Only if its using Goslings Black Seal Rum otherwise its a rum mule or other variation on the name. But yes, its essentially the same just a change in name due to how the drink was made originally when it was created and trademarked.

It's not "Old Fashioned" if you're using rich simple syrup. You have to have the sugar GRAINS at the bottom, so you get a little dessert at the end of the drink.....
And I shake mine. LOL. So yeah, not exactly a traditionalist myself come to think of it. But I like to get as much dissolved sugar in the shortest time without using a blender or boiling sugar or whatnot.

Well you're supposed to muddle the sugar until its dissolved, so using simple syrup is just as good. There isn't supposed to be any sugar left in the bottom.
