This simple instruction has made it possible for me to resurrect my clubs out of storage and actually get out on the course playing this game I love. You rock big time. Can't thank you enough.

    Probably the best swing lesson ever on CZcams. Teaching the swing broke down in actions and then adding the body should increase every golfers speed and create an anti slice path. The most difficult issue in teaching someone is how the club head turns in the swing. It also reenforces trusting the swing opposed to guiding it down the target with an open face which leads to weak high right shots. I recommend everyone take this to the range before a round of golf. Kudos Eric. You not only understand the swing, you can relate the swing to the average person.

    To be honest, I think this is one of the most essential lessons about the golf swing in general. Everywhere you turn it’s “swing with the body” “quiet arms and hands” but just with this information, I feel that I can make decent contact no matter how my body is moving that day.

    I'm 48. One year into this crazy game. The other day on the driving range, a guy who is older than me asked if he could offer me some tips. He suggested I was maybe attempting to use too much body, not enough flinging of the arms. He complemented my hand-eye coordination, and said to just go for it with a bit more arm - just fling that sucker as I get to the bottom of the swing (I was out of balls, so I had to wait until the next time).
    The next time I was at the driving range (yesterday), I focused on a nice controlled backswing using my whole body, then just "flung" away on the downswing. Yesterday was my best day ever at the driving range.
    Great video! (Not all of us are going to be tour players, and could probably be a little more realistic about the type of swing we're working toward).
    This video is basically a perfect reference / guide for me. Thank you!!!

    Eric, I have been using this exact swing my whole life. I am a little guy, in my 60's, and I can hit it almost as far as I did when I was a young 30 something! I learned this swing in 1972, and I will always be grateful to Ron, the teaching pro at Deerpath GC in Lake Forest Illinois. The first thing that he showed me was that I hit the ball with just a slinging motion of my arms and hands while my feet were together. This was my introduction to the golf swing. Although I have never been a scratch golfer, my handicap has never been higher than five for fifty years, with no golf injuries! I believe it is because I learned to swing the club in the way you have described in this wonderful video. I would like to add that Harvey Penick also taught a "magic move' the echoes what you are teaching here.

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  Před 3 lety

    • @rm00k
      @rm00k Před 3 lety +1

      Harvey's magic move didn't have anything to do with slinging the arms, more a simultaneous movement of the weight onto the forward leg and bringing the trail elbow to the side. Still, a good support of the slinging of the arms.

    Eric, before I “knew how to play” the club would sometimes hit me in the back on my follow through. I was never sure where the ball would end up but I was hitting rockets. Now that I have “learned how to play”, as in using my body to generate speed my finish is much shorter and so is the distance achieved. Sling is the operative word. Master the static positions, get a good grip then sling that damned thing.

Since the body should act like a break allowing the hands and arms to whip through impact, your method mimics that. I have also begun to feel as if I am pulling the club down through impact while doing this and it feels like much faster club movement.

      Hi Eric,
      I got fitted for a new driver today, Swinging about 95 to 97 mph. Hitting 240-250 yard carry with 270 - 280+ yards total with the right driver and shaft fitting. Went from the Cobra SZ to Titleist tsi 3 with Hazardous smoke shaft . Very forgiving driver for my heel hits.

    Hey Eric. Like these videos where you show numbers. What loft is your driver? I play a g410 turned down to 7.5° and get a high launch with too much spin (3-4k). I hit up but pretty sure I deliver more loft dynamically. Would like to see more driver videos where maybe you talk about driver impact, etc. I'd love to bring my flight down.
    Might be a ball position issue since I like it a little more forward but this video makes me want to try the three steps like this with "arms first" feel.

    Hey Eric. Great job on these videos. I love your channel! So being "almost" a senior, turning on the backswing seems a little more restricted than it could be. So I was in the back yard today with some practice balls and a 4 iron. I know 4 iron can be a tough club to hit for some. So when I was hitting it really well, that was a good sign.
    So here's what I did. I took my normal setup. Next I drew the right foot (back foot) back to close the stance. I brought the club back inside the line as the closed stance allowed me to do (and makes it a lot easier). Then I discovered something. And I'm wondering if this is related to Hogan's comment where he said he wished he had 3 right hands..... So with the closed stance I found I couldn't turn fast enough in the downswing and my body literally couldn't "go left". In other words no matter how fast I turned, when I turned, my body "faced" the target at the end of a balanced follow through. I could not face left of target if I tried... physically. So I found that I was not only hitting the ball straight and solid, but I could turn as fast as I wanted and really "thrash" the ball and it was being hit real solid. The turn was the kind that swept the grass real nice and along the target line. So if I didn't "turn hard", I think my shots would have gone to the right. And this is where I was wondering how so many seniors have ugly looking swings but they hit the ball 250 down the middle.. they all turn hard. Maybe the closed stance was getting my backswing into an ideal "backswing slot"??? Your thoughts?

    Eric, great drill, but I have a question for you. What are your thoughts on the right wrist action? You are rolling it over in this drill. What are your thoughts on flapping the right wrist up (Steve Pratt), rather than rolling it over? What I have found is that flapping the right wrist up prevents excessive curvature to the left. Thoughts? Thanks for all you do.

    I go back and forth on this alot. I hook the ball and one of the ways I prevent that is with a body swing that the arms are just along for the ride. Wanting to experiment with more of a slinging feeling where centrifugal force is slinging the arms through impact. I know that isn't what you are talking about here but this really seems to exaggerate the hook for me.

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  Před rokem +1

      100%.....this would exaggerate the hook for sure.
      But to keep in mind for this message and who it's for...
      80% or more of the senior golfers we work with struggle with a fade miss.
      So they want LESS FADE....(more hook)....and more distance.
      So for them the sling the arms is good ya know
      If you already hook you would want less or this and more body......or......you could still feel the arms but add in more body with it.
      So it doesn't have to be one or the other....can be some amount of both

  • @essoteric
    @essoteric Před 2 lety +1

    Great video. So, the longer the club, the more hand speed is required, given the same amount of body rotation? i.e. The wedges require mostly body rotation and less arm speed because its the shortest club, and drivers require the most hand speed with body rotation because they are the longest?

So, I just went back to my old swing (Trevino clear the left hip style OUCH) but I've broke 80 my past 4 rounds and it doesn't hurt anymore ! ( so much :)

    Isn't it true that slinging the arms is an essential part of all good full swings? In my own swing, I find slinging my arms really hard to do consistently because I end up trying to hit the ball with my shoulders. Thank for giving us a drill for slinging the arms properly.

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  Před 3 lety

      Hey Robert! Yes! The arms MUST "sling" eventually. The timing of that and degree depends some by about 45* past impact to target is where you SEE the arms slinging generally (depends on the body movements)
