Dollar coins are by far my favorite denomination to search. I get a roll or two every paycheck and go through them before spending the ones I don’t intend to keep. The Walmart self-checkout machines accept them, and the coins are far easier to feed into the machine than dollar bills! Plus, it’s fun to use the dollar coins regularly and get weird reactions from cashiers.
1999 P Susan B. Anthony (SBA) dollars were the first dollar coins produced since the 1981 dollar. Due to a growing demand for small dollar coins in mass transit - banks began running out of these coins for the first time and the US Mint was asked to replenish the supplies of the small dollar coin. Since the US Mint didn't have the authority to change the design - they stuck with the original Susan B. Anthony design until 2000 when the Sacagawea dollar design was authorized for production.
Well worded and informative.
I recall when vending machines started accepting these, only no one carried them around. The Post Office machines gave change in dollar coins.
It was actually the USPS that ordered the 1999 SBA dollars I remember when it happened
Make sure you check the 2000-P Sacagawea dollars for the Cheerio dollar and the wounded eagle error. Also there was a presidential dollar in 2020. George H.W. Bush.
Thanks for the info! Yeah I was confused at first to see that the presidential dollars were not released up through the current presidents. Then I remembered that we do not put living people on currency and it all made sense. I hadn't considered the George H.W. scenario. So much to learn!
Sadly, Jimmy Carter is on his last leg. Since it has to be two years after a president passes away before they can be put on a coin, it will be at least 2025 or 2026 before the James Carter coin comes out.
The George H.W. dollars are the lowest mintage of any of the presidential dollars, only minted in late 2020, and none were intended for circulation, so they'd be a pretty rare find as it would have taken people spending them out of intended for collector rolls.
According to the rules for the series presidents would only be approved to be on the coins once they've been dead for at least 2 years, so there still aren't any for the still living presidents (as of the time I type this: Carter, Clinton, George W. Bush, Obama, Trump, and Biden).
@@QuinsCoins It is a general rule not to put living people on coins, but some exceptions have been made on commemoratives. Most recently Eunice Schriver was put on the Special Olympics commemorative in 1995 when she was still alive.
@@troodon1096 I actually found one yesterday haha. 2020-P GHW Bush. Had 9 NIFCs in 5 rolls. Two under 500,000 minted Innovation dollars too.
You have had lots of great videos with lots of information. BUT you raised the bar with this one. I started my coin collection in 1960 and this was the most, new information condensed in such a short time to date for many collectors.
Thanks for helping teach those of us that are new to collecting. Your explanations are very helpful.
Really enjoyed this hunt. I like the dollar coins. Very informative. Thanks.
There’s quite a few slightly off center skinny/far date rims that appear to be wide/close rims due to the shift but they’re easy to spot because the top looks extra super skinny. Just a heads up.

It's great to see you hunting. Be blessed. My friend.
I search 4,000 dollar coins a week mainly looking for wounded eagles and i have found them! Rb hayes has one of the best die clashes out there and a ddr. A friend of mine in Michigan actually discovered the ddr.
Tip for your next 5 bank hunt, just use the standard brown rubber band instead of painting one black
Long time fan here. I had suggested this a long time ago and I'm glad to see that you have done it now!
This is so awesome! There are a lot of things to look for in dollars
There is also a "Wounded Eagle" error on the 2000 P Sacagawea Dollars. That's a good find as well.
Can't forget about the cheerio. Check the tale of the bird if it's defined there are only 5,000 made.
Congratulations on the finds. Nice informative video.
Wish I had known about the wide rim Susan B. Anthony coins. My dad bought $200/month or as many as he could find. He used to hand them out as tips wherever he went. At his death, he had well over $10,000 in SBA. I wish I could have gone through them for the wide rims. Well, it's good memories anyhow.
Should be talking about and searching cheerio Sacagawea dollars and Sacagawea presidential mules.
On the Susan B. The "1" in date shows closest to the rim causing wide rim rather than seeing only the 9!
Steve
You dont need a scope for the wide rims... they are obvious once you see one.
GA Silver Hunter found a wide rim in his latest video.
The big named banks do not carry old packaged coins, and I was told by a teller, to try local banks. The teller also said that unless you have an account, they might not dispense any coins to you.
if you're insane like me, you can also collect the I/S versions (i have two books) for any coin with text on the edge, the text can be 'inverted' or 'standard', meaning that if you lay the coin down, face-up, the text could be right-side-up or upside down. monetarily/rarity speaking though, there is no difference.
and i think the idea behind the SBA being issued in 1999 was that it was to reintroduce the idea of the small dollar coin. the sacagawea was issued from 2000...
the easiest way to tell a wide-rim SBA is that the gap between the rim and the number '1' in 1979 should about the same as the width of the '1'. i think the first coin was a wide-rim.
also, the 'stars' are on the newer coins. i think only 2007/2008 of the presidents had 'in god we trust' on the rim and the text was separated by 'dots'. thereafter, the dots were changed to stars, and 'in god we trust' was moved to the bottom obverse.
