You nailed it on this one, sounding a lot like Eddie Trunk when he commented on it, right down to how irrelevant Rolling Stone and the so-called “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame”! Modern day “journalism” is so bad…

FINALLY!! ... Someone in these rants mentions George Lynch. Thank you!

In the article they mentioned that their previous top 100 lists were derived by talking to guitarists and music producers.
And they end up with a list of 100 classic rock (60s - 70s) players who are overwhelmingly American or British white men with little diversity, buy they always reserved 20% for Female players, from the 60s and 70s)
There were almost no players post 70s on these lists.

It is a total shame. The list is as bad as the magazine has become.
      What a joke, right?
I guess that is why no one subscribes to Rolling Stone any more.

Also, I agree with other people's replies to you . I would mention Frank Marino and Gary Moore as both are highly technical and iconic live .

Gary Moore wasn't in there?? WTH??

Right on Buzzz. Frankly, I am quite shock they are still around in any format, let alone anyone who would read their articles or ratings. And to think the list is of 250 and the greats you mentioned are not. I couldn't bare to try to see that list and find Taylor Swift on it or something. Sign of the times and just wondering what was their purpose of creating article such as this with no validity. I just glanced one time when curious about guitar rankings and remember on this so called Top 250 guitarists list was Joan Jett and P.J. Harvey! 'Nuff said. I guess in all fairness, this solidifies if there is a top 100 magazine list of all times, I do not expect this trash one to be listed!

If someone needs Rolling Stone to tell them what guitarists are the best, that person should NOT be a musician. I trust my ears only.

    • @buzzzmiller
      @buzzzmiller  Před 11 měsíci

That is very true. I trust my ears and my heart.
However, for us old dudes, Rolling Stone used to be the standard for music. It put music in print when that wasn't a thing. We found out about new artists in Rolling Stone. We trusted their insight and their reviews. Before there was a guitar magazine, there was Rolling Stone. I guess it is just sad to see something fall so far that they don't even remember why they became a thing in the first place. Kinda like admitting to ourselves that our good friend isn't around anymore.

The Rolling Stone top 250 most popular guitarists in the US.
Next issue will be the most popular 250 vegetables in the US.
I look forward to that issue.

Just as long as they don't put broccoli at #1. I swear, broccoli gets votes - just because.

May I make this commitment on what you would say the requirements are...
You say people will have to recognize their songs....
People listen ti different types of music. Milenials and Gen Z types are not going to recognize any Beatles Songs, Police songs, Jazz songs, etc.
Just because you recognize a song doesn't mean everyone else has.
Let me give you a few quick names
Yngwie Malmsteen, AL DiMeola, Alan Holdsworth
You and I may know these names but a wider audience won't.
If you're not into Jazz Blues or Classical no matter how good you are there will be wide swaths of the population that do not know your songs.
So this cannot be the qualification, fame/popularity does not mean best or greatest.

Yeah. On this video, I just fired up the camera and "wung it." I probably should have planned it out better. Also, I was supposed to talk about Allan Holdsworth, and forgot. (Among others.) But with everyone else doing the same video, I felt no need to go back and re-record and edit.
With my channel right now - you really get what you pay for. :D
Once I am in my new studio, I promise to put out better content.

The criteria is all wrong, song writers don't necessarily make great guitarists. If your looking at guitarists only 50% of there list would have gone.

    Here are the songs
Lovebites Scream for Me live Daughters of the Dawn
And Versailles Aristocrats Symphony live Holy Grail
Please check them out and tell me who can play like these 4 people

Just the fact that these were live and sounded that tight and clean. That is some serious talent. And I love the Holy Grail drummer and some of his variations. Really great stuff. Thanks for the heads up on that one.
