- During a visit to the Trans Giri area of Himachal Pradesh, the MBB team learned about the Hatti or Hattee community. In this community, women hold a unique and prominent role as the undisputed head of the family, with authority over household matters. Furthermore, the team discovered that it is common for men within the community to share a common wife, a practice known as polyandry. This practice of polyandry, prevalent in the Himalayan region, is often linked to the economic challenges faced by the local population. Polyandry has been a long-standing tradition in certain areas of Himachal Pradesh, and its impact on the lives of hill people has been significant across various aspects of their daily activities. This suggests that the practice of polyandry is deeply rooted in the culture and socio-economic conditions of the region, making it an important aspect of their way of life.
What I liked in this video was how carefully the presenter has handled the subject. How beautifully narrated & concluded. Completely neutral about the ritual while giving all the information. Do watch it. Deserves a 👍🏻

मैं भी हाटी समुदाय से ताल्लुक रखता हूं, लेकिन अब यह प्रथा हमारे समुदाय में बंद हो चुकी है। यह प्रथा बहुत पहले होती थी। मैने तो अपने क्षेत्र में ऐसी कोई शादी नही देखी है अपने जन्म से लेकर अभी तक , जहां जोड़ीदारी प्रथा हो।
लेकिन यह बात सच है हाटी समुदाय के लोग सुंदर ,स्वच्छ, ठंडे पहाड़ों में बसते है। अगर आप सुबह सो के उठते हो तो आपके खिड़की के सामने सुंदर पहाड़ों की श्रंखला का नजारा दिखाई देता है। इन क्षेत्रों में अगर सरकार पर्यटन को बढ़ावा दे तो ये क्षेत्र किसी हिल पर्यटन सिटी से कम नही है।

अनेकता में एकता ही भारत की पहचान है। हाटी समाज को अपनी संस्कृति पर गर्व होना चाहिए और साथ ही यह भी ध्यान रखना चाहिए की वे यह प्रथा जबरदस्ती नई पीढ़ी पर न थोपें। अगर कोई इस व्यवस्था को चालू रखना चाहता है तो समाज उसे गलत रूप में न देखें और अगर कोई इस व्यवस्था के अंतर्गत विवाह नहीं करना चाहता तोह समाज को उसके निर्णय का भी स्वागत करना चाहिए।

भारत का सनातन संस्कृति इतना विशालकाय और diversify है कि जिस परिस्तिथि में जीवन मिला है उसको खूबसूरती के साथ जीना,संसाधन सीमित है तो उनका दोहन इस प्रकार करना कि सबको अपना हिस्सा मिले, कम संसाधनों में भी पारिवारिक इकाई को एकजुट और संतुष्ट रखना,बहुत खूब क्या गजब की सोच थी पुरखों की जाती जनजाति को देखकर ऐसा प्रतीत होता है कि दुनियां मे जितनी भी जनजातियां है उनमें सबसे खुशहाल सबसे संतुष्ट,सबसे शांतिप्रिय और जीवट के धनी इसी जनजाति के लोग है।

It is obvious that the women shown here seem happy and their marital relationships with their husbands is consensual and not exploitative to the women. Seriously? A woman is expected to marry all brothers and she will be expected to bear every man a kid. What if there are more than 2 brothers? The only benefit I see in this tradition is that it solves the issue of property division for few generations.but I don't see it as woman emancipation in any way. Just for the sake of tradition she has to marry both brothers not out of her own choice