That double die Susan B is dope!, your only real find, but a Great 1!!
There are some VERY valuable 2000P mint errors to look for
What are they?
the 2000P wounded eagle the cheerio dollar aka boldly detailed tailfeathers etc @@jimstand
Congrats on getting the One Wide Rm Susan B. Anthony. Great Find there.
Check lettering on the rim, whether it’s right side up or upside down when looking at the obverse (front). P and D have both up and down
Thanks for another great video!!!
YOU Rock & Rule Quin 😊👍🏻
Today I found a 2020 George H.W Bush NIFC dollar coin and a 2008 P NIFC from a vending machine
Great job on your pronunciation of Wampanoag. Never realized there were so many different dollar coins minted.
Those 79 philly customer rolls were probably someone doing what you're doing 😂...
I've found a 2021-P New York Innovation dollar, 2016-D Reagan, a 2002-P, and 2015-D Mohawk Ironworkers in rolls recently. It does happen, though not often. Not as often as half dollars certainly. I've found a ton of NIFC halves.
That is sweet! Now that I am more familiar with the different dollar coin designs, I will definitely be on the hunt for those Innovation dollars!
I enjoy your program very much. You are extremely well-read in coins. That's obvious. Could you help me and tell me where you do a lot of your research? That would be very helpful, as I am now retired and have found a passion for collecting coins.
I can't stand the fact that the US mint put the date and mint mark on the EDGE! It's going to wear off so fast.
If you do a book fill, wear gloves on both hands. I didnt put mine in a book, just 2x2 flips, because of how sensitive they are. All of mine or MS-65 plus... after making a mistake on my first roll by going gloveless and ruined an entire roll...
this was great and i think you were doing better than average in what you found.
Nice hunt Quin.....
Great to see you.
Just started the video, you may go into details about the position "A" and position "B" regarding the saq. and presidential dollars..
You get alot of weak strikes as well where the P's look like D's but they are likely P's...
That black mark on them old rolls means someone already checked them and they marked it so they don't get those rolls again.
Quinn....quick question? What is the best and fastest way to reroll unvaluable coins to take back to a bank? Or.... do you just bite the bullet and accept the fee and take them to a coinstar? Thanks!
Ihad no idea the American innovation ones were special, I have one, it has the statue of Liberty on it with a bunch of gears on the other side. Only reason I kept it was because I thought the toning was cool.
Great video
There were a few wide rims in there from what I saw under the scope the first round
IM so glade GOD let the mint too make them, and thank you for showing them !!!!!!!!!!!
Pretty sure that '79 SBA that had chunks of metal mudding by the date is called "blanching" (or something like that). I think it has something to do with the die and it's considered an error. Worth more than a dollar!
Can't wait for the next video
1980 and 1999 wide rim coins exist too, you might want to check all the Susan B's...
Make sure you look at the 2000 p Sac dollar for the wounded eagle, in good condition, they sell for $100
I think the bank weighs them for accuracy then marks with pen
Hello Mr Quinn
Just wondering if you checked the 2000 Sacagawea's for the Cheerios dollar and for the wounded eagles 😊
At 19:30, the SBA looks like a defective planchet.
Let's go I love your vids man
Hey quin cool video
Sorry I can't add the time in the video however, in the first roll of personal rolled coins the one with the odd mark on the 9 looks to be a die clash to me.
Compared to others seen I'd say it's a die clash...any thoughts?
I would love information on the Cheerios coin
Hey Quin you said it would be awesome to find a (GREAT LAW OF PEACE) and it happens to be the only one I have got I believe it is a 2018
What does it mean to be "not intended for circulation"? what were they made for and why in circulation?
You need to look for the Cheerios SAC dollars too.
I remember when the Susan Bdollar came out at my bank if you sighed up for the NEW debit card the bank gave you a Susan B coin. That was first for the coin and the first for debit card ha.
Hey dont forget with the Sacagawea 2000 P their is a wounded wing to look out for, which is two arrow like lines that pierce throw the eagle, another thing to look out for is the tail.Cheerios had a year they threw about 10,000 Sacagawea 2000 P coins in their cereal. The difference is in the tail, instead of it being plain lines you look for the tail with a more defined tail.
The cheerio dollar is from 2000 and 5500 were made
@@vadenk4433 right im thinking of something else from 2009 , n i read 10,000 well u learn something new everyday
You're only the 20th person to mention the wounded eagle and the cheerios. Congrats you can't read🤣🤣jk just giving ya shit
Did you check the 2000 Sacajawea for the Cheerio coin or the wounded Eagle?
