    HAPPY 4TH OF JULY! I'm more than happy to share this video of how I rig up for sturgeon fishing on the bank with you in coincidence to celebrate our independence and freedom!
    Many, many, many of you have asked me to show you guys how we rig up to catch the sturgeon from my recent sturgeon fishing videos. I took it upon myself that I might as well make a video as it will benefit everyone. This past weekend, three of us headed down to the river to do some catch and release sturgeon fishing with some river monsters so I took a 30 minute interval to film this video for you guys. I hope it helps you rig up and catch sturgeon. Thanks for watching!

      Perhaps where you live, it is. Different places have different regulations. Here, there is no regulation on what length your leader must be.

    Very well done vids. Nice tech and helpful tips. I have been Sturgeon fishing for 30 years, and also in areas you fish. (you probably know me) Not many understand the thrill of catching oversize monster fish. I hope your videos will help others to be successful and also enjoy the catch. Im getting up in years so my days may be numbered. Sturgeon fishing has been a high-lite of my life. Last year a 9 footer about did me in. I only fish for oversize and will perhaps try the Delta this year for a monster catch. I love to help others catch these fish, I hand off rods to those who have not caught a Sturgeon. It's almost as much fun watching the expressions and excitement of others. Good luck with this years trips. ~ Evo Jim

    • @SamongOutdoors
      @SamongOutdoors  Před 6 lety +2

      Thanks, Jim. The excitement of fighting these oversized beasts is second to none. My goal of making this video was definitely to just help out those who want to catch sturgeon. For me, my sturgeon fishing addiction has only begun and hope that I will have many, many more years of fishing for these fish. Thanks for watching and commenting, and good luck to you on your future trips as well.

    Samong, pretty good video my fellow fisherman. Ya need to look into a product called magic thread for securing your mesh both to the bait and the hook, great stuff for that. Also here in Idaho we couldn't use that weight and hook setup, we're required to use a sliding weight.

    I am at the opposite end of the spectrum. I use 300-350 yards of Gamma Polyflex in 12 pound test. I need the extra yardage for the insanely long runs the sturgeon make in the Wisconsin river below the dams. The water is also very deep. Have never snapped off on a running fish. Gamma claims their line is about twice the strength of it’s rating and in my experiences I would agree.

    up here in bc almost everyone uses 100lb+ braid for main line. i also use a rig where the weight is tied on to a slider with 30 lb mono. the smallest weight i would use would be 8 ounce here and highest would be 14 ounces. salmon roe is one of the best baits here

    • @SamongOutdoors
      @SamongOutdoors  Před 6 lety +1

      We usually use heavy 10-13ft rods and 40-50lb line. I've seen people pull in sturgeon with steelhead rods though. It's personal preference, but we like to stay on the side of heavier gear.

  • @FishingfarmingfightingSmed

      The majority of the snake is catch and release only. I remember reading the regulations about something about the mouth of the snake that is legal to retain sturgeon. However, this part is indeed catch and release only. All of my videos posted up right now is at the Columbia. I will have the snake river sturgeon videos posted up some time next week. We use mono simply because it fights abrasion on rocks a lot better than braid. Braid simply gets cut like butter if you are fishing somewhere where it's rocky in which about all the places we fish are rocky. If one was to use a spinning combo though, I would recommend braided line.
