthony is a class act and great musician.
@@181le6 Well said my friend, he's an amazing player and his backup vocals are one of a kind, no wonder so many want to jam with him plus nicest guy in Rock, met him at The Namm show years ago and signed my Van Halen album, took time to talk to me for like 10 minutes just so nice and kind, not many rock stars will do that many just don't want to be bothered.
@@lastdaysguitarAl who? This is a conversation about Michael Anthony original bassist from the American rock band called Van Halen. They probably have a Wikipedia. Look them up for more information……….🙄
He’s the best success story to emerge from Van Halen. He’s managed to stay married to the same wife since before they were ever signed. He stayed out of the BS that was taking place, whether it be from the brothers, Dave, or that scheister Ray Daniels, and he waved the “ =\//-/= flag” so to speak higher, bolder, and with more conviction than anyone else in the band. And he wasn’t even related the them. And here he is still out there getting it done In a way, you could consider his removal from the band a compliment from the brothers. They wanted to stir up shit and Mike didn’t… and they didn’t like that. Guys like Michael Anthony are often perceived as a threat to the narcissistic mind
Mikey was truly Van Halen's secret weapon! And while it's too bad how he got treated by the brothers especially during the 1984 tour? But because he's the person he is, he never talked down about them, always took the high road showing what a classy guy he is!❤🎸😎👍
@@humanactivated1017 BULLSHIT! You obviously aren’t the sharpest tack in the lot! Because that has to be the most ridiculous, and dumbest things I’ve heard in awhile!😖🤣😆
Although Michael is a fantastic bassist, his vocal ability has always resonated with me the most. Eddie himself had said that Michael is the magic behind the classic Van Halen vocal harmonies. There's no doubt this man's still got the pipes! Rock on Mikey!!! 🤘😆🤘
Michael Anthony was The BIG ENORMOUS SOUND OF vanhalen Very few People Don't realize THAT IT'S ALL THE JACK & HOT SAUCE WITH A LITTLE TEQUILA MIXED IN WABO CABO 😂
No one plays the drums with more joy than that man, Mike Portnoy!!!! Can’t wait to hear and watch DT as they were from their inception. No disrespect to Mangini… but we all know those classic DT songs are Portnoys babies!!!
Other than the money and I guess that's a pretty good reason, I don't know why he stayed with them after they cut him out he was there from the beginning he was Van Halen too you know
From what I read somewhere he had more money than them at the time and that's one thing that pissed the VH Brothers off because he took care of his money.
Michael was highly unappreciated in that band. I still get pissed at how they did him , replacing him with Wolfie and not even calling him for the DLR reunion band.
I don't trust anybody who doesn't like Mikey. The stories he could tell, but doesn't! Class!!

He was a HUGE part of the harmonies!!!
He filled in Roth's weaknesses.
UM THAT WOULD BE A BIG NEGATIVE!
But keep telling yourself that. 🙄
Michael Anthony is the nicest Rock Star I have ever met, just a super cool guy who appreciates the fans.
And he's a damn fine bass player too! 🎸🎤👍🥃

Mike the most professional of all the original Van Halen band and aged the best
He's lucky he got a decent plastic surgeon.
Facts!!! The only one who was never totally out of his mind on drugs and always stayed grounded and loyal to the Fans!!!

Coulda mailed it in, it is a big party after all. Instead he nailed it to the frickin' wall. Props.
Alway knew mike had the chops to do the whole thing on his own. this performance prooves it, he definitely is the unsung hero of vh

Every great band has to have a somewhat normal guy to keep the shit together.
You people just don’t understand bass players role in society . Being a bass player you are automatically placed at the bottom .

Mikey for the win! I love seeing him do the DLR era songs!
Damn.... he absolutely killed it. Loved listening to this!
That... was awesome.
Cream of the crop right there. Gotta keep it alive 🤘 Thank you for the great video! Enjoyed it.
Brent Woods doing it justice... on a Les Paul no less.
Mike is a class act...
Mike still brings it and more! Awesome!!
Brent Woods absolutely killing it" . Mikey being Mikey.
Van Halen The most ultimate Rock Band of all time R.I.P EVH
This kicked serious ass, great job!!
They freaking killed that!
doesn't get better than that.....Mikey rocks!!!!!!!
2:49 I'd like to hear DLR wail on key like that! Well done Mikey!
Michael Anthony, Mick Mars...the nice guys are starting to separate themselves.
Starting? Its always been that way. Mick was in the crue and tolerated their bullshit because he knew. Mike was always class
That’s the beginning of a supergroup! Mike, Mick, and?
Just wow!
They took no prisoners!
Mike crushed it! Portnoy elevates every song he plays on. I love this version if the song!
Awesome thx for posting. Sounds like an epic night!

Thank very much for this !
Mikey is such a badass!!
Fantastic stuff!
He does Ed better than Satriani did on Stern
Mike rules!
Hey…..me and Michael Anthony wear the same style jeans!
I think he first wore those on the 1984 tour.
Cool !
Anthony could front any band and should
Michael Anthony !!!!
this guy is a class act all the way
Mike and Mike on the same stage. If John was there I would have lost my mind.
Awesome

O that brought back some memories from days gone by.
Awesome Mike as always Respect!
FUUUUUUUUU__ YEEEES!!! 👍👍
good video-great song-from van halen 2? still good song
He’s always had a fantastic voice for backing up Diamond Dave. I agree that he was a major factor in Van Halen’s early success, no doubt.
Mikey is the real deal. Still sounds great.
Mikey rules!
I see no reason why Michael Anthony doesn’t put his own band out there and play after seeing this.
here we have the only man who could harmonize with DLR and make him sound decent.
Why’d they even need a singer, when Mike is so good?
saved cash no dlr!
And the shortest.
Where’s the Jack Daniel’s Bass??
What fountain of youth are Michael and Sammy drinking from?
Michael sings good too
Did everybody run the keyboard part of "Tom Sawyer" through your heads at the end of the song?
Killer
Nice guys can finish first. Mike did everything right. If rest of VH was like Mike, VH would have released 30 albums instead of 12.

Dave was really great on the original version, eh!? Great to hear it again though.
It would be nice to hear this “officially “, not on someone’s iPhone. Still good tho
It's a Samsung, but thanks 🤣

Maybe sign up guitarist for the Sammy tour?? He nailed it👍👍
nah, dont sign up the guy who simplified a trademark evh lick in that solo
Eddie Trunks 40th Anniversary? What the fk is that? He ain't 40.
It's an anniversary, not a birthday. 40th year in broadcasting.

That high pitch stuff just embarrassing
Great bassist , but hard to listen to him try and sing lead vocals. yikes
That’s a disgrace, can we now dispel the fact Mikey sang “great backing vocals”. No stage presence no voice
Portnoy has absolutely no groove
Mikey is top 3 rock bassists of all time - change my mind