What model is that scope? Do you like the scope?
don't forget about the cheerios Sacagawea dollar for that you have to look at the eagle's tail feathers it looks like Cheerios
I found a clad sacajawea Weird
Wow! If that is genuine, that is seriously amazing! I just looked into it and it looks like they do exist: auctions.stacksbowers.com/lots/view/3-30D8M/2000-p-sacagawea-dollar-struck-on-an-anthony-dollar-planchet-ms-68-ngc
Could be stamped on the wrong planchet... valuable error
I have a 2009 D saqagawea 1 dollar coin and Im not sure anything about it cause when I look it up theres not much about the specific 1 dollar coin.
Great video. Dollar coins are hard to come by around here.
Newer vending machines that accept up $20 dollar bills always give them as change. I think he touched on that in this vid
I have all president dollar coins, except for Lyndon B. Johnson. I hope I find it by the end of the year.
I ave 2 rolls of 1979 UNCIRCULATED SUSAN B ANTHONY $1 COINS ORIGINAL BANK ROLLS OF $25 FROM THE S MINT should I open them or keep them in the original rolls?
Did you look for the 2000 P cheerio dollar?
The 1979 SB wide rim is pictured in the 2023 red book.
I collected when young, but there are coins minted since I had no idea existed.
Get rid of the penny, that will open up a slot for dollar coins. That will allow the elimination of the dollar bill which will free up a bill slot for the two dollar bill.
The dates of the mag dollar coins are at the 3oclock position fyi
Thank you. I mean that lol
The 1999 Susan B. Anthony dollar coin was minted by necessity. The US Mint produces coins in quantities authorized the the Federal Reserve, which bases its orders on anticipated demand from the commercial banks. The SBA was so unpopular that the original production in 1979 and 1980 were vastly in excess of the demand from the commercial banks, so the Mint's warehouses were overflowing. It took years for the inventory to be depleted. The Federal Reserve was hoping that inventory of the older SBA dollars would last until 2000, but it didn't. Congress authorized the Sacajawea dollar to begin circulation in 2000, so in 1999, the US Mint was not allowed to fill the Federal Reserve's order for more dollar coins using the new Sacajawea. The Mint's only recourse was to produce 1999 SBAs.
Don't forget the cheerio dollars with detailed tail feathers
Big thingt to look for on the sac is the muie and wounded eagle
I have a small collection but I don't know who to send em to for appraisal
I'm trying to find out about a 2 Dollar red Star note from 1953
1979 wide rim Susan Bs only came in a set.
I go to Dunkin’ Donuts every day and I get a lot of common dollars and 50cent coins always an education for the cashiers I’m amazed at how dumbed down public school educations are
Quin, I recommend asking for a special order of a box of Dollar coins. It is $1,000, but I was able ro return all the ones I didn't want. Did this during 2020 lockdown with my credi union and local bank. You may have to wait up to two weeks, but it is well worth it.
How do you special order a box of dollar coins or half dollars from the bank?
@@justinshoats6989 I just ask a teller if I can special order a box of coins. At one point they charged me 10 cents a box, but it was worth it because I was looking for certain coins. Some banks require a business account in order to get coins, but I just have a personal account. I'm also able to return all the coins I no longer want since they have a coin machine right in the lobby for customers to use. I am in Wisconsin.
Just ask the teller
I hope you are looking for Cheerio dollars, errors such as die clashes and rotated dies, etc.
Enough with the cheerios. Only every comment is about them lol
Hello my dear friend!!
Where can i buy that old kind of rolls??
Greetings
That wide rim looks like it has a collar clash
I buy a dollar roll maybe once or twice a month. The last roll had about 7-8 SBA dollars. The only 79P was a EXF/AU wide rim! I Find NFCs on occasion, mainly 20th century presidents and newer Sacajawea. And one 2008S proof .
Do people not expect to find Morgan/Peace/Liberty/Ike dollars in rolls? You didn't even mention them. I'm just getting interested in CRH though so if it's not really a thing, that's good to know
Need to check for the 2000 - P cheerios 😊
You should read a few comments before you post because everyone mentioned those both.
The fact that those rolls degraded so much in 45ish years just goes to show how many of the "vintage coin rolls" for sale online are actually fake.
You should check for the 2009 Sacagawea Cheerios coin which would be major monies
The cheerio dollar is 2000
Jeez everyone can chill on the cheerios...and wounded eagle. Everyone and their grandma has commented about them.
most coin collectors wont even look at scrap clad silver coins .abundance.....!
Far date, near date,or wide and skinny rim?
The Reason they Discontinued the Slug Bug (Susan B. Anthony) is people wrere Mistakenly speding them as they are just Barely larger than a Quarter in Diameter.
I actually have a susan b anthony wide rim they are hard to find i got really lucky
hey is it rare to have 2006 S sacagawea dollar coin
look for the wounded eagle
I have one with Abraham lincoln on it
the marks mean (here anyway) that the roles have been searched through
That 1979-P that mess up May be a lamation error
Found a silver colored 2008-P presidential not plated weighs 8.1gms
Don’t forget to check the 2000-P Sacagawea dollars to make sure that thay are not Cheerio dollars if thay were they’re worth a lot.
Jeez read a few comments before you post. Everyone mentioned them both
