Welcome to the Official Peter Kay CZcams channel! Bringing you all the best moments from stand up to sitcoms!
Taken from That Peter Kay Thing, Episode 3 'The Ice Cream Man Cometh'
This episode revolves around the fading popularity of local ice cream vans. The subject of the documentary is Mr Softee Top, an ice cream man who resents every aspect of his job and has an intense dislike of children. He often verbally assaults his customers and Darren, his assistant. His attempts to boost sales include inventing the "Millennium Cone", selling at the sites of road traffic accidents and renting pornographic videos. To make matters worse, he has to compete with another ice cream man who has starrted trading in the locality: Signór Wippy. The second half of the episode is set in at Leverhulme Park's Bolton Show, where Mr Softytop runs out of ice cream and has to send Darren to get more. However, the ice cream Darren brings back has melted and has bought Cruchie bars instead of Flakes, causing Mr Softytop to have a psychotic episode. This results in the final triumph of Signór Wippy, although he is later exposed as an illegal immigrant. Mr Softytop leaves the ice-cream business and goes on to open a sex shop called Softy's Hard Stuff, while Darren takes over the van.

This was filmed on leverhume Park in Bolton (the last scene) and most people who he served that day didn't know it was a joke. Some friends got served by him and said 'that ice cream man over there has just lost it' hahahahaha
There all extras you muppet they all knew it was being filmed, you can't record someone and put them in a series without signing release forms so either way you talk a load of nonsense and it wasn't filmed on leverhulme Park lived here 28 years pal, over exaggerating you are.
@@Brawling_Style 'most people who he served that day', you do realise only a few people were actually shown in the queue in the video. He was there for hours just serving ice cream and most people (outside of the few shown) had no idea you 'muppet'. Also the last scene absolutely was filmed on leverhume Park, other scenes were shown near red lane school and in tongmoor
😂 😂 😂 😂 He's effing fantastic!!
@@Brawling_Style it was filmed on leverhulme park (long lane ) at the Bolton show

Ice Cream Man Cometh is my favourite thing Peter Kay has ever done. Absolutely genius. How he used the Taxi Driver theme music is perfect 😂 Mad it's over 20 years old. The fact he did the whole "mockumentry" thing before The Office gets over looked as well.
Did You see Leonard ?
I loved that Peter Kay thing too but suggesting that he came up with the mockumentary format before the Office is wrong. It's been done in the UK since the 70's.
Eric Idle will tell you he was first but this sketch reminded me of Victoria Woods 80's sketches and I know Peter was a big fan of hers
@@A-small-amount-of-peas I aren't suggesting he invented it. I'm saying he did it before Gervais and Merchant did with The Office, which he did
@@jhwalsh93 But if he didn't come up with the format in the first place I don't get what your point is? Peter Kay borrows formats quicker than Ricky Gervais does. Whoop De do 😂
@@A-small-amount-of-peas because Gervais and Merchant get the credit for popularising the mockumentary format at the turn of the century.. Kay never really gets credit for it despite doing it before them. That's my point, hope that helps.
This is based on a real icecream man Peter knew in Bolton, apparantly He tuned into police radio frequencies to find out where a pile up was on a motorway or street to pull up and sell people icecreams while they were stuck in a traffic jam.
"Where there's tragedy, there's trade"
Ice cream van has started coming to my road in lockdown with its sinister wonky tune. Nobody buys.
"i feel sorry for them when nobody buys." oh mg. That touched my heart! Jeez. Interesting. GH, haha! Though I would never have bought crisps for fear of them being stale.

We watched the same video as you, a transcription is not required, thank you.
I've always wondered why people do that. Enlighten me please?
@Carlos Muchos Will do, thanks. You take care too.
interestingly it seems like the actor "darren" tried to prematurely deliver the punchline when he first gets back. Notice he says "ive been coming" thinking Peter would deliver the joke there but realized he hadnt got the ice cream out yet
@@rayenbow3281 I think the reason is that for some people a transcription IS required. It's the sort of joke that could go over some people's heads.

Best part and all 😅
Please no video, no video
I love the constant Bob Carolgees jokes in everything Peter does 😂
A random pie has appeared
Ikr
Bob Carolgees actually makes guest appearances when presenting Leonard the award and he has a talk show in Pheonix Nights.
Yes pie
Pie cameo
0:22 this part is pure comedic genius. The way you see the van reversing back after the camera falls on the ground and Peter shouting “that wernt my fault shoulda moved!”
Has me everytime! 😂😂

@Michael Whittaker the pilot for phoenix nights is part of the that peter kay thing
@Michael Whittaker its low brow basic humour. Aimed at plebs
First time I watched this gem and the Taxi Driver theme kicked in at 00:30 i died, so bloody funny 🤣 Kay is a legend.
One of the funniest things I’d ever seen when this came out. All of the episodes from this particular series were excellent especially the bingo one
I've only just discovered Peter Kay. He's fantastic. Brits have the best sense of humour.
'he interferes with dogs!'
Kathy Holland then you my friend have missed out and have some serious dvd collecting to do. May I also suggest phoenix nights by Peter Kay? Because that shit is quotable as all hell and very funny

