Awesome plane beginner plane which can take off from grass and land smoothly. I thought it was going to flip. LOL Thank you
If I get into the RC planes or drones, are we supposed to register with FAA or something?
Dang I received my Sport Cub BNF yesterday. I had watched your video of the Champ and I had decided to get a smaller plane because My Carbon Cub S+ which flies amazing but is just too big to take off and land from anywhere near my house. I didn't get the champ because I wanted SAFE with the "Oh crap" button and BNF is only $10 more than the Champ so a no brainier. I can use the BXe Transmitter that came with my Carbon cub S+.
@@mrkmh1 Nice, I have had a couple of the: Sport Cub S, and I had some bad luck with it. In Beginner Mode I was Flying, with No Wind even. So as I was Flying away from myself, and for the life of me, I just could Not get the Plane to Turnaround, and I couldn't even Lower my Altitude. Then the Plane had gotten to Far away, that I couldn't tell my Orientation, and when your Flying Towards yourself, the Controls are Backwards. So, just learning the Controls while Flying Towards Myself, was a Challenge in it's own. The Sport Cub S in SAFE MODE needs more Control Authority. I have Flown a lot of Airplanes with SAFE AND SAFE SELECT, and I never had the Problems that I had with the SPORT CUB S.
Hey, Larry, I was so what's going on then? So did you get those Nintendo switch games? Right Super Mario Kart Mario Party Legend of Zelda Super Mario Brothers Splatoon 2 And that's all. .
Funny story, my son and I were flying this after he got it for his birthday, and well I was at the controls and got a little crazy, as it was coming down fast, I pressed the self leveling panic button, it leveled so fast that the battery came loose from the Velcro and fell to the ground, the plan just glided down. We searched and searched for the battery, couldn't find it, right before we left though, my son walked out into the field and he was like "dad, I found the battery" ha ha. word of advice, make sure the battery is secure. Kind of wish the battery was inside a compartment, probably the only gripe about this plane, Very Fun and well worth the money. This was our first plane and it has been a blast.
Should have put a parachute on that battery;-)
How much is this plane
@@paulkelly4400 RTF is $129.99 and the BNF Version is $99.99.
What should the voltage reading be when it is dangerous to send the plane back up.
I put clear tap just in case the Velcro isn’t enough
Well at 75 years young and never tried rc flying! I think I will give this plane a go!
Thanks for a great explanation 😎
Dick
Best of luck, take it slow, it is very addictive and fun.
Richard Ness that’s the spirit!
Get the UMX Timber, it has the SAFE system like this cub but also provides more power so you aren't fighting a light breeze.
@John Pelcak For the bind and fly versions the plane shown here runs $99 and the UMX Timber runs $129. Getting the RTF versions generally runs ~ $30 more.
Take my advice - DON'T! See my comments above.
I FLEW!!!!!!! Plane came in last night. Charge the battery this morning. What a blast! Thanks to The RC Saylors for posting this video. It got me in the air!!
My dad is about 70 years old and has always enjoyed watching other people fly RC planes. A couple of things have kept him from getting his own plane. Cost and he has moderate tremors. THIS would be the perfect gift for him! Glad I saw this video!
Rob we sincerely hope your Dad is able to take to the skies with this plane soon! If you haven't purchased it yet, have you seen the newer version of this that was just released? We've already made two videos on it, that I recommend you check out. If you have already bought this original version, no worries as you've still got an amazing RC. Here is our first video on it - czcams.com/video/sgHJYmzpHhg/video.html
Here is our second video where we fly these planes together - czcams.com/video/dCr3U7OiZIA/video.html
And here is where you can buy the newest version RTF - bit.ly/2VK2MxY
Happy Flying!!

This popped up as a recommended video and i wanted to say this was my first plane. It was recommended to be by a local hobby shop and I'm eternally thankful for it. I was able to learn to fly fixed wing without being scared I'd lose the plane or crash it into something and cause property damage. It was an easy transition from quads and helis and nice to be able to take off and land from my driveway and fly safely up and down my street and the cul-de-sac.
