A PHOTOGRAPHIC ESSAY
The siege of Leningrad continues through 1942 and life in the great city is becoming very hard for the civilian population.
The two-and-a-half year siege caused the greatest destruction and the largest loss of life ever known in a modern city.Civilians in the city suffered from extreme starvation, especially in the winter of 1941-42. From November 1941 to February 1942 the only food available to the citizen was 125 grams of bread per day, of which 50-60% consisted of sawdust and other inedible admixtures. For about two weeks at the beginning of January 1942, even this food was available only for workers and military personnel.
On 9 August 1942, the Symphony No. 7 "Leningrad" by Dmitri Shostakovich was performed by the Leningrad Radio Orchestra.

A heroic page of history we, the whole world, should never forget, my dear Natasha. The sacrifice of the people during the 872 day siege of this great city under such a terrifying and cruel oppressor is testament indeed to the might of Russia.

Russia in her darkest hour survived. The Nazi Germans were so arrogant then. I see many reckless and dangerous attitudes today in the western nations that constantly go after this God loving country. Good evening Martyn and thank you for your visit and comment. I have never quite understood the reason the "West" have and are always at odds with Russia.... Apart from setting up the iron Curtain after the war to ensure she had satellite states as a buffer to Europe, so she would never be invaded again, Russia has no need to invade Europe. She has resources and land enough for her own needs. The bombastic rhetoric from Nato and its allies is causing more harm than good.

Удивила девушка на высоких каблуках в столь тяжкие времена. Она будто говорит, что жизнь продолжается при любых обстоятельствах , как бы тяжело небыло. Женщина остаётся женщиной , идут концерты , кто-то покупает цветы, кто-то рассматривает афишу , и ничего что мимо провозят ушедшего из жизни , вселенная продолжает жить. Ах эти каблучки!...
