Can't wait to play this version of the No VR mod. The other one is playable but only barely. Definitely nowhere near as sophisticated and polished as this looks.
I tried playing the other mod and it wouldn't let me upgrade my pistol, so I stopped playing there. I figured I was just gonna wait until this one was finished because the other was very rough and bare bones while this one looks quite polished.
dude just buy meta quest 2 and play it natively, it's only 200$

Hmm, maybe add a dedicated gravity glove grab button when you're holding a weapon that can be one handed? Like a quick-grab function that lets you get items closer to you without having to switch to the gravity gloves. Would come pretty handy during heated combat situations.
Yeah I feel like that's a pretty core part of the gameplay, using your left hand to grab stuff and your right to use a gun/multitool
This was the first thing I thought about when I watched the video. I wanted to write a comment, but saw yours first. :)
For the melee attack Alyx should pull out her socket wrench. In most of the HL2 promotional art painted by Dhabih Eng, Alyx is seen holding a socket wrench juxtaposed with Gordon with his crowbar. Alyx is only seen with the wrench in the games fixing a machine in Black Mesa East. But she still has multiple sockets of multiple sizes on her utility belt.
So basically similar to how Atomic Heart and Bioshock 2 did it?
Animations and general feel look incredible. Amazing work. Can't wait to play it. Glad to see you intend to release this and it wasn't just a because-you-can experiment.
forgive if im wrong, i like how u try your best to show new things you put into the game at the begining of the game so is to not spoil the game to those who wants to play your mod for the first time or the game for the first time in general

а там вроде бы если не ошибаюсь и если у него есть дс сервер, там есть HLAlyx launcher, который вроде пускает без вр поиграть

Mega impressive work! Its not a criticism, it's a sugestion :) sphere puzzle maybe it can be done like you control one of the hacking thing using WASD movement to join it to other hacking thing? :) I cant emagine how hard to do it so its just my offer to that puzzle. Your varint is good to cuz you dont change the interaction to that puzzle. Great work we all can't wait to play it!!!

Going Penumbra mixed with HL2 style controls is actually really smart to get around most of the VR motion control requirements. Feels very natural.

First, thank you for taking the time to create the mod and open it up to everyone. I've only just learned about this mod, and if I'm repeating a known feature, or already known request people forgive me. Would it be possible to remove all headbob and movement related with it? Headbobbing causes horrible motion sickness for me, which is why I've never been able to enjoy VR. Either way, thank you again for using your valuable time and creating this for the community.
awesome update, loved the hand animations you've added, and the door interacting mechanic looks very sleek. Hopefully the release is in sight!

As someone who has enjoyed the game several times already in VR, I think you're doing a fantastic job in creating a very faithful non-VR experience for the many who haven't had the joy of experiencing this awesome title yet! It's looking seriously polished now too! I'm loving the animations and puzzle implementations, and can't wait to try the finished product!

Yet having to switch to the glove to use it seems a little not convenient though. Is it possible to make it so you can use the gravity gloves when holding a gun, and have hand animation like that addon in Gmod called Vmanip? That would be a really good addtion in my opinion.

Hi. Can you do enemies more formidable? Because Half Life Alyx was created for vr cripplers and enemies here are easy to kill.

