  • Jessica and I are at it again. This time we hike the Ocean to Lake Hiking Trail, a spur trail off the Florida Trail that stretches 61.1 miles between Lake Okeechobee and the Atlantic Ocean and goes through DuPuis WEA, J.W. Corbett WMA, Riverbend Park and Jonathan Dickinson State Park.

    Just was on trail, stopped at the Sunoco, and was very tempted to get a hot dog, banana, and chips. Great vid that inspired my hike. Thanks.

    Great video. Thanks for sharing Chris. My daughter and I are hiking ocean to lake in 3 weeks. My daughter is leaving for an AT thru hike in early April. We are using this hike to help fine tune equipment, food selections, and pack organization

    On my bucket list. Probably this Thanksgiving if Im not in the mountains. Lots of beauty , but lots of crappy road walks and sun. UGH. But the grand finale @ the beach will be worth it.

    Nice to see you guys back and hiking. The dryness of the Ocean to Lake trail in the video surprised me. I had a surprise similar to that last Friday. I took a short drive to Tosohatchee Wildlife Management Area for a day hike. The whole area is really dry. I don't remember ever seeing it this dry in all the years I have been going there.
    A camping trip for me is always a grand success when the Owls sound off during the night. Getting a picture of one ( in the video at 15.36 ) You must of had the same experience.

      +Chuck Littleton Wow. Tosohatchee was under water when I was there last year. Felt lucky to get that owl on video.

    Love JD Park! I bet I've hiked every inch of every trail in it. But it's been a really long time and the OLT trail you hiked didn't even exist back then. Neither did
    Riverbend Park.
    We used to canoe the Lox from Indian town road to the park and always said along the river would make a great place for a hiking trail, looks like it finally happened.
    I solo hiked Corbett once and nearly had a dispute with those wild hogs! LOL

    Chris, we ran into you guys just before, and at, the Loop 4 trail! You guys are FAST! We only made it to Bowman Island on the second day. But we made it up past mile 47 on day three. From there we cut down W. Indiantown Rd to the Atlantic Ocean, completing our hike across Florida; starting in Port Charlotte and ending in Jupiter. I purchased one of those Sawyer Filters as soon as I got back home. Great video!

    I bet it was nice not to walk in swamp water. tee hee. Btw how heavy are your packs? I had this weekend off and hiked from Juniper Springs to Hopkins Prairie. Wow many people on the trail too. Hidden pond camp site was full so my dog and I did some stealth camping on the prairie. It was a great day too with temps in the 50's & 60's. My pack weight is 30lbs so I am always looking to make it 20 lbs. I will probably change out my old big agnes scout tent for something less than 3lbs as well as my pack.

    • @ChrisBerry
      @ChrisBerry  Před 7 lety +1

      Mine was about 14 lbs on this hike (with food and water), Jessica's was about the same.

    Do you need to pay or reserve for those campsites ? Or just get in get out

    • @timrobinson6573
      @timrobinson6573 Před 3 lety

      Yes, you need permits. This is his answer to the same question that someone else asked "+Matt Rudisail I got the Seminole Indian Reservation, St. Marks NWR and Eglin AFB permits ahead of time. I applied for and received the SWFMD camping permits online with my phone the day before I arrived. Thanks for watching.
