I love Little Jimmie Dickens. His ballads are the best. And this one is fantastic. And this band, whoever they are, is out of this world. R.I.P. Little Jimmie.
HAWAII 1962---I played bass in a local band & backed Jimmy on a two week tour of military clubs. Twenty five years later I saw him in a California appearance (as a spectator) & was amazed that he remembered me (and everyone in the band). This is one reason he is so well accepted by everyone he comes in contact with. I will always cherish being associated with Little in stature but Huge in Heart, Jimmy Dickens. John Steaveson of The Howard Gerald Quartet 1961-1963 Honolulu
He is the real deal, when he is gone so is all of the Old Country that I love so much. Besides being a great singer he is a great humorist, we saw him with Merle Haggard in person and I laughed till I cried. He is full of mischief. God love you Little J.D.
This kind of music is what great country music is all about. If I could hear more like this by the classic artists I would go to the Opry more often. For now, though, I am thankful that we do still have some worth listening to. Thanks once again for posting this winner. - Paula
I've always loved the way Jimmy sings the ballads. His distinctive voice and style make his songs unforgettable. This song has been one of my favorites for many years. It's one of those songs I feel that just never stops being popular and when other artists have sung it, too, there's just a good feeling of warmth - tho the lyrics are a little sad. Thank for posting this treasure by this wonderfully talented artist. - Paula
It seems I just can never say enough about this great song sung so wonderfully by Jimmy. The musicians are fabulous. Just the sound they have is so enjoyable - just perfect country gold. I listen to this one every day and wish I could have been there when Jimmy was singing it on this particular Opry show. Thank s again for t his marvelous treasure. - Paula
This briings back memories of watching the Grand Ole Opry and Hee Haw on tv when I was a little kid back in the late 60's and early 70's, thanks for posting this great video
Each time I watch and listen to this video I do so admire the professional look Jimmy and all of the Opry musicians show. They are set apart from so many of the musicians I've seen in recent years who don't care how they look or what people think. For me, a great stage appearance is very important - not that it makes artists sound any differently but they are more enjoyable to watch. Thanks once more for this terrific video . - Paula
Wow - Jimmy has always been wonderful doing the ballads and I'm so glad to hear that his many fans love his ballads, too. This one is a classic . His voice is so distinctive and he can sing any song and make it special. We met him years ago and we treasure that time. He was so gracious and so kind to us at The Opry, showing us around back stage. One of the greatest singers ever. Thank you for posting this. - Paula (formerly PaulinaRena)
I have always loved Jimmy's ballads the most. He has such a great voice for them and this one is tops - isn't the band wonderful? Wow - I agree that it just doesn't get any better than this. The words to this classic have so much meaning for me especially. Thank you for posting this treasure. - Paula
Out behind the barn writteby Boudleaux bryant.go check out my parents Boudleaux and Felice bryant. They wrote most of Jimmy‘s biggest hits like out behind the barn, take me as I am, we could and country boy and many more songs for the Everly Brothers, Eddie Arnold and the Everly Brothers and surprisingly enough Rocky Top. You’ll love their website
His band were Calvin Crawford on bass, Pee Wee Rogers on steel guitar, David Nye on lead guitar, Bill Kistner on drums. Tim Atwood who was an Opry staff member was on piano. Not sure about the fiddle player. Crawford, Nye , and Rogers all passed away before Jimmy. Kistner and Atwood are the only surviving players
I'd have to say the Opry back then was so much better than the shows today. Not sure if the band was Jimmy's or Opry band. I cannot identify any of the players here. Jimmy a great entertainer for sure. Getting on the older side these days. .mosrite60
George Seymour oh great. That's really a prize. Jimmy really surprises me. 40-50 years ago he sang and now 2014 he's still singing on Opry, CFR , RFD-TV, etc.. He's one tough hombre. Do you know the tele player.? Not familiar. mosrite60
Never met the man, I do know he was highly regarded and respected by many! Wish I could have met him. I got it off a instrument broker that acquired it from Pee Wee's estate. Tone to the bone, Billy Knowles did the set up, one of the best Push Pull mechanics around! I do converse with Gary Carter and he told be Pee Wee's guitar that I have had a reputation for superb tone on the Opry. Looking at it right now :)
oh that's heavy pedal work right here. great stuff. Jimmy was a real country trooper. he did not deviate from country until the day he passed on. mos60
Another knock out ..home run, I saw him sing a song many years ago " September Memory" on the Opry. I can't find it any where. Does anyone know? It reminds me of my parents and hits the soul.
I have been trying to find a song by Little Jimmie Dickens, "I Love Lucy Brown" I am not sure if this is the correct title, i saw him sing it on the Grand Ole Opry, I have never heard it again, anybody out there have it or know it.?
Little Jim is BAD on those ballads. What a great song with a great arrangement. This is the Grand Ole Opry at it's best. Backed up by the Blowtorch of the south, clear channel 650 WSM in Nashville.
