I love how their water heater is in this bright, big, cheery room instead of a basement of cramped darkness and drear.
sandibeek completely correct!!!! Lol like everyone out here in the worlds basement is just so Luminous and cheery.😂😂 I’m glad I wasn’t the only person thinking this
If they have it in the dark y’all would be like “how df can we learn about this when we can’t even see what he’s doing.” He has it in the bright so everyone can see y’all are like “I love how they think every basement is this bright basement.” If somebody cures cancer y’all would say “why would he do that now there’s over population.”

Finally! Nice to see a large company produce helpful tutorials rather than simply pushing their installation services instead. Thank you!
However, sometimes it's best to go with the pros lol some lessons are costly if it's your first time doing it. (Speaking from experience haha)
@@enriquevilla2065 sometimes, indeed it is!
But, it must be said that I properly installed my hot water heater myself 11 months ago (as referenced by the date showing on my original comment) and it is still running fine! I did reference a plumbing video as well regarding the connection of the relief valve pvc piping (ya know, the purple paint and cement).
I’m actually becoming a skilled auto mechanic thanks to CZcams too, lol. I’m not trying to brag, but, I really freaking rock! Lol. Go figure! And YOU can too, thanks to videos like this and others! CZcams has taken the phrase “pay it forward” to an entirely new level!
Real world application right here, a nice super brightly lit environment with super clean room, brand new installation, literally everything is brand new and up to code. I don't think I saw a single spec of dirt the entire time lol.
I'm doing ours today.... my basement looks NOTHING like this! I feel like I'm entering a serial killer's death dungeon everytime I go down there. Gonna be the scariest 5 hours of my life! 😳😁
I’m over here probably about to completely remodel an old cabin on my families land and I don’t think it’s ever HAD a water heater much less would it be this easy
Home Depot and Lowe's wanted $1,800 I bought it for $400 installed it myself in 1 hour so they're charging you $1,400 just for labor what a rip off go on CZcams people you can learn how to do things so easily by yourself if you have a little mechanical skills it is very easy I've done so many projects by CZcams had no problem and save thousands and thousands of dollars
when you inevitably do it wrong, unless you are a plumber and an electrician and know all the up to date codes and local requirements, and you go to sell the house, the home inspector will find it, tag it, and you'll pay for it on the back end. nothing is for free.
@Chris Cirnigliaro yeah they want $300 for permit what does inspected do he looks at it and sometimes I don't even come and look at it it's a way for the town's to make a lot of money what do they do for $300 nothing how hard is it to put a water heater connector hot water connector cold water and put the electric three wires into it really got to be a brain scientist to figure that out if you could change a tire you can put a water heater so you tell me why you need to make $800 profit on a half hour job
@@alexbojsza734 Punctuation is your friend.
@C&R Mechanical of course all the people in business doing the installs recommend you dont do it yourself, pay them a lot of money instead. it's a big govt aided scam. actually where i live a drop in replacement is fine and doesnt need any permits or code nonsense. since if you follow what was already done, it's good to code at that time of the original install, and is grandfathered in as a repair not a replacement (even tho realistically it is a replacement) as long as it's the same type and size of water heater. besides an insurance claim for a water heater isn't likely. mine is in the garage so it cant really flood anything, etc. not sure why the inspection matters, when i bought my house the inspector never mentioned if anything was to code or not on the report he gave me on the house i was buying. all they do is a cursory look for obvious problems.
@C&R Mechanical sure, but there is a big scam in trades making it where its illegall to fix things, making it hard to get licensed etc. That decreases the supply of existing plumbers/electricians/whatever, which benefits those in business already, who push their state legislators for those laws. But is shortsighted and hurts everybody in the end, except a few plumbers and electricians.
You have a distinct financial interest in telling people "dont do it yourself". If you come on these videos, it's always the installers that make comments such as yours. It should be clear what their interest is. It's not in the homeowners well being, it's in their pocketbook.
With sharkbite fittings doing a water heater is really easy nowdays.
As always, theres two sides to a story, and maybe the correct solution is somewhere in the middle.
This is actually a tutorial and not just a promo for Lowes. Good work!
I am a maintenance technician for a large company, with a company credit card with a 20k monthly limit. Things like this are easy when you can buy every thing new. And with these help full videos. I been looking good. lol just recently replaced an electric hot water heater.
Great video. This isn't a job for the novice... but it's a great instructional video. I swapped my old heater because she was 14 years old and there's no reason to wait for the breakdown.... and I installed their 50 gallon AO Smith premier. I needed to change out one of the connection pipes - but the other was in good shape - just needed a new washer. Once she was filled and power turned on - I had plenty of hot water in about an hour. It's so silent... I was concerned it wasn't on. I'm very happy with this unit. Thanks
Literally just connect a few fittings and wires together. A child could it.
Now I know 100% Google or CZcams listens in on my conversations. I have suspected it for quite sometime. I will be replacing my old hot water heater this week and have been discussing it with my buddy and here we go on my suggested videos to watch. How to install an electric hot water heater. I am ready to go without a cell phone
Dwight Harber watch a documentary called The Creepy Line
dude, you just figured this out 6 months ago???
Have you typed "Water Heater" into any search engine on the internet perhaps to search for average price or even to look for written step by step instructions? Or is the only time that your water heater situation has came up was during a conversation with your buddy? I wouldn't be surprised if CZcams somehow can tailor your video suggestions via your internet search history or some cookies stored that could be erased or wiped clean during a deletion of your browsing history or more so, running a disk clean up on your hard drive. If all you had done was speak the phrase "I need to replace my water heater" in the vicinity of your phone or computer and then this video turns up in your video suggestions soon after… Well that is some creep show ish and my first line of action would be to cover all computer and phone microphones with a small strip of tape when not in use. It may sound inconvenient for a cell phone but if you just fold a small part of the end of the strip of tape back on itself, you'll have a little tab to pull it off and away from the little mic hole on a cell when you need to talk.
I've heard of people saying to cover computer camera lenses when not in use but to think that all the microphones on all my devices may be listening and keeping info on my conversations is just crazy
They’ve been doing this for years lol