Great video. Taught my grand son to fly this starting with an old real flight sim then this. Second day he was doing everything on his own. We made some big smiles today...
Soooooooo right about keeping the lingo in check !! or more to the point, explaining what the lingo means - especially with this being an entry-level plane. thumbs up
I just bought a carbon cub rtf from Horizon and although I haven't got a chance to fly it yet due to crappy pennsylvania weather, I'm ready. I joined a club, got an instructor, and joined AMA. I just need better weather. The reason I'm commenting is because I might order one of these to just go enjoy flying without driving out to the field. I think I can fly that in the parking lot of our football field. When there isn't a game of course lol. You guys have the most awesome videos on your products. I've learned more about what to expect from my cub than any reading I've done. Great videos!
I just received mine a few days ago. This plane makes me look like I know what I’m doing!😂 I used to fly RC but only briefly, never made it past a couple trainers. With an electric motor and all the stabilization tech, this plane is a breeze to fly. Thanks for the vid, great content.
This is a great series guys! You two helped me start in the hobby not too long ago, and I owe you a huge thanks for all your info in the hobby. Kudos to the both of you for everything....thanks!
I have been flying FPV drones for 5 years, Decided I needed to learn to fly planes line of site. I learned with this plane. it is great in no wind conditions... I am flying lots of planes now, but this survived me learning to fly line of sight!
I love this plane, been flying mine for the last 4 years. upgraded the motor & tires for more bush flying. Added the FPV cam to chase other planes, & with the upgraded motor it can pull streamer 20+ ft long. My hobby shop sells it for $100. This & the Corsair are my favorite.
I just bought this last month for my first R/C airplane. I've flown quads for a year and a half, and was watching a bunch of your videos, and it was actually one of the warbirds your were testing, I think it was the airacobra P39. It jogged some great memories I had building model airplanes, and frustrating ones of never getting that gas engine to start with the old r/c planes. I bought this, and it's such a confidence booster! Love the safe mode! I've crashed a bunch, and it's still going, although it's nose is starting to resemble a bulldog. Have just ordered a UMX Timber, because I want the brushless motor, and lights, and bush tires etc...But I don't regret getting the Sport Cub S, cause I got my wife to fly it, and maybe we can have those dogfights I was dreaming about as a kid!lol. Thanks, Saylors, for stirring up those old feelings!
Thank you for explaining this to me I am a and immediate flyer myself but I'm getting my grandson involved in it and I want him as a train of this is going to be unbelievable thank you for showing us this will help us out in the long run I am very happy that you took the opportunity to show us everything and I am going to order one this week once again thanks a lot have a nice night God-bless
Got my 8 year old son this for Christmas, he has never flown anything, took it out yesterday for its maiden flight and he had a blast, and I had a blast watching him. Thinking about getting one for myself now haha
I bet your son was good with the x box al ready 😊
I have bought 3 of these and they are stupid fun. I even raved about them enough to get some of they guys from work to buy them and go out to fly together. Super fun planes to fly for sure
this little plane is near and dear to my heart because after not flying for over 10 years i got one about 3 years ago and it builds your confidence so fast. great little plane
It is an awesome plane!
You two are awesome!! Thank you for the hard work, in the heat, cold, loose dogs and creepy vans!! I've never flown before and I just ordered this (Horizon Hobby) yesterday for my son and I. But I'm sure we are going to be adding to our "hangar" very soon. Subscribed!!
I am not a beginner but have been looking for something to fly in my backyard and teach my kids to fly. I will be picking up one of these. Thanks for the review!
