I don't know why but now stealing textures just seems so *appealing* to me
I've learned overcast days are great for going for walks, a lack of hard shadows makes collecting pictures for textures really easy.
"You wouldn't download a car"
Well...
I've downloaded and printed a car in 3d.... (granted not in full size but still)... good times :D
The year is 2053, the last stop sign texture is stripped from the planet and imported into Blender
I like this, another!
Why isn't anybody talking that *the aspect ratio is getting smaller with every video!*
For such a task, I like using GIMP's perspective correction tool instead, with "Backward" mode enabled. You highlight a rectangle around your object of interest, press Enter, and it warps it back facing you head-on perfectly. May need to work with aspect ratios a little, but eh.
Technically, it isn't stealing; it's copyright infringement.
Technically the largest form of theft is wage theft; but I don't see small cafe owners being choked to death by the knee of a sub-IQ police officer for shortchanging their staff by $20, so maybe best not get into technicalities unless you're ready to dive deep on the intrinsic amorality of the society we live in, and the very real reality that crime, just like theft money and time are simply constructs we have devised, and have no real objective meaning.
@@peterjessiman7005 He paid with false money, had Suspicious white stuff on him and resisted arrest. "I'm claustrophobic, I cant breath!", says the man being arrested from a tiny car as he was bun in a Big Police car.
@@ErebosGR hahahaha not even close, that would be Tim Sweeney, I highly doubt you even have a clue what marxism really is, and I what I said about theft is a statistical fact, and what insinuated further on is that people are just rationalizing that they are moral, when they arent really at all, its all an illusion created by survival instincts.
Hey cgmatter, if you sponsor yourself you get a free sponsorship and a free advertisement. Think about it.
Dang I gotta be honest, taking a detailed stair texture from a single image has gotta be really useful.
2:48 i don't know why but that "bye by the way this weeks patreons" gets me every time
YOU MISSED THE MOST IMPORTANT PART: *SAVE THE TEXTURE* as an image file, otherwise your theft is wasted. (Image editor -> Image -> Save as)
Why would you do that? You act like you are ever going to close the blender program
tapping into the instagram market, nice move, Carl Grant Matter
This one is still mindblowing years later.
I like your tutorials because they teach me something i didnt need i had to know but something thats really useful to work with from know on.
Like baking textures and stealing them. Thank you CGMatter :)
great vid! U always give very specific info with very broad applications. Really gets people inspired as to what’s possible instead of following someone click 4 click
There is a perspective crop tool in Photoshop which aligns an image according to the shape that you set it and makes it flat.
i stole textures from the ad in the middle of this video. alec baldwin's face is now mine & he'll never know
Office Lense does this automatically, i figured out i could do it with posters shortly after downloading it to take pictures of the whiteboard back in school, also amazing for documents (a lot better if you have a good camera on your phone)
I was at the bank taking a photo of some dirt on a window-sill. A employee asked what i was doing.
"Just robbing you blind."
I love the vibes of this channel, feels like learning how to hack in a cyberpunk movie.
They’re *OUR* textures
"...but we stole it which is cool...." - CG MATTER 2020
XDDDDDDDD
This is a good technique! On a related note, if you're shooting the pictures yourself, and the surface isn't as flat (like a brick wall or a chunky manhole cover, or even a whole building), you can use a slightly different technique. Just use photogrammetry software to align the images and then use that result to bake out your color map. You don't have to bake normal/height/etc maps if you don't need them, you can use it simply as a way to get a better color map. It's also a great way to increase the detail in the texture, especially for big surfaces. The great thing is, if you don't need the mesh the photogrammetry software will produce, you can shoot waaaay fewer images to still get a good color map.
Also, try out different blending modes, such a min or max intensity. These can be really useful for killing highlights or shadows/vignetting in your images.
You can use the Handle tool in Gimp to do the perspective correction.
yOu WoUlDnT sTeAl a TeXtUrE!
One of the best video on this channel
0:25 Bonestripper!!! love that band!!
Texture stealing is one of my favorite activities when I am bored. I should release my 473 textures for free. _or maybe for a couple bucks hmmm yes now were thinking with portals_
a 1000% easier way to do this is to use photoshop to perspective warp the source image so that whatever surface you want to make into a texture is flat/fully facing the camera
Love this style! Very entertaining! Please more!
Apart from everything else, I enjoy the subtle and occasionally extremely un-subtle Bostonness of your videos. (“look under the Hood” was another good one from a recent vid)
Why people dislike this guy..... he steal which is cool
CGmatters is the nipsey hussle of blender
Great and cool....
And thanks for the low speed. Yeah!
Drive whit carefull. ;)
Quality blender tutorials, uploaded at a good enough rate. You deserve more subs than pewdiepie. keep up the great work (also pls upload a bit more pls pls :]
You do this for a whole scene with a camera locked down and boom! It's time to do some sick VFX stuff
My teacher says: "You can steal every program or image or whatever because you're a student and you'll get no profit for any of your works and I'll evaluate as a professional, so you will also get a low grade"
Amazing tutorials, as usual.
