    The Europeans, and by extension the Americans, have this colonial, imperialist mindset based on their 500 years of global dominance (Portugal, Spain, Netherlands, France, Germany, Great Britain, United States of America).
    China, on the other hand, has never been a colonial power in its 5,000 years of history as a civilisation state. Since 1979, China has risen from total impoverishment to the world's largest economy by purchasing power parity in only 35 years. And China did it without firing a shot! No other world power has grown so large, so quickly, and so peacefully.
    So it is no surprise that China is working towards multipolarity and a peaceful world order based on economic development and common prosperity.

    TTo compete with China's BRI for influence around the world, the U.S. launched its $4 trillion Build Back Better World (B3W) 3 years ago (2021) to build basic infrastructure needed by developing countries by 2035. Responding to the U.S. largesse, the E.U. chipped in with its own very impressive €300 billion Global Gateway (GG) initiative to help the Global South.
    Unfortunately for lesser nations around the globe, no one mentioned B3W or GG ever since. The suggestion from Stephen Brawer of the Swedish Belt and Road Institute to the West to join China's BRI is but an unrealistic proposition given the dire situation facing the economies of all Western nations ever since the proxy war on Ukrainian soil. Besides, the West with the U.S. as its leader never intends to help poor countries to stand on their own feet as they defined China's BRI as "debt traps" when talking about it. It is a mockery the West came up with their own debt traps with B3W and GG which in effect became lip services and a laugh of the world. Really pathetic!

  • @3066jc
    @3066jc Před 3 měsíci

    I do not understand why those Nations does not want their own citizens to live better- through multi-national cooperation. The Belt and Road initiative is just basically that. Better infrastures, opens up markets and economies, creating substancial employments all round which is an effective mean of getting out of poverty. With a peace of mind of permanent or stable employment, people can become more educated which innovate future technology - e.g. desert greening, fresh water retention, advance farming techniques, advance medical science, computing, etc... All these required monies as their engines and B&R offer this vital need. Why spend huge amount of monies in war which is deterimental to human lives and the planet! Why not spend it on constructive issues that benefit mankind! Our major enemy is the Planet's pollution and the ever decreasing Resources: all Nations should work together to address these problems rather than threatening each other with wars and sanctions. With innovation and talents, we should have a better future! Forty years ago, nobody would believed that China can rise up and I remembered that the saying then(in the UK then)- ' If it is made in China, don't buy it! ' How the World has changed and it is continuing changing ! A smart Nation should make its decision based on the greatest benefit for its own people with ethic in mind!

      The west doesn't have to borrow money for double the world bank interest so the west doesn't want to join. All countries that has joined have corruption problems that the Chinese take advantage of. Pay corrupt leaders enough money under the table and they will accept anything. Unfortunately, the Belt and Road Initiative has flopped financially in almost every country where it has been implemented viz. Pakistan - it needs to find another (better) way forward.

    The company I worked for had a good year and paid for a trip to Shanghai for our 200 employees. 95% came back and said that they had been cheated at least once while in Shanghai. From this fact, which I experienced myself, I conclude that the Chinese cannot be trusted in any way. Joining the belt and road initiative or any other business venture is not recommended.
