I saw Dilla @ Jazz Cafe in London in late 2005, the whole night it was just hype-man and MC's asking the DJ to spin DIlla beats with no sign of the man. During the last beat of the night we noticed a couple of guys carrying a weak looking man down the stairs that led onto the stage, then placed him onto a wheelchair. 'everyone give it up for DIllaaaaaa' shouted out the guy on the mic. You could see how much he loved being there but the man looked so tired, just slumped in his chair while bedroom producers and djs in the crowd, most of whom grew up on his music, were fighting against each other to throw him their mix-cds. He didn't have the energy to collect them, just to give the crowd an apologetic, thankful look. A few weeks later news came out that he had succumbed to a rare disease and lost his life at the age of 32. Every time i hear this tune, originally made for Proof of D12 fame, an MC who is also no longer with us, it puts me in such a sombre place, and just reminds me how precious life is, and how thankful we all should be for this life we're given.
I feel like a moron for not knowing about this man sooner, I recently just discovered him, and once I learned he’s passed, hearing his best music just hit harder than I expected. It’s amazing how some modern artists have led you to go back to the roots, the history of music, Flying Lotus brought me here along with Nujabes, and I’m forever grateful. J Dilla will now be remembered for the rest of my lifetime, and those who pass away before us are never rlly gone. Thank you J Dilla for all that you’ve done and given to us, the listeners, the loners, the broken, the mended, the healers, the strugglers, and most importantly the survivors.
When someone got their history out there, they're never dead, they're here, being remembered from time to time and we check their art like they're here alive, doing well and countinuing to live like they're not buried 6 feet deep. So that's why I never just be sad about others being dead here, cause if we remember them, we do not remember the bad times, we remember the good times we had, and we remember them alive more often than the the second we knew they're dead, and we all die anyway, so nothing really to worry about, death is a part of our life, we need interpret it, cause it is natural part of our life time, that supposse to happen some time, that we cannot choose.

Crazy how this song, alone, can literally adjust my whole mood and demeanor. I immediately start to reflect on life and wonder if I'm really living to my fullest potential or if I'm just existing. I'm not sure if Dilla really intended that when he was making this beat, but I know what effect it has on me. Never underestimate the power of music, or art in general. RIP Dilla

2021. This still gives me chills. Good chills ❤️ Dilla. No one come close. It gets no better than this. The repetitions, the beautiful simplicity, the expertly placed kick drum in everything he create, the silences between the note placement, blows my mind. How Dilla was able to create beats so magical out of the tiniest, most delicate chops that you or I wouldn’t even hear. A true true musical genius. The grand master of hiphop, if ever there was one. So sad that he’s not around but grateful for all that he gifted this earth. This life. Life. Pure meditation.

The ultimate of beats. This one could tell an entire story without anyone speaking over the top! But, since we are all here, there's no excuse not to let some stories fly on this incredible piece of music. J Dilla masterfully samples some jazz piano and adds his own savory swung mpc drums. This guy played and programmed these drums for the ultimate swing and knock. The mix is dark and balanced, with the low end and drums taking up most of the space, with plenty of room left in the to 5k-20khz for the piano melody. This is masterfully done, and heavily respected!
As a human being and music apprentice, I have deep respect and gratitude for the great contribution to world culture presented by this man, the work of this artist is immeasurable, as it is something unique and exclusive to his creative spirit... living in the time of Dilla was an ecstasy, a gift, which I was allowed to perceive. 🍀
Evans.....I hear it....Bill Evans ......JDilla is why music has power to make you feel. Strings...they can cure on not only a physical 😂. But also spiritual
Damn this piece takes me somewhere else. It's incredible how the human body can connect with and understand sounds. Stuff like this doesn't need any lyrics to be understood. You either do or you don't. RIP J D

