I collect very small cockles at the beach and use them to make earrings. So far my method to drill a hole has been a tiny round and pointed file from a set that I bought in a crafts shop. As with the scissors you need a lot of patience and work slowly, but so far I never broke a shell. Going to try your method, though
Can you explain more..how you hole your shells? I didn't understand..this method isn't working for me, my shell is very hard. Maybe your method will help me.
This post is old. But try a electic manicure set there's a pointy drill bit use to make hold but careful. It worked great for me. I think its safer than knife.
Thank you so much this is the exact video I needed and at the exact time I needed it!!! I'm making seashell mobiles for. Christmas presents but did not have a drill. Merry Christmas!!! 🎄🌟💫
It needs to be said that the technique you displayed is literally drilling, and kinda also reminds me of an awl. I understand the comfort of doing crafts under the control and power of your own hands, but i do worry about someone's Japanese or German textile scissors being used for this 😅 That said, you should know that a rotary tool is cheaper AND more effective when compared to a power drill. Dremel is the industry standard for rotary tools, and they average about $40 USD. Harbor Freight carries a generic one for $10, and both include a few dozen cutting, drilling, and polishing tools. As an investment, the price is comparable to those scissors.
@@cmbergersct3492 if you cut off a fork tine with a cutoff disk and chucked it point-first into a Dremel... it would be a more appropriate drill bit than a pair of scissors. Get out of here with that.
If they are closed they may have something inside that might start to smell. If they are empty inside, you can try this technique to make a hole and string them! Or wire wrap them. Did you see my other video for wire wrapping shells? czcams.com/video/ZZaGB1IkWro/video.html
Just to let anyone know you can also use a compass if you don’t have sharp scissors 😅❤
Thank you. So simple, I’ve been saving my shells for a special project I’ll have to give at least one a try. I found this on Pinterest.
Glad you enjoyed it! Shells in jewellery are so beautiful! Natures pretties 🤩🌼

I turned my scissors like that 700 times to get through a mussel shell. It took between 5 and 10 minutes I think.

My seashell is so freaking hard, it's not breaking Lmao
Oh no! Try sharper scissors, they must have a point on them, not rounded ones ✂️
@@creativefnk Thank you but I already broke my shell😵💫😐
It's because it likes you a lot.

Thank you so much for this and the other video about how to string the seashell, too! Both are very helpful, and you are an outstanding instructor.

Yes but not every drill bit is appropriate. Do you know which ones to use?

Awesome but it's way to slow for me. Some shells I want to use is much harder
You are drilling but bery slowly
Genius! How did you come up with this idea?
Haha it’s good isn’t it!! Been doing it this way since I was a kid 🌻
@@creativefnk It blesses me. Thanks.
It's not the easiest way tho but thanks for sharing with us!🕊 I might try this soon🤍🕊
Yes there are a few other ways as well! Glad you found it helpful 🌻💫
Would this work for stones/crystals?
Not really as they are a lot harder than shells. I think you will need to drill crystals or rocks under water. Thanks for watching 🌼
Can you link the scissors I don't have it please and can I use knife 🔪
i want to make 2 holes is this a risk??
It is a bit more risky, yes, but I do it! Should be fine if you pick a safe spot and go gently. Good luck 🤞
Does this work for barnacles to?
I think it would! Let me know if you try it 👍
I found closed sea shells and I want to make them into necklaces

@@creativefnk I haven’t opened them all the way through but they are all empty I’ll be sure to watch your linked video to learn more! :)
What about my good pair of scissors?😢
My shell has a hoke now just like my nail lmao
