Game description:
Barbie assumes the role of Princess Rose in the classic fairy tale of Sleeping Beauty. When Princess Rose is born, a number of benevolent fairies arrive to bless the child with a bounty of gifts. A wicked fairy, feeling slighted because she wasn't invited, crashes the birthday party and places a curse on the child -- if she pricks her finger on a sewing spindle during her first 15 years, she will fall into a deep slumber for 100 years. Another fairy is able to mitigate this curse with the stipulation that a prince's kiss will wake her in such an eventuality.
The game consists of a series of activities that can either be played at random or in order according to the main storyline. Princess Rose wakes up her woodland friends and invites them to her 16th birthday party, makes a dress and crown, plays hide and seek with the fairies, but then gets tricked by the evil fairy into pricking her finger on a sewing spindle and taking a long nap. At that point, the fairies have to put everyone in the castle to sleep while they work on the problem. Then they recruit a prince who must chop through a maze of thorn brush in order to reach the castle and give the princess a smooch. Princess Rose must then battle the wicked fairy in order to retrieve the magic flute. - Hry
So apparently Matel wanted to do Barbie as Sleeping Beauty as a ballet movie, like how they did with the other Tchaikovsky ballets Swan Lake and Nutcracker. However despite the music score (by Tchaikovsky) and the original story (by the Grimm Brothers) being in the Public Domain, Disney had copywritten the name Princess Aurora and sued them. So this game is all we got. After that Matel stopped doing classic fairy tales and made up there own stories for their movies. Strangely enough Disney would later do both the stories of The Nutcracker (and the four realms) and Rapunzel (Tangled). They stole several things from the Barbie version when they did Tangled, Rapunzel being a lost princess, having a reptilian friend, a pink and purple dress, being blond, and painting as a hobby, as well as having a brown haired love interest who wears a blue vest. Disney sure can dish out the law suits but they sure cant take them.

It’s kinda sad that we might never get that incredible movie but I wish they could give Sleeping Beauty a different name just like how they give the Prince from Barbie of Swan Lake a different name.
This is what I've been thinking and concerned about. Disney is such a mean jerk.
They seem to rule the entertainment industry and that's why it's so unfair.
It turns me mad when I see "Tangled" and "Nutcracker and the Four Realms".
I think Mattel could make an adaptation of "Sleeping Beauty" as a Ballet movie, so it's more emphasized on the dance. Mattel could give the princess a different name such as Rose, Dawn, Dawnrose, Sunrose or maybe Solarose. Plus, to make a difference, they could give seven good fairies to christen her and one evil fairy to curse her. The evil fairy could be named Carabosse (like in the Ballet) or maybe Nightshade (like a poisonous plant).
Holy shit. The MEMORIES. I used to spend hours exploring the castle and designing the dress and crown.

I loved playing this game when I was a kid. Changing the color of the dress and customizing the crown was my favorite part. Only the maze part scared me because when the fairy suddenly says "The path is getting clearer, keep going" I thought that if I didn't get the prince to the castle fast enough, like in Disney's Sleeping Beauty, a dragon would come out and attack the prince.
Be thankful there are no dragons in this computer game
Barbie does look beautiful in blue, but I prefer red or pink.
I would spend HOURS on this game OMG!!! I loved designing the dress and crown. The thorn maze was really fun too.

oh my god talk about nostalgia!! I remember playing this in my family's "computer room" on an old chunky PC. I can't believe how much i'm now recalling. I still have the same outfit/crown choices as before lol

I loved this game as a child and would play it nonstop. Hard to believe that I am now a adult. When my niece gets a little older, I want to share with her my favorite childhood game.
I used to play this a lot when I was little. I had, "When she's 15, a spindle sharp will make her sleep and break your hearts. 100 Years of dreamless sleep is the promise I will keep!" memorized all these years, lol. I'm amazed it sounds exactly as I remembered it in my head.
On another note, the Princess and Prince flirting after he saves the bunny is just hilarious to me XD

I totally forgot this was a barbie game. I was searching for "fantasy cd game for girls" which didn't help until I finally added in "barbie* 😂 I remember the music, spending so long customizing and exploring. These days, games have deep exploration and deeper customization, and I realize that games like these opened those doors for a lot of people! She walked so we could run! Seriously though, this brought me to tears.

Its just my personal headcannon but since unofficially the barbie cinematic universe already exists, I always like to think the fairies gifting Rose are the guardians of fairytopia, and the uninvited fairy is Laverna haha. I mean both laverna and the wicked fairy have the same color scheme.

I wonder what happened to the evil fairy after she turned into a butterfly and gave the flute back to Rose? Did she get reformed and became good? Is that why she turned into a butterfly to show that she wasn't much of a bad person at all? Well, I always see butterflies as innocent insects and seeing an evil character turning into a butterfly was strange to me, but I would prefer her to turn into either a spider, a hornet or a praying mantis because I think they matches her better, but I'm still okay with her turning into butterfly.
I think her turning into a butterfly is a metaphor for moving from one personality (evil) to another (good). As if her soul was purified.

I used to design the crown for ages on our boxy computer then print it. I’d get so angry because it kept coming out black and white and I couldn’t understand why when I’d spent so long colour coordinating (our printer didn’t print in colour).
