    My parents & I went to visit Orford Castle after we did Framlingham Castle. On the 10th August this year.
    I've remembered, at both the castles in glass cases for museum show were Constables Wooden Batons.

      Haha the footage from reenactments such as Hastings, Evesham, Barnet, and Tewkesbury certainly do come in handy when I need to show what a typical battle or soldier would look like from that period

    At Framlingham Castle, I show my dad a video on CZcams of 2010 Robin Hood.
    Attack on a castle in France.
    Leather bags being hooked up on the wooden portcullis of the castle, and the arrow heads get fire lit to be shot at the bags to explode.
    During the Regin of His Majesty King Richard the 1st. The Lionheart.
    Set in the year of 1199 A. D.

    Great video. Just wondered what your source was for covehithe being a port?

    • @AlexTheHistoryGuy
      @AlexTheHistoryGuy  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Good question! The "hithe" in Covehithe means Quay or Quayside, where vessels would load & unload. We have found remnants of a Roman road which suggests it was important to the Romans, as well as Saxon finds including a dug-out canoe which suggests it was a continuously important settlement. Finally, the parish church is dedicated to St. Andrews who was the patron saint of calm seas and steady sailing - something that superstitious merchant sailors would deem as very important!