OK an expansion tank is only necessary if you don't have a pressure tank! Aka if you have city water

it looks so easy and who knew it only takes 5:11 to install a water heater..
What happens when the bucket under the TPR valve fills up. The drain should extend outside according to code or to a floor drain. If the TPR valve releases under pressure the bucket is going to overflow pretty quick.
just did my replacement with this guide, you really should try as it's really not that hard and the hundreds a handyman will charge you is criminal. you dont even need to do soldering with the sharkbite push on fixtures available.

How to remove the heater starts at 1:23 min.
I’m a new plumber this was very helpful
unfortunately he was found dead
Great video, but my heater is two feet up in a small closet, not on the floor. The hardest part of the replacement process is getting the old heater out and the new heater in. Unless you're a gorilla. Then no problem.
attach a plank and you can walk it down the plank.
also drain the water out first and then a regular size gorilla will work fine.
Regarding the hoses, if they just go straight up to connect to the above cross pipes, then what you have is a convection flow of hot water up the hose, along one edge, and a downward flow of room temp or cool water back into the tank.
I always buy a hose that is double the length shown, in the video, and I make a loop or S bend in the hose. Why?
Think of a lake or swimming pool. Warm water rises, and cold water sinks. By creating that S loop or full circle loop, the hot water from the tank rises to the top of the S peak, but will not propagate down. The S loop is effective to stop convection currents and to not use the hot water tank exhaust connection from heating the house. The extra length hose cost is recovered in the first year from installation.
You make it look so easy.
lol
You should always keep the water on and drain the tank for about 10 minutes to remove as much sediment as possible from the tank. Turn the water off after that time and let the tank continue to drain.
thank you!
Excellent
Thanks lot !!!
When he says that turning on the hot side of another faucet MAY help to drain the water heater tank quicker, there is no MAY about it. It is a MUST. Or you can simply loosen or completely disconnect the cold water supply connection and the water will gush out.
Thanks alot....Just installed my heater 👍
Maybe a dumb question but I do leave the switch on for water to come into the tank
Thanks for sharing
if their is a pressure washer you dont need plumbers tape lol
It seems easy!!! I'll try to replace mine myself

Whats the sense of the pan if you have a bucket...
My 50 gal Rheem seems to have taken 6 mins to fill. All hot water faucets are full flowing. If I lift the pressure valve on tank water comes out instead of air. Everything indicates the water tank is full but the 6 minutes. Filling a 5 gallon can off sink took 3.5mins. So you'd think water tank would take around 40 mins. Half afraid to plug it in!
Water flows much faster out of a 3/4 inch high pressure pipe in your basement than from the faucet of a kitchen sink. Does it take you 30 minutes to draw a bath?
perfect
Thanks, good luck with the project.