Getting back into RC planes after a long absence and bought one. It is fun to fly and definitely tough. It's amazing how far they have come with the technology since I left the hobby. My only complaint with it is the quality of the velcro to attach the battery. Hit too hard and the battery would come out. Even came out during a hand launch, just hanging down. It was an easy fix though. I took 3M Command velcro strip cut it to size and replaced both the velcro in the plane and on the battery. Really enjoy your videos, as they have helped me choose planes to buy to get back in the hobby.
I wanted to say thanks RCSailors for producing these vidios. I ordered mine today have been interested for a long time in the hobby but this will be my first .thanks to y'all. I had a control line cox stuka as a kid was a ER trip waiting to happen . Long before safety regulations
The hobby has come a very long way my friend, even just in the last five years! I'm sure you are in for an absolute treat! It helps us if you order using our provided links, so if you happened to do that, I thank you very much! Happy Flying 👍⚓😎
@@TheRcSaylors I apologize I did not use the link but intend to email them in the morning and will be sure to inform them my purchase was directly influenced by you video. Great video guys! I love that you did this as a team. This will be my next plane!
I think you guys just helped me make up my mind on my first ready to fly. Good video
I’m thinking of getting this for when I’m in training at my local club as I have 2 fully completed kits that I had to make but they aren’t beginner type aircraft and I have one in progress I think this video has told me to get it thank you for making a review in this.
My first plane, and still a favorite. Had a couple good flights today.
thank you for this video packed with great info i cant wait til my cub arrives! me and my lil 9yr old girl will LOVE IT !
you guys make it look very easy!
This plane is awesome!! Flys well in very light winds. This is the 1st rc airplane I purchased.
Thank you for this video...I'm making up my mind on which plane to buy and fly 1st...this is up there...but the P-51 Mustang is up there...the smaller plane has my attention...thank you both and get well soon...
Looks like the ultimate beginner learning tool, just put the rtf version on order a few days ago. Very budget friendly
Excellent first plane. A lot of people are learning to fly on these.
Hi Nate and Abby, This is such a great idea. I had good success with the Champ and then bought this plane and several drones. I have only flown drones for 2 years so l'm still looking forward to my first 4 channel plane.
This plane was the plane that got me started! This was the best! And it worked so well. I still fly this plane indoors today. Highly recommend, you cannot go wrong with this one!
Thank you Nate and Abby for showing how to fly this plane just got mine today .Xcited about flying in.
Thank You for providing such good information that can be used by beginners! I have drones you recommend and look forward to a fixed wing soon
Almost ready to buy my first trainer airplane. You guys are amazing at explaining and comparing products. I’m ordering this tonight and hopefully if all goes well and I take to flying, the Eflite F15 eventually. Thanks
That plane is a ball to fly at dusk in the summer. You can fly it single handed with throttle and rudder freeing up your right hand to hold a beer. :)
You're gonna end up taking your eye out...
@@phapnui ...kid...
Great video! I love this plane! Been flying it for 4 years now. Even after my skills improved, this plane still proved to be fun to fly! Note: I am able to roll this plane in expert mode. I even do Cuban 8's all the time. Not sure why it wouldn't let you do so.....
Great video. I'm interested in getting into the hobby, thanks to my father in law. I was considering this plane. I think I'm going to buy this after seeing this video.
I was big into RC in the mid 1970's, this looks like a good way to get back into it. I also have a Spektrum DX6i that I bought a few years ago to bind with a tiny helicopter so I imagine it would work with the Bind & Fly. The Apprentice Mini BNF might also be a good place to start.
One of my favorite little park planes! Easy to fly like the apprentice!
I use it for target practice as it flys around by its self as I shoot it down. Then call AMA and get the insurance
money
The UMX line from the HobbyZone company absolutely keeps the new pilots planes in a mass to weight ratio that keeps the planes flying, which is the goal.
Timber UMX with flaps or the PT-17 biplane would be great next steps, after that, a high or even midwing, 3-4 ft wingspan plane would be the following step, then a low wing.
Great job on the videos.
Beginner series is well needed, thank you!!
