  • My new car. Just a little overview and a quick drive. Doesn't get much better than this as far as compact econobox cars, but I mean that as a complement.

    UPDATE 9/4/2019: I decided to post about this in a comment rather than make a video because I just haven't felt like doing so in years, I've been away from home up until around this time last year. The Escort now has 51,000 miles on it and is still running great with only a couple issues popping up, but also a few that have been fixed. The front and rear quarter panels on the driver side were hit later the same year this video came out but will be repaired eventually. I put new tires on it this year and gave it an alignment at the Toyota dealership I'm working at, and I also had to resurface the front rotors due to some pitting that gave it a really nasty brake pedal pulsation. It now rides better than before and is pleasant enough to drive for extended periods of time. I also installed a trunk release button which wasn't included on this before, I did it by adding in a bypass circuit to the relay that's powered on by the anti-theft module. I even made it look factory by using a button out of a crown vic from the junk yard. Oh yeah, and I took the driver side door and trunk lock cylinders out and rearranged the tumblers so that my ignition key works when the battery goes dead, because previously the remote was the only way to get into this thing. The only issues with it now besides the body work are a cracked radiator and a battery that keeps draining slowly (aka my big motive for modifying the locks like I mentioned earlier). I'll tend to them one day, but this isn't exactly "my" car anymore now that I'm restoring and daily driving another vehicle so that one's getting all the attention. I want to debut that in another video hopefully soon.

      Do be weary of the engine fault: the valve seats will break, usually #4. Destroys the engine, get the cylinder head rebuilt before 125k, or replace the valve seats on all pistons and it will prolong the life of the engine, for another 100k to 125k. Just a heads up, one sign that its about to granade is the engine light coming on the shutting off 5 to 10 minutes later for several weeks at most

    I have one like that one, but mine has standard transmission (5 speed). I bought it in the year 2000 (used). Now I've had it for 20 years and I take good care of it. I'm not planning to ever sell it, because it gives me the service I need. I re-painted it in 2017. I change the oil frequently, it has a lot of miles, more than 200,000 with the original motor. It's been a great car. I plan on re-painting it again soon, fix the air conditioning. I have fun adding features to it to make it more comfortable or functional. Mine is made in Wayne, MI plant, but I bought it in Mexico, where I live.

    Good car, I was just given one to me with 218,000 mi. and it runs and drives great. It's a 5 speed. Gotta be a good car, no rust no leaks, starts right up(even with very weak battery), handles quite well, and the 2.0 is a good engine. stereo has 1 speaker out, but I'm sure I can fix it. These cars in the zx-2 manual were actually quicker than a Miata, and had 4 doors and 4 seats. They get like 35+mpg hwy.

    • @JSW793
      @JSW793  Před 6 lety +1

      I wish I could say I'm still keeping it in good shape. I'm 2,000 miles away from it right now, and in less than a year my older brother backed into it so there's a huge dent right behind the fuel lid, and someone side swiped the front corner so there's a smaller dent around the wheel arch on the same side. I hate my neighborhood.
      I'll get it all fixed eventually after I graduate next year.

    You have a real gem there. Oil change every 3k miles, drive it easy, and replace timing belt and water pump at 120k. I have a 2001 SE daily driver 130k miles and love it to death. Paint is getting pretty bad. By the way, they are pretty noisy and have a lot of rattles but that doesn't bother me. It's very reliable and that's all I care about

    • @JSW793
      @JSW793  Před 6 lety +1

      Timing belt was replaced right before I got it and it'll be getting full synthetic every 5,000 miles when I can come back and maintain it regularly again. Sadly it has been backed into and sideswiped both on the driver side in less than a year since I've been away, so I have that to fix too.

    sound like you need new engine mounts very common on the escort there are 4 of them do them all at the same time go on line and ebay has them 4 in a kit that is the cause of the rattling noise also i read the rad has a leak if you plan on keeping this car for a while fix that rad or it will get worse for get about the pain thats another common problem with the green escort its call fadding all the green escorts do it take care of the more inportant fixes first pain should be put to the bottom of the to do list I have been workning on the escort since 1997 when it came out there still around 95-2003

    • @JSW793
      @JSW793  Před 4 lety

      I have a radiator available for it and will replace it ASAP. Engine mounts were my guess for the vibration but they didn't seem all that bad upon visual inspection, but I may just replace them anyway since they're the original ones and are probably dry rotting by now. Body work may not happen at all, at least not in my possession which isn't for much longer.

      Charles Krengel Yeah I figured someone was going to point that out. My maternal grandparents divorced before I was born and each remarried, so I was referring to his second wife. I should've just said grandmother since I do acknowledge her as such, and the extra information wasn't really important.