Some water heaters have an anti-corrosion film on the inside where you connect the cold and hot water nipples. I have yet seen anyone address this. I took a screwdriver and poked holes through the grey puddy like film so that the water can fill up the tank and discharge into the hot side. No one ever mentions this.
OHHHH THAT'S IT??....ill get right on this. And I thought it was difficult and had a bunch of steps. Seriously Lowes......

"Using the previous wire connections as a guide"? WTH. No details.
If my water heater doesn't have the dielectric nipples, how do I add them? Can the existing nipples usually be removed from the tank?
Also, this video failed to mention that the code requires a shutoff valve on the cold water side. They even sell push-fit ball valves with pre-attached braided steel hoses.
*giggity*
You said "nipple"
In my area, the original tank inlet valve was installed according to Code. My inlet hose attached to that same valve.
Relief valve discharge pipe has to be within 6 in of the floor not the bucket
I believe you are supposed to clean the pipes even for Push-Fit
Please wipe soldered joint after soldering. Remove the flux chemicals that remain.
on the outside?? who cares... how often do you touch/lick your water pipes?
@@fd3871 becuase its corrosive material and over time causes the copper pipe to oxidize and may eventually cause a leak. But I'd you're not a liscensed plumber how could you know that?
@@nickmason327 when you say it like that it is a valid point. i might not be a plumber, but I do dabble in electronics tinkering so I use flux, and solder on circuit boards (copper) and most of the fluxes out there, specifically the no-clean type, aren't or shouldn't be corrosive; however after reading your comment I discovered that plumbing fluxes are far more corrosive and that it is good practice to remove for that reason.

do these last longer than rheem?
how many hours should we wait?
Beth, are you referring to wait time before checking the T&P valve? If so, the time to heat water to 120 degrees varies by tank size and other factors. Check the installation instructions that came with your water heater; they may provide an estimate of the time.
Thanks for watching.
Plumbers Tape 🤣
Hi im stuck in the dark. I connected the electrical wiring after it filled and the power went out. The red wire to the copper wire connection looks burned. I don't want to mess with it. What can it be?
Sounds like for some reason you tripped a breaker. Make sure breaker is off. Make sure wire connections are CORRECT and no loose wires are exposed. THEN after filling the tank with water flip the breaker to ON.
American water geyser are different than our Indian Water Heyser they are huge
How often do you need to replace it?
If there is water in the pan it sits on, and it’s not coming from the relief valve. The tank has gone bad and needs replacing.
If their is no hot water, (electric) the elements need replacing. Make sure it is full before turning on the power if you change them. They will melt themselves if tank is not full.
(Gas) make sure the pilot light is lit and gas is flowing.
The sad thing is you don’t even need an expansion tank they are just trying to get you to waste your money on bullshit, I don’t have one and my pressure is fine
They are not to expensive I can get a good one for 90$, and in Germany in my area they are pretty useful

Can't stand those giant power bills so I'm gonna have a timed light switch wired in for 1 hour. Nobody uses hot water during the day just in the mornings and evenings.
It looked like the electrical cable only had a red, black, and green wire. Where is the white neutral wire?
s wilson some boilers are different
120, not 240, maybe...
In the wiring I am familiar with you only need the white neutral wire if you need 120V. Red to white is 120V, black to white is 120V but red to black is 240V. if the water heater uses 240V and does not need 120V for any components then the white neutral wire would not be needed.
nathan dreon vcfjcocod
In a non-metallic (Romex, etc) cable, the white is re-colored red on 208 (3 phase) or 240V (single phase) circuits. This is because a white (grounded) wire is not required, and not desired. All straight 208/240V circuits have 2 hots and a equipment ground.
