Trying London's ICONIC Steakhouse in NYC! Hawksmoor Revisited

- While NYC is known for its steakhouse culture, London is also a great steak city. New York's rival city across the pond is similar to NYC in many ways, and one way it is similar is London also has a great appreciation for dry-aged beef! The most famous and best steakhouse in London, many say, is Hawksmoor. Hawksmoor in London has since far expanded its original location, with locations all over the UK now. It has found its way to NYC as well, and despite NYC being such a powerhouse for great steaks, many people say Hawksmoor is as good as the best steakhouses in NYC!
We have actually reviewed Hawksmoor before on this channel, First time, we ordered the Hawkmoor rump steak, which was well-priced but it was not impressive. It lacked even sear and was under-seasoned. The famous Hawksmoor sticky toffee pudding was also quite disappointing. However, many of you have since commented and told me that I did not order the right items, and Hawksmoor is actually excellent if you order the right stuff, so this time around we ordered the porterhouse and they even threw in some fries as well!
Is London's best steakhouse really all it's cracked up to be? Or is it overrated hype mostly due to over-glorification of London? We'll find out together!

Btw I think the fries were not gifted but rather a mistake, as they gave me the wrong receipt initially at the end. Hooray free fries!
If it's free it's for me I'll take 3.
@@surfstarcc1Don't be greedy.
Definitely should try Jeff Ruby's Steakhouse you'll thank me later they are ranked as the best Steakhouse in America and someone of the best service you'll get at any restaurant.
@uaeats would like you to do Cote, which is hard to get into (but apparently amex platinum's concierge actually can help get reservation). I have not tried it, but its a michelin star korean BBQ place that people describe more as steak house meets korean BBQ. The 68$ butcher's feasst is one of the top recommended meals on r/FoodNYC subreddit.
asks to have steak cut for him, complains about how the steak is cut 😂 this dude is pure comedy
lol
tbf that slice is definitely off lol
7:15 a porterhouse consists of a filet and a new york strip, not a sirloin
He corrected later in video
He just misspoke. He described it correctly both before and after that.
another great video! I swear for some reason, your videos are addicting! I think because youre a simple humble guy who just reviews not just famous eateries but luxurious dining and expensive steakhouses all for us to one day visit while we try to see if its the worth the budget. No show and fancy editing, but just being yourself who has a passion on visiting restaurants all over the world.
I think you nailed it, he is low key good at editing and producing, also his facial reactions are unique lol
That's why I watch. I like his approach and you can spend 15 to 20 minutes not worrying about other things going on in the world.
Absolutely correct about anchovies and Caesar salad. Regrettably, most Caesar salads have become a mix of mayo, vinegar and Parmesan.
And there is as we know even more to that tasty dressing.
No one cuts a steak lovers steak! Blasphemy!
We loved Hawksmoor! There are a bunch of comments on our video from people who are surprised we disagreed with you, so we're looking forward to seeing if things were any different this time around!
Yep and in my video many people disagreed with my opinion. Always down to give places second reviews!
@@uaeats Oh really! I feel like we've gotten a lot of comments from people saying they didn't like it. Also I really hope you tried the Peanut Butter Louis, that thing was crazy
I’m glad I know how to cook. Jeez, $110 for a 20oz porterhouse? I can buy four of those bad boys and cook/enjoy for days. Glad you enjoyed your dine out!
I'm a New Yorker and haven't tried Hawksmoor in the city yet, but their London Spitafields restaurant was fantastic. Definitely a cut above most NYC steakhouses and far less expensive. Keep up the great work and looking forward to your review of Hawksmoor in London.
As a Brit everytime I go to nyc I'm shocked how expensive eating out and boardway is compared to uk
Amazing city through
UA, you do a great job. Like your style, keep it up !!
Great review!
Your spot on review !
Rookie move with the pre - sliced steak action. I’d say about twenty percent lost in moisture , heat and flavor.
Nice job buddy headed there in two weeks down in New York appreciate it
I love when waiters say somthing is their favorite. Literally eveything is their favorite on the menu. Even the water.
That porterhouse looked fantastic! I wish more restaurants served steaks by the ounce.
In London, please please please eat at St. John. One of the best meals I have ever had in my life and a pilgrimage for foodies.
Yes indeed and have the roast bone marrow. Special place
Excellent video
Nice Review Brother 👍🏼👍🏼
Great review and safe travels to the UK! Would you ever consider going on a cruise and you could do multiple food reviews there? I think it would be right up your alley
that anchovy hollandaise sounds funky!
I love your content by why are you revisiting restaurants when there are so many options to go to.
👍🏻Hi UA keep it man love your Chanel
Will you eat jellied eels for us when you hit London?
Don't do it!!
