    Hi Joel, thanks for taking the time to produce your T4 videos, they've become one of my 'go to' guides as I restore my 2001 VW T4 800 special. I took my front wings off last weekend cleaned out inside and installed the drainage kit I bought from eBay, your videos were incredibly helpful. Amazingly the wheel arches and inside the wings were almost rust free even though there was a load of damp T4 special Kompost in there! One thing worth mentioning, my front wings were bonded on (pretty sure this was factory panel sealer) as well as bolted and were a complete pain to get off. I had to cut the panel bond and then pour a couple of kettles worth of boiling water between the wing and inside panel to soften the panel sealer, then pull the wing off. It doesn't look like your wings had this sealer so maybe they'd been off before. Anyway, thought that might help someone else who has to do the same job. Thanks again.

      From one 2001 800 special owner to another, thanks for the tip about the panel sealer! Was a great heads up. Boiling water was a nifty trick!

      @@EntheogenMusic no worries, glad my comment was helpful. Usually every job on my T4 takes roughly 3 times as long to complete as the CZcams video shows and a good helping of swearing...so it's nice to help someone else out in the same situation!

    G'day thanks for the vid.
    I just did my 99 and that bloody metal tab on the grille was screwed in possibly from a prior accident fix.
    For this situation take the bumper off first then rhs headlight top bolts, then rhs fender as per vid to get to the screw, then grill comes out etc.
    I'd collected enough compost for a plant pot!
    If you park under any sort of conifer you need to clean them out every couple of years.

    The plastic bracket with the plastic clips are to be loved, just push the centre right through and the plastic bracket unclips with an easy pull. If you lose the centres a plastic golf tee does the job when replacing.

    • @JoelsStuff
      @JoelsStuff  Před 3 lety

      Hi Les. It’s funny you should ask because just yesterday I removed the wing to have a look at it. Sadly it looks like the leaves are still finding their way behind the wing - they must get down the gap near the door. The drainage kit still works perfectly well to drain water, but if you buy one similar to mine it will not stop the leaf build up 🙁

    @poejalmer8108 Před 4 lety

    I'm not sure but the plastic fixings you pulled out look a bit like the T4/caravelle interior moulding screw clips (look them up on eBay). If they are, the small hole in the middle is for an allen key, which draws out a threaded plastic bolt that has widened two tabs out to secure it. I might be wrong but will be doing this before lockdown ends, so will see. Thanks for a great video!
