- Jump starting a lawn tractor from the starter instead of the battery terminals is a great option for bypassing a totally flat battery that makes jump starting a nightmare. Sometimes a battery can die in such away that you just cant pass enough current through your jumper cables to overcome the parasitic draw battery. This video shows you how to simply and easily jump start your mower from the starter.

Perfect info especially for my WolfGarten Alpha 106.220 H with electric grass catcher which has the battery behind the grass catcher. My battery died during the winter and needed power to lift the grass catcher to reach the battery. Its just amazing how they thought about placing the battery there. Anyway, i jumpstarted it like this, then had enough power to use the button to lift the grass catcher and extract the battery for a proper charge. So thank you sir again!

Make sure the battery is either very low or disconnected because you will put too much voltage in the one starter and it will catch on fire or start smoking😅😅 personal experience

You must have bypassed all the safety switches ie interlocks like deck up, seat switch etc to do that

...BTW, if the doesn't charge up after mowing, A GOOD WHILE, will ot hurt to continue to crank it that way??

Would this work to bypass a mower starter that I suspect is bad? Battery is totally good - had that load tested and it was new end of last season. I need to mow and I ran the mower once for a coup,e hours then went back out to do a bit more and had nothing. No click when I turned the key, the hour indicator in the little window won’t even light up when I turn the key - absolutely nothing. Replaced the starter solenoid - that wasn’t the problem. So would this work to start it up if the starter is bad, or is there no way to bypass the starter? Thanks and great easy to follow video!

If my mower still wont crank what should I check? Its turning over now by doing this but still wont start up.
It could be the safety interlocks such as the brake pedal needs to be depressed or parking brake set, the seat has a interlock button to sense if you are in it or not, and check that the mower deck isn’t engaged.
What's it being jumped from? My mom's 6v Craftsman tractor battery is dead & she wondered if we can jump it with a 12v car.
I jumped it with our truck battery all the time

Any idea what it means if the starter spins but doesn't pop up to engage the flywheel
I’m pretty sure that means you need the solenoid
If it just clicks is that the starter or solenoid
Figured out the starter had a broken magnet inside so took it off and started the mower with a drill on the flywheel
@@Trudeauisacommunistnice! Iv done the same thing with my Husqvarna pressure washer! You would think that a lot of company's would come up with a way to start their machines this way! A main reason most women don't cut the grass or weed-eat is because of having to pull that cord. 1,2,3 pulls and their tired! Lol

Something very important to note is that the engine of the car/truck is NOT RUNNING!
Don't start the engine of the car/truck for any reason......the current coming from the running engine will destroy the starter of the lawn tractor..................NEVER start the engine of the car/truck at all when doing any of this.
