    YOOO
It's ridiculously how much dodging to the side instead of backward has improved my game flow

Just want to say that perfect blocks use less stamina than a regular block (also some weapons like katana, odachi, tonfa, etc have an special atack when perfect block that is pretty good vs human)

Timely Guards are awesome. However, they're beyond the scope of basic defense. I will eventually cover them and their timings.

I really struggle with Nioh’s dodge, it feels like the i-frames are so much smaller than the souls series, i feel like i get caught a lot in attacks i dodge, and if i don’t certain enemies magnetize towards you so you can’t avoid them. Still have trouble

What about the dodge in Nioh 2

I'm struggling with the same exact thing. In fact, I don't even think there are i-frames with dodges in low and mid stance. I think only the high stance roll gives i-frames. That's how it's seemed to me. I can't tell if I'm just timing my dodges really badly, or if i-frames actually don't exist for low and mid stance dodges.

@@zowbaid89all dodges have s but the s are all at the beginning of the dodge so the timing is really tight

You shouldn’t try to dodge like in dark souls. The dodge should be used to create or close distance or to get behind your enemy.
If you try to play Nioh like a souls game, you’re gonna have a bad time

@@zowbaid89 All dodges have i-frames. DS3 roll is 12-13 frames @ 30FPS. Nioh 2 high stance roll is 10 frames, mid stance roll after the first dash is 9 frames, mid and low dash is 5 frames, low second consec dash is 4 frames. Very tight windows so you have to use them properly rather than Dark Souls method of "oh hey an attack, press dodge button and now I'm fine." Guy above is right for a lot of cases, but still most attacks can be dodged with even a low dash if you time it properly and dodge in the correct direction. For instance Tate Eboshi has a long sweeping combo string that can be completely dashed through if you dodge against the motion of the attack, so you should generally be doing that if you can't simply get behind the enemy. Opposite of that is Nightmare Bringer, dude has some huge AOE attacks with long active hitboxes so you explicitly want to use high stance dodge. Nioh's attacks require more brain power than Souls, so does it's dodges :)

Legit the only Enemy type I struggle with atm are any snake-like enemy ( Nure-Onna or Yatsu-No-Kami)and Tengu's. Had around 14 deaths before Yatsu-No-Kami, when I eventually finished the fight I had 30

    If you play on Pc.
    Its Something like backstab.
1 They must be out of stamina (Just punch them when they block)
2 When you see red Circle (Lock on will turn red) press Right click on your mouse.
    Profit.

With certain weapons, you can attack while downed but this comes with its own risks. Generally, the safest play is to roll away for those sweet i-frames.

@@PooferLlama I use a switch glaive and whenever I try to dash into an attack, I would face plant onto the enemy and get hit by attacks. I’m not sure if it’s because of choice of weapon as I used to use dual blades in nioh 1 and the dodge mechanics has changed or something 🤣

  • @zowbaid89

Does dodging even have i-frames in this game? I only notice i-frames when rolling in heavy stance, but mid and low stance dodges have no i-frames at all. They're just fast and maybe used for gaining distance instead of actually giving yourself i-frames. Is this the same in Nioh? I'm so used to dodging gives i-frames from Souls games, but it's really jarring coming here and realizing that dodges don't really protect you at all. Is there a skill you can buy that gives i-frames or something? How does dodging work here in this game?

    • @PooferLlama
      @PooferLlama  Před 9 měsíci

      Yes, all dodges have i-frames.
There's also a equipment effect that boost i-frames that becomes available on higher NG+ cycles