Nice work! your slowly becomming the Steak guru! like dave on pizza and keith on southern UA GOT BEEF! has a ring to it lol
Hey UA, I love your videos and have been a fan for a minute now,I am from Gloucester City NJ but live in the outskirts of Seattle now and hear how you talk about being from the South Jersey area and see you rocking the Eagles gear, whereabouts are your SJ roots? Ps keep up the great videos I love them and am rooting for your success
Congrats on the free fries! On a totally unrelated note, I thought you would be interested to hear that Katz’s Deli & Veselka have teamed up on a limited-time creation: Pastrami Pierogis - I thought this might be up your alley!
Watch the video that Eater did on Hawksmoor from a few years ago. It’s an excellent look into what goes into the restaurant.
Have you ever ordered a rib eye? IMO think it’s a better cut.
I think he has over 10 ribeye videos in his collection. It’s his favorite cut.
Looked fantastic
Finally he’s traveling over seas thanks UA
The look on your face at 7:33-7 tells us all we need to know 😂😂. Definitely checking this place out!
Wait, l thought after viewing the menu at Spark's we agreed no to sliced steak, but judging your reaction after the first bite..I'll reconsider 😂. Keep up the great work UA!
Try Strip House. Would love to see your review of it!
Best steakhouse in NYC for my money. Doesn’t get as much hype as others but every bite of food I’ve had from that place is 10/10.
@uaeats definitely try Strip House and make a review
UA complained about the bread, but it looked pretty good to me.
🤔
Good one. I’ve not been back to Hawksmoor for a while.
That porterhouse look like it was cooked perfectly all the way through. 👍
Hope you're reviewing Fallow!
A restaurant of this caliber serving Caesar in that small bowl is silly, unless it was chopped. Are you really expected to cut it with a knife and fork in that bowl?
Great review. WHen are you in London? I am in the UK, and heading to NYC in June, My choice of steakhouise based on your reviews is now either Keanes or Hawksmoor. I did Lugers on my last trip. For Hawksmoor in London, there are many locations in Central London. I think it's a great eatling house, the cocktails are great too.
Looks good. 👍
That is perfect meal👍
Great review! I’ve been to this place 4-5 times and the steak never blew me away, solid of course but I wouldn’t put It in my top 5 of steakhouses in NYC, maybe I have been ordering the wrong cut bc I usually go with a ribeye and not a tbone. The dining room itself is my fav in NYC and the service is great so my feelings about this place are mixed.
My girlfriend and I still laugh about when UA said the steak tastes like something you would get at ShopRite.
Goodmans steakhouse and Blacklock steakhouse in London are amazing, blacklock do a fantastic Sunday roast too
In London try
1. Quality chop house
2. Berners Tavern
3. Mangal 2....have their Cul Yaw chop
4. Manteca
Enjoy.....if you want a burger, go to Burger and Beyond. They`re the best.
I used to get anchovy olive pizzas in uni… never had to share with dorm mates 😂
In london i recommend hawksmore goodman gaucho and the guinea grill for steak
Also you havr to try a indian over here
My favourite steakhouse in London is 'The Beast', it's from the same owner as 'Goodman'. Very different experience though. Goodman City (Old Jewry street) is my favourite branch and similar to Hawksmoor. Please also review Smith and Wollensky in London, the NYC one blew me away and the London branch never did.
For your London trip, Smiths of Smithfield is pretty legendary and worth a visit.
Even though you've visited before, I think some viewers didn't see you previous video. So, they would probably enjoy seeing a full menu walkthrough, even if you've already done that.
@uaeats I've been to Hawksmoor lots of times (been to the Seven Dials location in London too). Their best cut is the bone-in rib chop (NON grass-fed version). The porterhouse is good, but not as great as the very best places in NYC in my experience.
Give Flat Iron a go in London. Excellent value.
Am I the only one that's screaming to his screen ....TRY THE SAUCE !!!😂😂😂😂
Hey UA. You should try Rules or Wilton's in London.
"I was the weird kid..." That probably applies to your subscribers too.
Everyone’s a little weird bro!
Hey!! That's not...... nevermind
You must go back again. Try the bone marrow appetizer and get a chateaubriand steak. That cut is hands down the best.
Anchovy Pizza for the win!!
Hey UA you should try Gotham social burger in NYC. Seen a lot of reviews saying it’s the best. Curious to see ur take!
Was there a couple of months ago.
The thing with a lot of these newer places is that they put loads of stuff on the burger and it takes away from the taste of the actual burger.
Also, they are smashed so only cooked one way.
Nice setup just like Hamburger America. Very so-so burger.
2.5/5 for me!
When you go to London UA give ikoyi a try. Super popular steakhouse in London run by the chef Jermy Chan.
That was interesting UA. Didn’t look that great especially for the price but it was interesting. Looks like a great atmosphere.
Min Jiang in London has very good Peking duck. be curious to see your opinion on it. I haven't been since 2019, so things may have changed
UA greetings from Las Vegas 🎲
I went to one of the London locations, I thought it was really good. Their Caesar salad was great (I didn't get anchovies on it) and it was huge. My brother got a ribeye and said it was really good. I think the bread here is different. The bread at the London one, I think, had a firmer crumb and almost reminded me of a ciabatta. I thought it was very good restaurant bread. They gave you really tiny drinks, though and their ice cream scoop was very small, so some of the stuff was overpriced for what you got. However, I liked the food.
