  • At the end of World War 2, there was a German Luftwaffe General who was brought to an execution post/pole for his war crimes. He was sentenced to death for being involved in the aerial bombardment of Belgrade, and he was a very senior member of the German Air Force. He was even given orders during the Battle of Stalingrad to supply by air the German Sixth Army. But this failed, and at the end of the war he was executed in the very city where he inflicted a huge amount of terror.

The Gorla massacre, also known as the bombing of Gorla, was an aerial bombing attack on Gorla, a neighborhood in Milan, Italy, conducted by the United States Army Air Forces in October 19441. During this tragic event, 184 children (known as the “Piccoli Martiri di Gorla”) along with their teachers lost their lives when an Allied air raid struck the entire Milanese district of Gorla

You might got a point, but the Germans had started the war without being attacked and the bombing of Belgrade was not militarily justified but mere retaliation. And yes, most Eastern European trials of that time did not met western standards and often served rather political means.
I would share opinion that especially Britain was not in a good position to extradite or to punish people for air raids.

If the Americans and British had lost the war many of their leaders, starting with Arthur Harris, could have been tried and hung under the exact same justification as this man. In fact American and British murder of innocent civilians by bombing was far worse. The US continues its crimes - 29 countries bombed since WWII with over 5 million civilian deaths. Murder is murder regardless of who does it, or the justification offered.

It seems commenters forgot who started the war. The allies were responding to slaughter and invasion. There is a difference between naked aggression and counter punching by the Allies. The German and Japanese civilian deaths from allied bombing is in their leaders. They started and the Allie’s finished it. Same as the Hamas/Israel war in Gaza. Civilian deaths in Gaza is solely the responsibility of Hamas. Before the massacre: no bombing. After the massacre and rape of men, women and children, civilians are killed in bombs to kill cowardly Hamas using civilians as human shields.