You guys both are awesome. ! Your videos got me flying the carbon cub s+. What a great plane. Keep up the great videos !!!!
The Sport Cub S is the plane that taught me to fly, from that to the Apprentice S+.
You forgot to mention that it is FPV ready, under the sticker on top of the wing, there is a power leed for a micro camera. My favourite plane to fly in the Gym, also outside even in light winds.
Think you should keep to beginner planes for this as it is really helpful, I am a beginner flyer and have took a lot of tips on how to fly from use thank you for your videos
You are very welcome my friend. We just started a beginner series on our channel recently. Might be worth your time to check that out 👍⚓😎
AWESOME beginner plane!! Thanks Saylors for introducing me to better planes!! 💟👍😘
Awesome Nate! Doing videos geared to beginners is awesome!
After watching the video bought one!!!...very pleased several crashes!!! but no damage so far.
You guys are killing it with this beginner rc plane series!
Now I want this one also with the duet!
Getting mine tomorrow!!! Can't wait to fly!
Representing Gulf Coast! Merry Christmas Saylors!
I am extremely impressed with this plane and I have not crashed it yet! The only thing is for some reason I have some cracks in each wing that I have repaired. Perhaps a bit of stress from flight? A great beginner plane but a great stress reliever even for intermediate levels. Thanks for the video......
After I watched the video I ordered one. It will go along nicely with my drone collection. I may be crazy but you only live once and I can’t take my money with me. Happy flying ( A lot of people ordering these they are back ordered as of now
What a great starter plane i have a couple of them and really learned to fly on it other then the brushed motors which dont last them very long if you fly everyday but other then that they are AWESOME planes and tough too. Thanks for the good video
this plane is amazing. it was my first plane and its still my favourite. it flys so well even with a little wind. it can also take a beating. also easy to fix with some ca glue or hot glue. i do recomend getting a better transmitter. i got a spektrum dx6 and it change the flying experience a lot. the range on the rtf transmitter is limited and it will loose signal with the plane which ends up in your plane flying solo and a big walk to find it. with the dx6 this has never been a problem. so aweosme tough easy to fly little plane that is a hell of a lot fun to fly.
It's Great how Nate is like a Giggly child when he's enjoying flying 😊😊lol👍🎉
Try a roll again 😊😊
Another outstanding review by the rcsaylors!! I'm a new Carbon Cub S+ owner, haven't flown in 20 years, and am already considering this for another plane! Please keep them coming -- how about a couple on ARF gas powered planes? I flew Tower Hobbies 40 and 60 trainers for years and see they are now out of business or at least have been gutted. You may already have posted one, I, subscribed and will look for one! Thank You!
Abbey; Thanks for your input at explaining different moves.
Al Ontario
This is the first plane i've been looking for!
Love this video! I got this plane about a month ago, and while watching this I’ve noticed something strange. While in beginner mode, the SAFE doesn’t keep the controls in the correcting position, does what it should be doing in advanced.
I got a champ for my little sister who I’m trying to teach how to fly and when I flew it I could fly it on almost no throttle and the controls are really easy. I highly recommend it and the duet.
I have this plane and absolutely love it flies great very easy to fly
Plane is fantastic. My only recommendation would be to round off the sharp inside corner in the wing at the inboard side of each aileron. The sharp corner allowes the thin foam wing to crack starting at this corner over time from just flying. Just heat up a drill bit and melt through the corner to round it out, this will eliminate the stress that concentrates in the sharp corner and causes the tear. Sharp inside corners are a no no in aircraft sheetmetal for this exact reason. It's the reason that square windows were removed from commercial liners after the Comet (first commercial pressurized cabin jet liner) when the corners at the windows developed cracks and caused several in flight break ups. Every one of these Cubs we've been through (3 or 4) has developed these cracks fairly quickly.
