This car came to me after failing the MOT due to the rear lights not working...
A quite common problem on this ones, and on this video, something really strange as the cause of the problem, plus some bonus repairing!

good morning luis that water mark you pointed out is a fill level indicator mark for the SAM and that stands for Sunk And Mouldy i lke a challenge but 10 hours plus that sam would be flying down the garden as hard as i can throw it ps talking is the way you get the process across how you think and then repair so no you dont talk to much and THANK YOU for the video

Honestly I'd recommend changing those taillight seals with the updated version from Mercedes on every W164. Even the on the Mopf/Facelift variant I've seen them leak (though they moved the rear Sam under the back seat there).

Hi I have 2007 ml63 amg. Rear taillight passenger side it’s not shutting off break light and taillight
Get a new SAM…I had the exact same problems with water penetration and it took out my pump to lift tailgate and SAM. Stupidly I haven’t taken out rear taillights to reseal but have them on order.

I believe the board has overcurrent circuit protection...

Inspect the loom than runs from the A pillar to the door for broken wires...
If you have a scanner, scan the car first, that should help you pin point the issue slightly better...

With these junk mercedes, always start and trace the light that's out. Things like brake lights coming on when a side light goes out is sort of normal. Codes will tell you if a replacement light is being used. I feel your pain though with getting it working then it failing again. I always now get the customer to get a module. Not worth the time and effort - especially for a trader 😉 Peugeot have an even better idea on some models, if a number plate light isn't working at ignition on, the BSI will flash the corresponding brake light 3 times then disable the brake light totally. How you can see this from the drivers seat I do not know. They say this is for safety 🙄 Obviously, to the French, no brake light is safer than just leaving the number plate out.

On cars with sunroofs Clogged drains more than likely the cause for water ingress. Tail lamps too.

Still have one to repair of a mb,can't repair it and customer don't want to pay 600eu for used one
the car was repaired (an accident, hit on that side), if not, Mercedes should bear the cost (at least in parts, seal, module, hydraulic pump)
When you think it's fixed and job is done , it's only the begining 😂 don't worry it happens all the time for me too😢

Start by dry the rear sam area... fix the leak, open the sam and clean it...

@LM Auto Repairs after following your directions, all working perfectly. Only way I am struggling to find leak but cannot find, I ended up using lot of almunium tape around the sam to protect from water.

Usually leaks from the tail lights...
New foam seals solves the problem...

My 2007 ml350 had a bad Sam unit in the rear I got a used one but problems still exist. Probably need to be flashed. But I’m pissed Mercedes didn’t give me the new gaskets stupid
