  • Explaining how Loki drew me into this path and the major misconceptions that most Norse Pagans tend to have about him and his family.
    Loki has taught me many life lessons and helped me through some of the darkest times in my life, and I think it's a shame that many refuse to give him the honor that is due. Hopefully, this explains some of my thoughts, and if you have any questions let me know down below!

      That's my thought too. I feel like when Christianity took over these views were added to the original Norse ideology by the Christian writers who transcribed many of the stories we have now. So today when people convert to following the Norse Gods, especially if they were previously Christian, this mindset is already in place keeping these misconceptions alive.

      @@NashNoLastName I agree. Same thing happened with Morgan Le Fay when the Christians re-wrote the old Arthurian stories - and she ended up as the wicked witch in Disney's version (Sword in the Stone). As with Loki, total misconception of her nature and role. Fascinating video - and I love the sense of humour.

      A lot of the Norse Paganism Practices Including The Sagas were possibly written by Christian Scholars during the Reformation Period
      even Stephen Flowers Arith Häger and a few others have said the same thing a lot of people are practicing it wrong because of the very fact that it very well may have been learned only oraly and alot of that is lost to time

      I like that you mentioned that the demonization of Loki is likely due to Christian influence. I've always suspected that. I also feel like Loki is kind of the "patron saint" of the underdog. He kind of checks the privilege of the Aesir and Vanir gods and goddesses, which is good because they kind of just appointed themselves as the best of the best, which is pretty arrogant. ;)

      WHO ELSE WOULD THEY CHOOSE!! I mean no offense Loki, but like the only other person i can think off the top of my head is Thor, whos thing is getting drunk, and hitting stuff really hard. Which doesn't measure much up to "the guy who started the end of the world" if you put it in perspective Odin had a bad reaction to a nightmare and threw his neice into the afterlife, his nephew in the sea, and his other nephew in chains. And Loki was like i will kill your CHILD for this. And he did. And it caused the end of the world.

    I’m a devotee to Loki
    I invited him when i was going through some turmoil caused by myself ...oops. Loki asked for my story about it and laughed and told me that none of us are perfect and I’m allowed to accept my recklessness and have fun with it but he pointed out your responsible for it which I found helpful and learnt how to accept and live with it rather than just punishing myself for mistakes. Really liked your video I definitely have the same view and thoughts on Loki as you do! 🌙

    You're absolutely right. It's Christian influence. If we took Loki out of the stories it would be pathetically boring. Odin wouldn't travel between realms. Thor would never battle the midgard serpent. We'd never get to imagine Thor dressing up like a chic! Nobody would ever grow and the gods would be stagnant. Loki is the initiator of growth and change. In some mythologies, like certain native American people, the trickster (Coyote) is also the creator god. And I don't think Ragnarok is an event in history anymore than I think Valhalla is a beer/ fighting fest in the afterlife.

    • @krispalermo8133
      @krispalermo8133 Před 3 lety +4

      So sorry, you like most people had read the error regarding Norse warriors' Heaven. Valhalla was just the name of the drinking long house of those who died in battle went to hang out after they got their choirs done around their fore fathers house/ hall. Valhalla wasn't heaven, it was just the officers drink club that was located in Asgard. Also Asgard was more written as a portside trade city. Found that out when I was ten years old back in 1987. When I pointed that out to the Southern Baptist Church cult my mom drag us children to, I was .. told .. by the Sunday school teachers that I should spend more time studying the Bible than reading up on Catholic pagan translations to contradict your elders.

    • @forestdaydreams9447

      Ok so if I assault my adopted aunt , spread lies about my relatives infidelity to try and break up their marriage, murder my nephew , create a bunch of monsters to kill my family and mutilate my other nephews pets , that’s just me ‘stopping them becoming boring’?
      Come off it . That’s toxic , abusive and cruel at best. He’s not some renegade figure who spices things up , he’s an abusive POS who is currently chained in the underworld for his crimes.
      Life isn’t a video game or to show. In real life , “ spicing things up “ by making people suffer and die is sadistic. Thor dies fighting the serpent to save us all from horrific deaths that Loki would have caused. Odin wanders the earth trying to find ways to save his children from brutal deaths brought about my Lokis machinations. That’s not fun - it’s torture .

    I was always drawn to mythology as a child and I will admit that marvel brought me to Norse Mythology, and of course my favorite character is Loki, but I'm really grateful that you mentioned this argument because people do tend to make me (and surely others) feel weird or bad, like I'm just an extreme case of a fan girl to where its turned my mind, when really I believe that marvel is how I was lead to Norse Paganism, and I find real joy in that. So thank you, also if you haven't read The Gospel of Loki by Joanne Harris, I highly recommend it, I think you'd appreciate it.

