It's a really awful, mean joke, especially because someone actually died. But, it's not like Kyle did anything uniquely horrible and in the video Jack's shown on stage laughing along with him. No one really cared except shrill pearl clutchers in the far-right and Jack decided they were the voice of reason.

I did cue cards for Conan in 2003-04. The first guest I held cards for was Jack in a "In the Year 2000" sketch. He hosted SNL that weekend and I did cards for that too. Got to hang with him and Chapelle at the SNL wrap party at 40-40 club and both were nice as all hell. Love this man.

Jack was right there laughing about the joke. He didn’t denounce it in that moment. They both apologized later and decided to take a break from the tour. That was the right thing to do. But then Jack decided he still wanted money so he threw Gass under the bus and acted like he had nothing to do with it. He should have stood by his friend and BOTH of their apologies should be accepted not just his.
