I just have one question I like the technology and innovation of Zeiss lenses but base on the reviews I have read there is only one down side of Zeiss eye lenses the coating easily peels off compared to other lenses brand like Hoya and Essilor. Base on your own experience does the coating really peels of after a few months or a years and what have Zeiss done to address this issue?

    • @thespectaclefactory
      @thespectaclefactory  Před rokem +2

      Hey! Thank you for your support. Zeiss have 3 different AR coatings (for plastic lenses) - Lotutec, Duravision Silver and Duravision Platinum. Lotutec is quite outdated nowadays, and yes I have had issues with this coating. Silver I have literally never used. Platinum seems pretty good, and comes with a good warranty if it does fail.
      But I think Hoya are ahead of everybody else when it comes to coatings. I've been to their facility and the tests they do are second to none.

What do you think I should go for?

      FreeForm is a manufacturing technique, which makes lens designs such as SmartLife possible. So your question is like asking 'is there a big difference between a micro chip and a computer?'

    I never thought there was much difference between one brand or another since it is difficult for me to compare an older pair of glasses with a new prescription. My last pair were made with Zeiss. And they were the best glasses I owned in more than 50 years
    A few months after picking them up I had an accident that broke the drill mount frames, the lenses survived, but to my surprise the lenses were unusable!
    My new pair are from a different glass shop and they use essilor lenses….perhaps it’s their lab techs inexperience, computer glitch, the poor sales attitude or some other thing but I’m not impressed with the smaller field of view and lack of overall quality of the optics…several pinholes have appeared on the eye side of one lens that look like a flaw in the the coating

    About six months later, in your video "Lens Brand Tier List - Who Makes the BEST Spectacle Lenses???", you put Nikon lenses in the SD tier and Kodak in VHS (lowest) tier, so how are both of these brands (especially Kodak) "excellent quality"? At 5:44 of that video you say "Don't get me wrong, Seiko make good quality lenses". About Kodak, at 9:49 you say "instant VHS tier" and at 10:13 "definitely VHS tier".
    Also, you say that Zeiss SmartLife Lenses are, in your view, "for most people the best choice" but there are three lens types within that range (Single Vision, Digital and Progressive) and even after choosing lens type there are between 2-4 options, depending on which lens type you choose. Would you consider doing a video that looks at all of these in more detail?