I love mine, but will say to anyone wanting one who is starting out, get the ready to fly version, i got the bind and fly one because i had a good transmitter already, know how to do the setup and all that, to bind this thing you have to open it up by cutting the tape all the way down its fuselage, plus setting all its various flight modes and safe switch can be a bit much for a beginner. Plus as a bonus, when you get more into the hobby and want to step up to BnF RC's you can always bind this to your transmitter later, but you have the one it game with as a backup. I'd recommend a jumper t16 as a radio, it can bind up to most brands, if you guys dont have one, you should get one, just get the + version that has the multi module inside it now instead of in the expansion bay. in fact it would be a great thing to show off when you do binding tutorials
You shouldn’t have to cut the plane apart to bind it. If you just turn the plane on while sitting upright it will go into bind mode after about 5 seconds.
Jumper T16 is a great radio but OPENTX takes a bit to learn. Spektrum radios are much simpler and the instructions are given for how to set up a Spektrum radio for this plane or any other a Horizon plane. Jumper T16 is a great bang for the buck and has come a long way in a short amount of time has 16 channels and the sky is the limit for what it can do. Anyone who doesn’t mind putting the work in go Jumper, if you want a simpler way go Spektrum. I own both.
I have bound mine to 3 different radios. You do not have to cut it open to bind it. Read the instruction book.
I bought this after watching a bunch of your other videos, hoping I used affiliate link right from the other video. Ive flown 3x now and definitely can't land it as good as you lol but I'll get there.
I just bought it :D cant wait to pick it up tomorrow ! My first rc plane
Very cool! And Thank You Very Much if you ordered yours through our link! It means a lot to us and our family. Happy Flying! 👍😁😎⚓
@@TheRcSaylors sorry! I bought it to a retailer right next to my home ... will see that next time :)
I recently bought this as I am a newbie to RC flying😊
Great plane, taught self to fly with this, absorbs mistakes, have some spare props around.
Cool looking sport cub plan. Vary nice stable flight looks easy to control.
I would like to see ya fly your race drones. In the spring I plain to look in to one doing some fpv flying.
Great job filming Nate's flight an your very short flight. Keep it up love ya all.
Love this, decided this is the one for me, thanks guys
Happy Flying Pete!
Awesome footage and informative feedback, thank you!
Awesome video. If I ever decided to get one, this is the one I would get thanks to this video!
Hey y'all I got one and love it. Best beginner every.
Just came across this video....Since I was a kid (back in the 90's) I've always been fascinated with RC planes. There used to be a group of older guys (bout my current age, lol) that used to get together near my house on a vacant street and would fly their model airplanes every weekend together. As a kid, I thought that was the absolute coolest thing ever and would ride my bike over there, just to watch the planes fly. I never dared to ask my parents to buy me one because at least at that time, it was a very expensive hobby, even for beginners and I simply didn't trust myself to not wreck and practically throw away close to $600 of my parents money.
Now as an adult, I've recently started thinking about getting into this and started doing some research and video watching. I had no clue how far the RC Airplane hobby had evolved and you can be all in, in a hobby like this for a measly $140.
Needless to say, you guys have sold me on this beginner plane and I will finally be able to fulfill that childhood dream of mine, THANK YOU!!
I do have a question, about how long will a single charge on that battery last? I think i may buy a few, just to be safe anyway, lol.
Chris L Thanks for the response, man! I’ve continued doing some research actually and have found a plane called the “Mini Apprentice S”. The RTF version goes for $250. While it’s $100 more than the cub, I think it’s a better suited beginner plane for me. It still has all the same features with the “SAFE”, different beginner modes, etc. but in a bigger framed airplane. The reason this matters to me is because I’d like more fly time with the plane to really enjoy it and having to wait for little to no wind would be tough where I live. The bigger frame (slightly heavier) and stronger brushless motor setup would give me more time in the air and the motor would last me longer as well, basically having the plane pay for itself. I’ve done some reading up on it and it seems like an excellent plane to start with and I’ve read that many teachers actually use that very plane to teach newcomers such as myself. So here’s to now being an adult 🍻 and having my own money to spend on a hobby that I feel I’m gonna enjoy the heck out of it!