"THAT WEREN'T MY FAULT, YOU SHOULD'VE MOVED!"
This is outstanding, I watched this years ago I laughed so hard, the taxi driver theme is a stroke of brilliance
@blagger42 That same piece was also used in an episode of Kojak from 1974.It was broadcasted two years before Taxi Driver was made.I wonder if that's where Scorcese or the musical director first heard it
This series was an absolute classic and completely underrated compared to a lot of the so-called comedy series today.
Phoenix nights! 🤣
The best half hour of material Peter Kay will ever write. Absolutely brilliant.
That moment he throws the melted ice cream over that woman. Comedy platinum. Absolutely hilarious
5:57 - This had made my afternoon LOL, I think she was smiling at the end xd
Good spot
Never spotted that and ive watched this episode so many times :)
She does and laughs as well lol
LOL, I wasn't expecting that. 😂 5:50
She was laughing because she thought the glass door shutting was the cut sequence.
The music from 'Taxi Driver' sets the scene for this. 😅
Every bit of this is just pure comedy gold. Kay is a genius
This episode is one of my fave Peter Kay things of all time.
Love the theme from the Taxi Driver 😂
6:00 Like the way she couldn't help smiling.

Wish we could have had more of Mr Softy top from Peter Kay. Probably his most underrated character
Comedy at its best my medicine at the moment
Andrea Phelps it’s not the Black Plague!!
04:04 "Stops 'em attacking women and keeps me in wafers!"
The end bit when he chucks the melted icecream and it splatters all over the inside windows ,hilarious 😆
Love that Taxi Driver intro.
TIGERWOODSBOYFRIEND I’m the only one here...
TIGERWOODSBOYFRIEND 😂😂😂
Also used in an episode of Kojak from 1974
Timeless Northern comedy.
Can't beat Northern humour. 👍
@mhffc Yes I would! There is a difference...
@mhffc Also Ricky Gervais & Karl Pilkington, two of the funniest men of the past two decades and both born to working class families in the South and the North.
"I CAN'T MAKE 99s WITH F***IN' CRUNCHIES, CAN I?" Hehe! XD
When I was a kid back in the early 80s we had an ice cream guy that used to pull up outside our school at lunchtime and sell the kids single cigarettes!!! No joke
The lady at the end complaining..Then watch her laugh when he chucks the tub of ice cream over her lololol.
this character should have his own show, imagine living with him
PETER KAY IS APSOLUTLY FANTASTIC. HES MY FAVOURITE COMEDIAN EVER. X💕
Really really would love to see him. He’s so my type of guy. But I know he has kids and a wife. Can’t wait to see on tv. 💕😘💟😂💝
5:46 looks like it an all 😂🤣🤣 watched this back then and this went over my head
I remember laughing my head off at that part cos I knew what it meant
I have the DVD of 'That Peter Kay Thing'...It's bloody genius I quote it all the time :)

The most underrated sitcom of all time. Absolute perfection
Was crying with laughter at the end there! Utterly brilliant
“I can’t make 99s with Crunchies” put it up my grave 💀
5:58 had me rolling on my back like a dying fly first time I saw it 😂😂😂
The best thing Kay’s ever done
Although that bit in Leonard where his 'Aunt' accuses him of being a serial killer is pretty damn good...😂
5:58 Peter Kay reveals in his latest book that only he, the director and the cameraman knew he was going to explode the way he does, the scene was originally supposed to end before he completely loses it 😂
peter Kay is just amazing
Absolute CLASSIC! Peter Kay is a legend on top of legends!!!!!
Absolutely howling at this 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love the almost off script banter the 2 of them have at 3:35.
"Hot stuff these are" That's why he keeps them in the fridge"
"I didn't know if they wanted an ice-cream or something to suck on." "Or both!"
"Where there's tragedy there's trade" 😂
Hahahahaha it never ceases to make me belly laugh 😂
Rocking that Phantom Menace shirt😂😂
"Stops them attacking woman and keeps me in wafers" :)
Proper class 🤣🤣🤣 blowing fuses with the punters 🤪
ha ha ha haaaa look at the chewing gum going ! He knew all the little things that would give the comedy that extra touch !
I've only just realised the woman he threw ice cream over broke character and started laughing when he closed the window 😂😂
Just can't stop watching this policeman :"Zip this mouth. ZIP IT!" ahhh, he's awesome) Is he an actor too?
Bye bye Sunday football 😂
Those where the days Fantastic Peter when a 99p was a 99 😂😂😂😂😂
The Taxi Driver riff is genius
"theres been a softy top round here for years, and it'll take more than a false accent and a fake tan t' shift me.."

“Stops them attacking kids, keeps me in wafers” 4:06 😂
When he threw the melted ice cream over the lady😂😂😂😂😂😂
Check the lady at the end when he throws the ice cream over her, you can see her laughing like it might of been an unscripted moment.
When he loses it at the end I laugh so hard I nearly piss myself “bastarrrrd”
MORE PLEASE! We need Signor Whippie!
I like the Leonard episode, crazy boxing nun she's boxing for god! All brilliantly parodies of life
The funniest meltdown ever on tv
oh my god when the taxi driver music started to play softly hahaha genius
This episode is a comedy masterpiece. One of the best pieces of comedy in the 1990s - and there weren't many. I'd say I'm Alan Partridge (1997) was the best and One Foot in the Grave...but not many after those.
Oh and The Royle Family (First 3 series only - not those rubbish tawdry specials that followed)
@@mrsbaylocksvideoemporium9621 If you're including Irish comedy, I'd add Father Ted to that list. Just my opinion, you may not agree.
Do all ice cream men have an under counter side line? This is class.
Timeless, one of the last comedy greats
Where there's Tragedy there's Trade 😂
Where theres tragedy theres trade 🤣🤣🤣
