Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has revealed that a huge debt burden was left behind for his administration to settle with several contractors who handled different projects for the immediate past administration. Governor Fubara made the revelation at Ebubu community, the venue of the inauguration of the reconstructed 10.89KM Aleto-Ogale-Ebubu-Eteo Road in Eleme Local Government Area, Rivers State, on Tuesday.
The 10.98km Aleto-Ogale-Ebubu-Eteo road, which will be commissioned in a couple of minutes, was awarded to CCEC on August 14th, 2023, and completed in 8 months. #1yearofsimfubara

Governor Fubara, I have always commended your sense of judgement but your perusal for the previous administration to be investigated in which you served as the Accountant General of the state is ridiculous in the sense that the investigators will be questioning you as the number 2 person that had access to the State treasury. This makes it not tenable for you to be the one to set up the panel of investigation. As the Accountant General of the States who must have been involved in all the projects that were completed in the State you are answerable to the all the debts running into billions that you found. People wondered how Wike was able to complete all the projects during his time and where the money came from. As the Accountant General of the State, you should know. While accountability is always mandatory in all governments across the world, it seems funning that the person who was at heart of the government spending is now the one crying foul. I have commented that this investigative move may not be appropriate at this time when there are crisis in the state and every Nigerian will believe that the Governor is just trying to get back at Wike. At what point did he realize that the State was heavily indebted when it is going to one year now since he has been in office. I hope the Governor Fubara will not shot himself on his foot with this investigation because he was the Accountant General of the State in Wike's administration. I have cautioned he should be very careful about what advice he acts on. It is dangerous for him to point any misappropriation of funds and invoices not recorded properly, therefore he is prosecutor and a defendant in this case if the truth is to be uncovered.