My brother picked one of these up and it's been great- it's going to take a bunch of practice to fly without the smart features! Flipped it over to two and the thing was immediately upside down haha.
Wow, I never thought about buying a plane but this is very interesting.
Same thing I said 2 months ago, now I’m on my 3rd plane 🥺😂🥺
Great review and info. Long time follower
I am back!! Thanks for this post too 👍👍👍 Yes, This one too🤙👍
I just got mine and its great because how light it is it just bounces off the ground
Yay you finally did it thanks a lot 😀
Thank you for the video. Just gtting in to the hobby and saw this for sale. Seriously considering it (with extra batteries because I want to fly as much as I can without Wife Aggro).
Just ordered one. I've never flown. Wish me luck. Great video! Helped out a lot. Thanks!
And how is it? Thinking about it myself
I LOVE IT. Went out this morning and got 4 flights in! No crashes. It is a blast!
The hobbyzone Super Cub S was my first plane. I prefer a bit larger of a plane to start on, and the Super Cub is only a 3-channel, making it even easier to learn on.
Great video Nate. This stuff is really nice for the new guys:)
And got stickers today! YaY!:D
Hi Guys .... greetings from Devon, England ....I really enjoyed this video and the videos you do but this is especially interesting to me as a beginner fixed wing flyer .... only flown small 120 size hele’s and DJI Mavic Pro and Air drones ....so will buy one of these to try fixed wing ....your detailed explanations are excellent....
Many thanks ......Michael
I started with the champ, and these are great planes. The biggest frustration has been that ANY wind totally takes the plane with it. Also, 20% throttle is all you really need, I started at 80% which is unmanageable, especially for a beginner.
Great video! Very helpful was looking to get the Horizon Hobby 1.2 Spitfire but heard not good for first rc plane. I think this may be it. How much space is needed to fly? No rc air parks close to me, Can I fly in a park or similar? Thanks
Finished my 2nd day of flying with this model, all landings were good! In another couple of weeks I'll be chomping at the bit for a second plane: Apprentice or one of the Timbers? Or something else all together? Thanks for your help and the inspiration!
Keep up the great work, very helpful channel.
Lovely plane...I have the earlier version and repainted it camouflage with roundels so now looks like a hedge hopper ‘Grasshopper’. Cool but mine needs a slightly more powerful battery for the summer.
I have this plane! I absolutely love it!
beutafull plane, beutafull video. i just subscribed. thx sailors looks like im going with this one for my first. cheers.
Well I’m like a kid waiting for Christmas. I recently got back into flying little a coaxial heli, and then ordered no less than four product, including this one. I have a fairly big back yard, I hope you don’t need too much space, at least until I can head to the fields and they’re are many nearby. I also picked up three Blade helis. A 200s fixed pitch to get started on and also an mCP for getting into collective pitch and an indoor Blade 70 S. Ya I went in headfirst but I’ve no doubt Il have a lot of fun based on how much I’ve enjoyed flying the unsteady little coaxials. Any advice as far as the best replacement batteries and multi chargers? Thanks for the video and happy flying to all.
I have the S 2 Version and my nozzle for the propeller came off. Should I be worried because I flew it after and it flew just fine. Oh so to replace the propeller do you have any suggestions?
I just got back into rc airplanes and such, this was the first and only airplane I’ve owned so far. Mine is a bit screwed up from previous flights but, I am planning on flying it again soon. Any Suggestions for a second plane? I am looking at the e-flight v-22 osprey VTOL. I am just not sure if it is suitable for a person going from this plane to that one
Love this plane, just loads of fun!
take out the Electronics
Mini apprentice my first. Great plane
Man I just got the sport cub s. For as small as it is it’s a really great plane in expert mode