Generally go for 2 sided and a starter with the steak at Hawksmoor. Prices in NYC seems significantly more expensive than London branches.
you should try the guinea grill
When in London you MUST visit The Cut - 45 Park Lane.
The 14oz ribeye with fries and spinach and egg to be tasted to be believed!
Wolfgang Puck does it right at this place.
Oh snap bro is coming to london town.
Try Goodmam. They tend to be weird with their temperature system. “Med rare minus” is the sweet spot for me.
Anchovies: My Dad's favorite combo was black olive, onion, and anchovy.
Steak looks slightly overcooked. More medium than medium rare.
UA go to Hill and Szork in London. It's banging
Half the items you are paying through the nose for a talented home cook can make at home for 1/4 of the price. $12 for a Caesar salad?
Thank you Captain Obvious.
@@johnjohnmcclane1818 That was unnecessarily aggressive/ ignorant
@@worldsgreatestimpressionis6462
Naw, ignorant is bitching about the prices of a fine dining steak house in NYC. 12 bucks for a salad is down right reasonable in that context
I think it's actually a good idea to re-review some restaurants from time to time because you can let folks know if they have improved or fallen off.
I'm pretty forgiving when it comes to steaks (most are good enough for me), but I do know that I don't like them cut up in the kitchen before being brought to the table. Don't they lose their heat faster if cut into small pieces?
If you are a steak lover and decide to go fancy steakhouse, these fattier cuts are a no brainer. That rump steak from the first episode looks like an instant regret lol. Actually surprised with the lack of sear on that porter house. Glad it turned out great !
I hope you go to St John’s when you go to London.
Another great review, UA, I guess you had no "beef" this time around
Maybe they knew this was my second review so the stakes/steaks were high
@@uaeats🤣 holy heLL
Butter jokes, yes please!
UA When can we buy some merch?
UA: I ate at Hawkmoor in London some years ago & at the NYC loction about 5 years ago! To be candid, I was not overly impressed with either location. You know my favorites in NY C are Keens &;Quality mests. In London, for me it's The Quality Steak House.! Don’t forget to order the potato confit😅
Went to the one in Seven Dials in London a few years ago and it was so bad we complained, had another steak cooked, and that was 50% fat so they'd chosen that specifically for us, complained again and got it comped. My mate may have mentioned he worked for Google, and it was fortunate he was out with friends. They told us they'd comp a future meal to make it up to us. Went back months later and they ruined that £100+ steak too. Came to the conclusion that they can't cook steak, as they couldn't manage it on 3 occasions, and people are easily pleased by low standards. So pleased that it's now international.
Consider an iPhone for better low light correction
go to dhisoom in london! my fav indian food
Hawksmoor in London and Manchester were great.
Try the bone marrow, goes great with bread. Not super tasty, but the fatty texture is quite an experience, for sharing, may be too much fat for one person as an appetizer.
Be safe on your trip to the U.K. UA.... Try Chicago style steak sometime (get it undercooked they put it directly on the coals)
When Joe Rogan had Elon Musk on his show they ordered a double anchovy double pineapple pizza maybe you can do a review of that one day just make sure you explain the backstory
Not The Same Steak's At All!
Their steaks are grass finished and my favorite in the city!
Go to Goodmans in London. It is by far the best. There are a few locations
So you like the sirloin side better! You didn't fondle the bread to much this time .. 😂
anchovies on pizza: I guess because they are expensive, places usually don't pile them on. But on the positive side, a little goes a long way, in terms of taste, probably because of the saltiness. I like them.
Anchovies are delicious on pizza
Not overly impressed with this place. So many better options out there. Especially at that price point.
Yeah!! You don’t ever order a rump steak if you’re trying out a steakhouse for the first time you always order a ribeye or a porter house steak!!
Hey U.A. Eatery, what is the most RECENT update on issues with "Mad Cow" syndrome with the cattle in England ?!? 🔜. 🥩. 🤯. BTW - Is it phriggin' "out of bounds" OR "Off The Hook" ?!? May we strenuously suggest the latter fella' ?!? 🤔
To the dude ragging on the $12.00 Caesar salad at any other as upscale steakhouse you easily if your lucky $18.00-$20.00 and UA loved it if and when I go there I’m dying to try that Caesar salad .
What happened to the old timey piano music, think it's been gone on the past couple of videos, miss that. I hear the new softer mellow background tone.
Nobody misses that
I'm kinda sick of all the background music he uses lol
Call me a red neck, but I much rather have a well balanced fatty hamburg patty vs an expensive cut of steak.
You do condemn things before you eat them ! Just taste first perhaps! 😂
Slightly blurry video . Good review 👍
The filet Min Yung looks relatively small imo.
I have heard that the original Hawksmoor in London is actually better than the New York City restaurant. Enjoy it!
Being from Spain I gotta say there is nothing wrong with anchovies.
.