      I definitely think that marvel is a valid way of entering into Norse Paganism, especially since the MCU is such a huge thing. Plus, I feel like Loki is enjoying the increased attention that comes from Marvel's incarnation of him. I also know a lot of pagans who use Hiddleston's likeness to represent Loki, which I believe is valid because he is a shapeshifter so who can really say what he's "supposed" to look like.
      I've also been meaning to read the Gospel of Loki for sooo long, I just haven't had time to get around to it. -_- Hopefully soon!

I did more research a few years later, and I just felt this connection. I read every book, watched a lot of videos, and I got a necklace and runestones. Then I learned more about Loki, and I read a book on kindle unlimited and it was an alternate take on the gods in the eyes of Loki. I just felt it. My dad always says: If it looks good, you'll see it. If it sounds good, you'll hear it. If it is truly good, you'll feel it.

    The most valid idea I've seen for not working with Loki is the idea that he's known for getting you what you want coupled with a butt ton of unnecessary hurdles. That being said, I personally believe that whether I feel like asking him for help with certain things or not, based off what I know of him from the stories and my experiences, there's a lot that you can learn from him. In my opinion a lot of the people who refuse to acknowledge what Loki can offer are living in a lot of fear without nuance. The "underworld" deities in Norse Mythology all represent the scary shit in life that arguably needs working with more than the comfortable stuff.

    I appreciate this video very much! I began hearing Loki's call a month ago and am at the very beginning of the journey of learning the things he wants to teach me. Much of the work thus far is revolved around being honest with myself--and usually people think of that as acknowledging their faults, which is true...but what gets overlooked is that this is also an honest assessment of our virtues. Loki isn't one for false modesty--at least not so far with me--and has emphasized learning to recognize the nature of what something is. That means fully accepting that the good is good as well as dealing with faults and weaknesses.
    If people only knew how tender and understanding he can be when you're willing to look in that mirror of your character, history, and beliefs and do the work! I've made myself be open--as open as I currently know how to be--and the result is that he shows patience and is willing to provide guidance. If I was stubborn and resisted the process, I think he'd become more firm. But cooperation comes with benefits! We choose how this god deals with us.
    Thank you for being willing to discuss this!

Another type of offering I’ve done as well was shadow work, which is pretty much staring your demons in the face and saying, “hey demons, it’s me...your boy”, and learning how to integrate it in your life for more personal balance. If you need to speak up, then you should as loki did when he called out the gods and was "punish" for it, but he was right to do so. If you are stuck in your ways, then you should change and accept the responsibly.
    Loki is both the love of others to see where they can be and the love of changing oneself.

Also appeared as Hermès I believe and ive drawn horned gods symbols and symbols I believe associated with Loki and hermes. I had been asking about trickster spirits and what their intentions are working with me. In your experience working with Loki, what are the vibes you get with him? Is he there for your best intentions or there to cause mischief and pain and suffering to feed off of this? I was told to have him come back later when I’m ready to work with him, but it seems he may believe I am ready and was hurt when I wanted to turn him away. I have been exploring my spiritual/witchy path for about a year and a half, almost two and while I am interested in understanding Gods/Goddesses I know I am waaaaaay to unexperienced for it so for the record, i will wait. But I have a question, and I know it may sound soooo fkn weird and even a bit cringe but I was wondering, do the Norse Gods (Thor, Loki, Odin, etc) do they have anything against or did they present any resentment or anger towards what Marvel did with their portraits in their movies? Like, do they feel dissrespected by it or are they humble about it? Just pure curiosity! (Sorry if this question is offensive or dissrespectful even towards you in any way)

    • @NashNoLastName
      @NashNoLastName  Před 3 lety +5

      That is totally not a weird question! It's one that many people ask! Personally I think the Gods welcome the representation as it has a change to pique people's interest and possibly draw them towards the Norse pantheon. I know a lot of heathens who started out after having either seen the movies or read the comics and that's completely valid! I think anything that helps keep their names alive is a good thing, and there definitely has been a resurgence of interest in the Norse lately, most notably in video games like God of War and now Assassin's Creed, both of which I love to pieces. I'm also a huge geek and have seen every MCU movie so far. 😂 I think that while some people may complain about them not being "accurate", it's ultimately a good thing. And, I mean, we have a story about Thor dressing as Freyja in wedding garb to get his hammer back, I think the gods know how to take a joke. 😁
      Thank you so much for watching, and thank you for this question. Best of luck on your journey! 🧡

    Hi there. Informative video :) I too have felt a connection with Loki and the energy he brings, but at times it can be a hard thing to face, as it brings about change that not a lot of people are comfortable with. For years and to this day, I have always felt called to and work with Thor. Not exactly primarily, but most of my focus is on Thor. I am more wondering if I would displease Thor or the Aesir and Vanir I honor if I accepted Loki as well. I truly believe things are not so black and white for Loki to be "evil" and Thor or Odin to be the "pure" ones. Humans are much the same. I simply seek Loki currently to better understand that side of myself that resonates with him as other aspects of me resonate with Thor and Odin. Thoughts on this?