Even in death, there is life. We live on forever through the memories we create and the actions we take. Our physical body might be buried and push up daisies, rotting underneath the tombstone, but our legacy lives on in our children, or the people who remembered our name. You've got this one shot at life. Make the most of it!
Crazy respect for what Dilla did, but I think Pete Rock deserves a shout out. Dilla was directly influenced by Pete Rock and Pete was the first to chop small snippet samples into ambiguous lofi sounds based largely on Jazz. Pete Rock = Grandfather of lofi hip hop
J Dilla had to die. The man put his whole life essence into these beats. He fused himself with the melody. His body left to rot, his soul-lingers as long as his music plays.
Heard the piano riff before going to sleep and I had to listen to it a bit just to chill out before getting some good rest. R.I.P Dilla and thank you for all the beautiful music you put out. It will always be a huge source of inspiration for us to keep making what we love and to keep seeking beauty everywhere around us.
This man was reflecting a whole cluster of emotions through his beats, just like Nujabes and other pioneers... They both didn't like being in the spotlight too much, maybe that's why their art is so full of colors and value, compared with the artists of todays artificial commercial machine. Rest in beats!
Can’t imagine the blues when people heard the news Some world was split in two while others sad confused I know hearts were infused to the life in your tunes Melodies for the vibing sessions of a crew Food for the silent tears and vibrant years of the youth Personally, you guided my life when it looped So thank you, I will never forget what you’ve produced Your music influenced the world... if you only knew
Dilla got me through my youth highschool and early adulthood. Early-2000s is known for obnoxious music and led me to a search of true underground then. Only to discover real music from talented people. If it were not for streaming sites such as this- it was near impossible to source. When SoundCloud came out early, it changed the scene. Back then had to visit certain cities around the globe just to listen to these people spin. Still remember going to Tokyo and listening to similar like Nujabes. What a time

One of the most somber and the most nicest beat I've ever heard. And the fact that Dilla sampled this from one of my favorite Miles Davis songs is amazing.
"I like his kick patches better than anyone; I love his snare patches better than anyone; I love his sample chops better than anyone; I like his ability to flip samples better than anyone; I like his engineering better than anyone; I love his chord structure better than anyone; I love his bass tones better than anyone. It really just starts there. And having listened to all of his beat creations, and over-analyzed them over a hundred times each, there’s just an extreme pristine presentation. Even the stuff that you’re lukewarm on as an average listener, you can’t deny."
I keep coming back to this beat in every hard time its like this song feels like a hug to my heart. My brother actually showed me this beat the night my dad left after a long abusive life with him, that night my brother taught me what free styling is and how it can help get your stress and mental out. He made me feel safe at that moment and helped me forget and i can still remember the feeling i got when i first heard this and books of war that night. Its kinda funny seeing how this song pulls in all kinds of people with there own stories or reasons why there here maybe thats why i feel so warm and at peace when i hear this. All our souls are here and you can feel it when you hear it. life is hard but i gotta say this beat harder. I wish i could thank j dilla and thank my brother another million times for showing me this world of music. Its been 6 years sence he left and as much as i dont like to think about it but when i do i listen to this, close my eyes, and freestyle just like i did that night. All of you stay safe and keep listing with hopefully some hope and strength in your heart to keep fighting.

Damm well it seems they were destined to be the fathers of lofi, to spread the music to their sides of the world. Nujabes gave some Japenese Influence to Lofi, J-Dilla gave some American influence to Lofi.
I’m a 22 year old music addict lol. Rock n roll showed me my love for music. Then J Dilla and hip hop showed me the feel of music. I’ve always dreamed of creating music played guitar from a young age now I’m flipping samples. Thanks, JayDee
J dilla was a real nigga. Growing up always listening to bronx hip hop all the way here in the UK getting through primary school up until secondary J dilla would always be in the playlists from time to time. Never gave enough recognition to the guys amazing music. Rest easy J.
yeah, grew up in west australia and bumped dilla beats a lot every sarurday morning at the library when i was 14-15.. good times 😢

RIP Dilla
Kimani Smith if you want you can hear Life by Namjoon. It’s with lyrics

The vibe came from him, so I would say that, yes, what you understood is what he wanted people to feel. Crazy how it’s expressed even without any words. Communication oozes out of the soul whether you try to stop it or not
This song is peaceful
Like rain from the heavens
Pure and not evil
It washes clean the earth
Water is a cleansing agent
Cleaning up dirt

Cause I compare it to the way God

That is Fragrant

❤️ Dilla.
This life.

@@TLOJ4 yes. Called "LIFE"
The ultimate of beats. This is masterfully done, and heavily respected!

we all will pass. It is what you leave behind that can make you live on.
Energy cannot be created nor destroyed, only transferred...
Even in death, there is life. We live on forever through the memories we create and the actions we take. I choked up reading this to the music haha

So glad I remembered this Song, coming back to it years later and I'm feeling the beautiful loneliness and effects it has
"I like his kick patches better than anyone; I love his snare patches better than anyone; I love his sample chops better than anyone; I like his ability to flip samples better than anyone; I like his engineering better than anyone; I love his chord structure better than anyone; I love his bass tones better than anyone.
