And there's always time later to debate the details of godhead without losing our sense of humanity and grace... Someday I may understand. For now, I temporarily lay aside sectarian pronouncements on the requirements for (the logical knowledge and definition of) salvation. Triune God? I was taught to rather simply take the Bible word-for-word and disreguard everyone else's opinion that contradicted it - and that is the journey I'm on. It's not been a formulaic path - tho that is the contemporary sectarian promise - and there is always the hope of FINDING and DISTILLING greater truth so that it is more accessible & explainable to the mind AND all of scripture. I agreed with all of this, except "Triune God" and even that I agree with in the sense that God is Creator, Sustainer, Redeemer, has a plan, and is active and Omniscient (etc).
But somewhere along the road, in desiring to teach, I found that it was myself that I was teaching & needing to persuade. Why? I thought I knew. I thought I accepted. But how much of that was borrowed arrogance from (admittedly) an arrogant family that remained ignorant about many things (not to mention abusively ignorant). So: I began from a place of accepting the fact of existence and then human existence as it is (not as we wish it would become or who was an ancestor long ago). I was told to accept God with my heart. A task which was vastly complicated by many interfering cultural details from every angle. How do I even begin to approach the Bible with a just-so understanding and remain just-so concerning my faith and trust with everything else in life? Who and How and What to trust?
The historically preserved Scriptures refer to God as our Father, both Universal Creator of the natural and adoptive thru grace and trust in Him, I find that to be for me the most anchoring thing when considering the designs of the universe (it couldn't have been a blind and mindless designer to have descended into something more complex and aware). Then After the inevitable factual and historical knowledge and acceptance of special creation, the second doctrine that Jesus is now alive and remains human. From these bookends, I grow into an understanding of every historical word in and outside of the Bible as originally written and among them the words God In Christ Jesus [' Person] Reconciling The World To Himself. I want my faith to be real. I chose probably a slower path: one of trust, simplicity, humble honest genuine questioning, and wanting to emotionally and properly value the things the Bible instructs, beginning with the Golden Rule of economic exchange and proceeding into Love God & Love Neighbor.
(Loving God is gaining truth, real love, context, strength - and then we may love our neighbor from a position of strength and ability to ACTUALLY DO SO without getting lost or defeated. Because it's never been more complicated in my estimation to actually fight through all the cultural details and simply find God's Consistent Love and stay in that righteousness in all situations.)
It’s always been tough & the early church had it much tougher than we do, especially if we live in the western world
Brooke Ligertwood saw what Carl Lents and Joel Houston were doing (drugs, celebrity worhsip, and abuse of staff and others) and she never called them out but rather benefitted from their profits and fame. She has never publicly disowned what Hillsong did, but has played the victim narcissistically just like the rest of Hillsong leadership. She isn't someone to look to. She has brought upon herself every bad thing that happened to her in the last 2 years and has not been held accountable publicly. She wrote a song called UGLY Betty 10 years ago and it is actually based on women she bullied at Hillsong College. Not my role model.