Excellent. This solves the problem I have with several bazillion GB of my bad photography I've taken around town. Never can get things aimed straight on. Now I can do whole stone walls and bldg facades.
Oh, and it worked best when I switched the mapping from Window to UV coordinates after applying the baked texture to my material. How could I bake a height map from this texture for use in EEVEE? Thanks. Can't wait for the next video on cylinders. Got tons of tree photos I want to extract the bark from. I can crop/make seamless images in photo editing software, but then the trees in Blender usually look crappy and reptilian, or there are seams I can't get rid of. Thanks again, this is a great technique.
I use the perspective tool in photoshop then import into blender when its good and straight :D
Once again mate, you've been awesome and I've been amazed. Very good. Cheers.
All true artists steal 👍
Amazing content, presentation and editing.
I'm not a blender user but this video is fun lol... Actually, this method seems to be able to applied using other tools.
Neat. That being said, I just do this sort of thing in GIMP. You just use the perspective tool in corrective mode.
Align the four corners to the object, then just clean up (eg, correct the aspect ratio, erase the sky/whatever around something like a stop sign, etc) and export. Done. Takes like 20 seconds, works like magic.
As for stealing... hey, there are plenty of public domain images you can yoink textures from this way. :D
Man you are best, you advice something and im even having such fun to watching your videos :D good job :D
In a parallel channel. "How to make a nuclear bomb, but don't make one yourself"
CGMatter: How to be Ian Hubert.
"Okay, so I got it down to about 30 sentences."
CGMatter : I only need one.
I love this channel.
"Hey mum the internet man gave me another quickie"
Your video is so satisfying to watch lol
why did this man's voice get sexier
That's why I love you CGMatter :D This workflow opens endless possibilities. How to do this procedurally?
Hippity Hoppity your texture is now my property
the chaotic music makes me feel like im hacking the matrix when using blender
I've been cg matter, you've been you, buh-BYE THE WAY THIS WEEK'S SPONSOR
Anything flat, use the nuke cornerpin node. Faster and easier, and just as free
Or just use the perspective crop in photoshop.
The 3d method is better. especially when you get to rounded objects in perspective and such. Works much better the PS.
Thank you CGmatter for being you
i've been me
This is what i call real channel growth
Cg matter 2019 : introduction to blenders UI
Cg matter 2020 : how to steal peoples registration plate informations.
looking good today
2:09 everyone look up the legal term "de minimus" and the Se7en movie lawsuit. basically, the set decorator got a giant pile of photos and put them on the wall for a scene. one of the photographers sued the movie studio for not getting permission. the judge ruled that whether THAT particular photo was present or not, didn't matter to the overall movie, so therefore the suit was not valid.... or something like that.
www.rcfp.org/minimal-appearance-photos-film-insufficient-suit/
That is a mean loophole...
It wasn't just one but several photos and they were visible for 90 seconds.
The judge said that they were out of focus and not easily identifiable (even though the photographer obviously was able to identify them)...
I think the studio's lawyers were too well connected and exploited that loophole.
Now I want 2.76 : 1 aspect ratio!!!!!!
Love the aspect ratio lol
the best thing with cg matter is the comment section.
change my mind
wow, good ♂️music♂️ 😳
Hippity hoppity vine your texture is now mine
wouldnt it be best to do this during an overcast day so all the light is diffuse rather than direct, giving you a cleaner result that doesn't have any specific lighting baked in?
I want that stair texture
he is slowly becoming ian hubert
allright ma guy
Thief : And thank for the texture so i wont have to made them myself ;)
I like sealing.
If it's already published and postdated than you can be in real troubles even more if it's belong to a company. Keep in mind unless it's mentrioned free to use.
wow I love you and this channel
Cg matter is the best
cgmatter: "Ok, don't steal, but if you really want to, here's how:"
No no don't touch me there, this is my square-space!
If you take the pictures yourself or use a CC0 image (which are super easy to find) then you should have no problems
It is not stealing it is like... salvaging especially since you are changing the angle of the image anyway
Your property is now my virtual property
good for natural textures 2
#CGlivesMATTER !!! Remember kid's.. Don't steal.. but steal it if you warp it a bit..
*whole room burns down, pc remains, laughing*
When you entered in the size of the "new texture" how did you know what size to use?
Another way to do this is to import the images into some sort of image editing tool and then convert the images (including paths) to SVG and then import as SVG it in blender. But what do I know, I'm a blender noob.
this was chaotic
im using texture ripper now lol
you are too good to me
“Take a photo by yourself.”
Corona: Am I a joke to you?
Alston wants its local... uh... character(?) back?
i love this man😂
Now I feel like I'm stealing whenever I take pictures
Everyone says Squarespace is the place, but I beg to differ. You need to try Roundspace. It's great.
Do you advocate stealing?
cgmatter: the law requires that I say no
CZcams even moreso!
"You're watching CGMatter, the channel that does not advocate the cool crime of robbery."
Now Squarespace endorses copyright infringement and the collection of personal information, like license plates. lol
I'mma the 1k liker man🤯
