The compact Honda e:Ny1 crossover is the brand's first higher volume EV. Jonathan Crouch takes a look.
    Ten Second Review
Honda gets serious about EVs with this e:Ny1, a battery-powered compact crossover for small families. The unassuming looks and modest range and charging figures hide some tech cleverness here - in the cabin and in potential options for charge management. Honda's still a company of innovation. Thank goodness.
    Background
Things are starting to get serious for car makers in the EV revolution. EV models can no longer be range-topping or fashion-orientated curiosities in their model line-up. Tough new UK government fleet emissions regulations mean that EVs must account for at least 22% of manufacturers sales by 2024 (and 80% by 2030). The 2024 target is one Honda needs to hit quickly. Virtually its whole range is electrified, but only one model - the Honda e - is a full-EV, and that sells in tiny numbers. Time to switch up a gear - with this car, the e:Ny1.
It's actually pronounced "e-en-why-one" and it's basically an electric small crossover equivalent to the brand's HR-V full-Hybrid. The two cars are positioned quite differently though and the e:Ny1 sits on its own bespoke 'e:N Architecture F' platform. It's the first of thirty EV models Honda's planning to launch between now and 2030. But is it likely to sell as the brand needs it to?. Let's take a look.

The Renault Zoe has been a wonderfully reliable little car. And the great thing about her is that she’s got CHARACTER!!!!

Fabulously well balanced review, all too often critics are blinded by the price tag which leads to negativity as well as a near write off for the subject matter. My wife made the decision to order an Eny1 based upon the looks and the drive, she dismissed the range shortfall as her daily drive consists of approximately 15 miles max. Yes it is a shame about the heat pump but again, she is the target audience Honda aimed this vehicle at. Interesting point regarding the high cost and one where I fully agree, there are now offers around which reduce the price by around £10k which makes it more competitive. I made the decision to keep my trusty diesel Mercedes for those longer journeys as I am not convinced the charging infrastructure for EV's is as good as it needs to be just now.

Concerning the heating pump, I am not sure if it's worthy to pay much more money for a heating pump that it's not proven that is really as efficient as promised.
I have watched a video on CZcams and there were two identical VW ID4. One with HP and the other one without HP. At the end of the range test, that one with heating pump have had a 4 Km larger range.

Actually I just ordered one lol. Got a VERY good discount on a brand new one. I will home charge 95+% of the time, so the charging speed really isnt a problem to me. Now this is very subjective, but I like the exterior looks, its not too unconventional, but quite stylish. But for me the interior is the winner along with the inclusion of just about every thinkable option included as standard on the Advance model I just ordered. I tried a Kona, not very impressed, I did like the Enjaq but it left me a little uninspired, the Ionic 5 is a better car in many many ways, but I hated the interior, in the CZcams reviews and pictures it did look good, but once sat in it, I really didnt like the space age looks. So I came back to the Honda. If you look hard enough you can get some VERY good deals on a new car like I did :)

£45k for base model than can only do around 250 miles per charge. No chance - this is DOA especially when the Fisker Ocean is £9k cheaper and can go around 360 miles per charge.

The EN:Y1 is the only Honda car that I would choose. It’s a good old Honda Jazz SUV with an electric motor rather than a petrol engine!!

By the way, my current car is a little Renault Zoe, which gives an electric whine between 15 and 30 miles per hour.