    • @NashNoLastName
      @NashNoLastName  Před 4 lety +5

      Hey thanks for watching!
      You can absolutely work with Loki and the other Aesir and Vanir. Nothing is black and while when it comes to the Norse pantheon and none of the gods would be displeased if you included Loki. In fact Loki was often a frequent companion to Thor in his travels, as well as being the blood brother to Odin. Even in the Lokasenna Loki states that Odin swore to never accept a drink unless it was offered to both him and Loki.
      Loki isn't evil, nor are any of the other Aesir 'pure', I believe those connotations came from Christian interpretations mainly. Overall, all the gods have flaws and that's what makes them relatable to us as humans. They each have their own purposes, but none are the epitome of purity. (With possibly the exception of Baldr lol)
      I work with Loki primarily but I too was drawn to Thor and Odin, and as such included them in my practices. There's no right or wrong way to go about it, and if you feel drawn to a god you should absolutely follow your instincts.
      I hope this helps! Thanks again for watching!

    But as I continued on, he practically smacked me upside the head to get me to understand he’s so much more than what he’s seen in modern day. I’ve learned to form almost a personal relationship with Loki. He treats me in a similar way my older siblings did growing up. I primarily use Shufflemancy to communicate, and I’ll be using it at like 11:00 at night and he’ll send me the song Sweet Dreams, as if to tell me to go the hell to sleep. I actually didn't have a deity until yesterday, and surprising to me, it was Loki (I genuinely didn't think he'd pop up for me). I was just vibing and practicing using my pendulum, doing a protection spell just in case (I just like having the extra protection as I tend to attract a lot of energetic beings without meaning to). Suddenly my heart started to race and my lights flickered, so I quickly looked around and when I peeked back at my pendulum (which is metal and reflects everything clearly) showed someone with red hair. I, once again, turned back and randomly thought "Loki?" and he made the lights flicker again as my pendulum just started going "yes, yes yes yes yes yes yes!"... Then it ended... And that was that (so far).
    Then again... Some deity had been messing with me for about a week and thinking back, I think it was him just messing around even though it was stuff that really messed with my scheduling (or just my balance). Loki, my man, just loves pulling pranks on me or something.

    I have a question, and it's something I've always wanted to know, how accurate are Manowar's songs about the Norse gods and what is your reaction to hearing them?

      I actually really love Manowar and while they may not be 100% accurate they're great to rock out to. Eric Adams has a killer voice and it really suits the material. Loki God of Fire, Sleipnir, Sons of Odin, Thor the Powerhead, and Gods of War are some of my faves.

    since i first heard of norse mythology i've been drawn to it, same with greek mythology.
    i suspect that im going to be working with Loki and Hades soon (also planning on mother nature goddess and possibly the horned god), the MCU definitely brought my attention to Loki more since i had movies to watch a snarky little guy thats actually a god, but i always knew they didnt portray him properly, so i did more research and im still researching as much as i can.
    my perception of Loki is that he is a shapeshifter and appears to me like a mix of hiddleston and a ginger-haired almost "demonic" looking entity (there's a really cool cosplayer tiktoker who cosplayed norse loki as ginger haired with rune makeup and horns, braids etc. which looks pretty similar)

    Thank you for this insight. I often pondered why some modern Asatru still worship Loki despite being the gods’ enemy who leads the army of Ragnarok. This has been very insightful.

    Can anyone share the configuration of Loki? I am unable to get it started.

    As far as Ragnarok goes, here's my 2 cents. A lot of ancient spirituality followed cycles: seasons, moon phases and so on. There has been an observable pattern through out history about every 100 years that repeats a cycle of peace, prosperity, struggle and war. In my opinion, this is Ragnarok. It's a cycle. Loki is a force of change, of progress, shaking up the status quo so we don't become stagnant. Throughout the mythology, wherever Loki is, the situation usually resolves better than it started because of Loki. Now go look at every large war and the advancements we've made as a society after it.

      I don't think witches are real because the Catholic church use to torture people to get false confessions and you have to use your imagination for it to work which means they're imagining the whole thing