Imagine how great Half-Life: Alyx could've been had the VR aspect been optional.
The game is still good, it’s just a problem of accessibility. But I agree that it would’ve been way cooler to get this game, but with classic Half-Life style fps gameplay.
It’d blow a lot of the other games that came out that year out of the water, especially if they added in more elements and mechanics to improve it. Almost like Half-Life’s equivalent to Doom Eternal, or the new Wolfenstein games.
There are lots of soyboys on the internet defending this barely accessible VR crap like hell. Like, we get that you're rich, keep that shit to yourself. Why would I spend a thousand dollars on a useless tech to play one game only?
The game is balanced for VR, the difficulty doesn't translate well at all to flatscreen with keyboard and mouse. I say this as someone who beat the game in VR and then the other noVR mod.
@@CrAzYpotpie I see this argument pop up a lot. Development wasn't set in stone. A little forethought goes a long way, especially in early development.
All it would have taken was one guy in that early stage to say "maybe we SHOULDN'T make this an exclusive for VR, and instead make something that satisfies the needs of both VR and PC players, consequently ushering in a new golden age for the Source 2 engine!"
But alas, Valve ain't even close to what it used to be. Their internal model means half-baked ideas and experiments get pushed out the door while the shit that everyone wants gets put into development hell.
Gabe Newell once said "Late is just for a little while, suck is forever", but what is "a little while" for those that die waiting?
@@yosefsantoni599 You seem confused. "Development wasn't set in stone?" The VR aspect of it was the main focus the entirety of this games development period. Balancing games for VR and flat screen is incredibly difficult, not to mention a load more work. The only way that would ever come close to working is altering a bunch of game logic to increase difficulty on all relevant aspects that are easier to handle using a mouse and keyboard when compared to VR. Now, lets focus on the environments. They are made to be much smaller than traditional Half-Life games, being packed to the brim with detail that the game expects you to be face up to, as well as moving much slower. In this early VR title, that works out great, it is fun to hold things at different angles in front of yourself to waste time per map load. Flat screen barely translates in the same way.
I don't know what else to say other than you make it sound a lot easier than the actuality of it. I have been a developer on multiple VR projects, and to make an action game with difficulty that would work well in both VR and flat is a monumental task as opposed to focusing on just one style. Valve's goal was to make a triple A VR Half-Life experience and they passed it with flying colors. Have you played it in VR yet? Also, "for those that die waiting?" What? Are you blaming Valve for not pushing out substandard Half-Life material, as if that would please someone on their deathbed as opposed to speeding up the process? What a weird argument.

Esto se ve genial! Pero, me gustaría sugerir algunas cosas:
-Tal vez añadir animaciones para recoger ciertos objetos. Podrías hacer que haya una animación asociada a recoger ciertos objetos como municiones, viales de salud, resina, etc. Daría esa sensación de que estás controlando a Alyx como en VR. Y por ejemplo, podrías hacer que cosas como las baterías permanezcan en la mano izquierda de Alyx mientras la derecha sujeta el arma.
-Alguien ya sugirió esto, pero estaría bien tener un botón dedicado para poder atraer cosas con la mano izquierda, sin tener que cambiar a los guantes constantemente. Podrías combinar esto con la sugerencia anterior y deshabilitar esta acción, por que la mano izquierda estaría ocupada.
-Una vez que el mod este acabado, tal vez se podría añadir un arma cuerpo a cuerpo, como la que hay en el arte promocional de HL2, como un addon opcional.
IDK about a melee weapon, but I think you can melee bash with your guns in this like in Halo and Left 4 Dead.

Are the camera locked interactions toggleable? I really liked the dragging interaction. Also will there be an fov slider?
Stellar work! Don't know how difficult it would be to implement, but I suggest that the sliding/rotating interaction with certain items would also slightly move your camera in the same direction as your mouse movement.
The movements and animations seem to be improving significantly.
I'm looking forward to this mod, it certainly looks very good, I hope it's released soon.

Thank you for making this mod. I am a huge fan of Half-Life. Sadly I can't get a proper VR setup (Even thought I can just buy them but my room was too tight) This mod can actually help me to play Half-Life Alyx without VR. You fulfilled my dream!

Looking real good so far. The movement, puzzles, and the overall gameplay is nicdly adapting to the traditional experience. There already is a NoVR mod, but frankly this one looks more polished and carefully crafted. Can't wait, and its status being "Very Playable" at this time only makes it more promising.

Nice progress. Shouldn't there be an animation where Alyx puts her hand on the health station when she is getting healed?
I think that got discarded. Would love to know if that's the case or not.
Now we just need an FoV slider from 75-100 Horizontal!
The only NoVR mod that's worth checking out.
when u reload the health from the health station on the vr version u lay the left hand(glove) on that station, so there need some fix in the upcoming updates

(Adding camera locked interactions) I kind of liked when camera was moving together with mouse when you were opening stuff. Can you bring that back it feels more natural than camera freezing in place. Soma and Amnesia had camera moving together with mouse movement which made interaction more fluid.

Man this is looking outstanding. I finished the game couple months ago with my VR and it was amazing and shit but if you stand too long your legs start to hurt and your arms too... bad thing about VR. I hope to play again with this mod

Good progress! Would be nice if there was a button to use the gloves with weapon out. Also it would have helped with immersion if HUD was only visible if you reload or press a button to check your health.
